Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

Hello all, am still using Saxenda as I wait for my health insurance to approve Wegovy.

I am a little concerned as I went to the highest dose of Saxenda and my appetite came back! I actually put in half a kilos and I was so disappointed. So, I went back down to 1.8,

So I am a little concerned about moving over to Wegovy, as I don't think I can choose the doses as simply. Am I correct in thinking that?

Has anyone found that the higher doses were not as effective? I have seen many posts about this for Saxenda, but am only just starting to read up on Wegovy...

Thank you

LeafUsAlone · 05/06/2024 18:49

Well done @VelociraptorsVelociRapping, what a nice feeling! I cant wait for the days when I dont have to worry about fitting in chairs with arms, or between the chairs in cafes and restaurants!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 05/06/2024 18:52

@VelociraptorsVelociRapping very good. One of my interim weight loss targets relates to going to the theatre later this year. I want to be able to sit more comfortably.

LeafUsAlone · 05/06/2024 18:54

@justsaxy I dont know anything about saxenda, but you can count clicks with wegovy to adjust the dose you get from the pen.
I've seen some people getting more food noise and hunger at a higher dose. I think for some it passes and others stay on a lower dose if they're happy with their losses on that dose. Sorry I dont have more advice to give, but I definitely think it's worth a try if you can get it

RMNofTikTok · 05/06/2024 18:56

Well after being stuck at a floor of 18st 9.4lb for 5 weeks I've lost 2.2lb in 2 days and I'm now 18st 7.2lb!

I still have a very long way to go but I'm so pleased, I had convinced myself wegovy had stopped working 😂🙈

I'm currently on holiday and dreading getting on the scales when I get back. I'm not going crazy but the lack of healthier options plus the fact I can't do my usual exercise will definitely mean I'm going to put weight back on.

What I did notice today was that I move a lot quicker and easier now with just over 3st off. I carried a rucksack around all day with no issue - usually I would be extremely uncomfortable with it digging into my fat. I climbed in and out of a horse drawn cart with no problem and didn't have to worry about my fat arse blocking the sun.

Yesterday I was clambering up and down spiral staircases in castles and had no issue whatsoever. One was extremely tight and I would have struggled at my previous size as I don't think I would have easily fit down the staircase without going sideways.

I'm really noticing recently that I'm starting to feel thinner and it's a good feeling.

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 05/06/2024 20:04

Hello all, can I pop in please?

I started MJ on 25 April so I’ve had 6 doses, I was a shameful 23 stone, official weigh day Friday but I had a cheeky midweek weigh today and was 21 st 12 so that’s 16 lb!

noticing a few clothing items becoming looser and an inch off my waist already.

Looking forward to joining in the thread

QueenOfHiraeth · 05/06/2024 21:43

@Eminybob @Alicewondersalot Brains are weird!
I haven't had feelings of guilt when eating but I do have a feeling that I should be thinner already and a panic that I should be going further faster. I have lost half a stone on Rybelsus then almost half a stone in my 4 weeks on MJ which is fine considering 2.5 is a sub-therapeutic dose yet I feel as though I should have lost more and should be pushing my dose up faster.
I also have this really strange thing where I know I am not hungry but my brain is telling me to go and find something to eat. I prowl around the kitchen looking for anything I really fancy but finding nothing and it makes me quite agitated.

The provider I use gives free "Health coaching" which they recommend you should take up so I get nutritional advice from them every few weeks and am seeing a counsellor privately to try to unravel my weirdness! I'm in my 60s and realised I have been dieting on and off for over 50 years so am trying to cover all the bases to get things right this time

Fantastic results for first 6 weeks! Well done and welcome 🙌

That's great! Can I ask when you went on holiday, did you have to bring your pen with you? I need to fly for the summer holidays soon and will need to fly with 2 pens. Did you take them in your hand luggage or in your check in suitcase?

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 06/06/2024 07:46

@mmgirish we're just on a UK holiday, can't bear the thought of handling 2 under 5s abroad 😄.

MedExpress emailed me the other day though to say you put the pens in hand luggage (I assume the hold is too inconsistent for temperature) and try to put them in a fridge when you get to your destination. There's been a few people asking this on the main MJ thread and no one has had any issues with the pens being in hand luggage, or out of the fridge.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 06/06/2024 07:50

First week done and I’ve lost 1.7kg which has moved my BMI back from just over 40 to in the 39s.

I’m keeping a journal and I am going to work through some self help resources to address the psychological aspects of losing weight. I’ve lost and regained in the past. Currently, the MJ is giving me the headspace to start making lifestyle adjustments so I am going to make the most of it.

Psiren · 06/06/2024 08:55

Hi all, been lurking for a while, hope its ok to join in?
I started on 23rd April at an utterly shameful and embarrassing 24.7st and just weighed this morning and I've got to 23.3st! In just over 6 weeks 😮 Unfortunately you can't see any difference so far but I am feeling better. I'm on 5mg and the suppression is good, perhaps a little too good at times. I can only manage 2 meals a day and have a coffee with a generous serving of real cream as breakfast just to try and up the calories a bit. My biggest issue is feeling absolutely freezing cold all the time, has anyone else had this?

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 06/06/2024 09:12

@Psiren yes! It doesn't help that the weather has been pants but I have been really chilly. Apparently it's to do with the way the medication affects the hypothalamus?

Lots of people have mentioned fairly large losses which aren't necessarily apparent on a large body. I have been trying to remember that much of my loss to date is probably visceral fat, which is the most dangerous from a health point of view and the most important to lose!

Can any one advise me what to do.
My pen won't let me dial round to number 1 to get my last dose out. I can get hold of needles at my work but not till tomorrow night and not really sure how to get into the liquid.

Are you trying to do the 'hard twist' to get a fifth dose out of the pen? On the other thread people have mentioned using pliers to exert enough force.

OP posts:
Dogsbreath7 · 06/06/2024 09:52

It was easy on the 2.5mg MJ- put pen mouth then hard twist then when ‘free’ you can hand wind.

But one poster said didn’t work for 5mg pen / I have another week before I try it so can’t help.

i don’t know how using a needle to extract works- again someone mentioned needing insulin needles?

WoolyMammoth55 · 06/06/2024 10:41

@Sunshineandrainbow I used the single-use insulin needles for the past 2 weeks to draw out the "extra" dose.

I used needles like these: https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles/

Take off the pen lid, clean the red seal with alcohol wipe like usual. Then insert the needle into the red seal and slowly draw out the liquid - it comes out slowly but you'll get there!

Then injecting is a little bit different, the small needles plunge down slightly "stickier" than the big ben, which goes quite smoothly?

But it's not rocket science and was my preference over the hard twist because I wanted to titrate between doses so was good to measure with the little syringe how much I was drawing out.

Best of luck!

I managed to use the teeth method on my 5mg pen. I got one full dose and there was still some left over but i didn't use this because I wasn't sure how much I'd be getting. I can't bring myself to use the insulin needles but I can see how they are better for knowing exactly how much your getting x

LeafUsAlone · 06/06/2024 12:06

I dont think any of us should feel our starting weights are/were shameful, because that just feeds into the overriding problems that caused weight gain in the first place, for most of us.

Congratulations on your losses so far! I'm still plodding away very slowly, but happy something is happening!

I am trying to get the 4th dose out not a bonus dose.

I am worried about using a neddle about how far to inject it in to myself.

GreenGooner · 06/06/2024 15:07

Well, I'm back. My couple of days away turned into me not injecting my 3rd dose and eating and drinking what I wanted for 10 days 🤦‍♀️ I think I'd just missed that, but now realise that I need to get back to it.

I'll be injecting (and weighing) in the morning. In effect I'll be starting again so I think I'll order the 0.5 BUT will do another week on 0.25, then a few weeks a 0.33.

Lesson learnt (a very expensive one) but this is just a set back and NOT the end of the road for me.

Well done on all of the losses though, this thread has inspired me to pull my head out of the sand.

Are you sure because it really looks like you've done the fourth dose there. It looks like the plunger is on the final dose mark and what's left is the extra dose in there we talk about. There's 3 lines on the pen, first dose is halfway to the first line, then it's a dose each line.

Edited

This was going to be my question. If it's definitely the fourth dose and you can't twist it then you likely have a faulty pen.
