Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

I am very much a "not hungry just bingeing" kind of eater. Mounjaro stopped it in its tracks. I should say I did respond very well to the 2.5 dose and not everybody does. I either feel really full so don't want to snack. Or I just don't think of it. I completely stopped eating after dinner without a thought.

On the odd occasion when I've felt snacky I get full really quickly and stop. I'm using the time now to try and embed good habits if I do feel I want to eat something. Hopefully that will help me maintain good habits once off the medication.

I’d seen this, and that’s my plan so I get the five doses each month, just need to work it out. I thought I just needed an extra needle but will look into this more.

You can do a "hard twist" to force the pen to be able to deliver the 5th dose (I used my teeth but I wouldn't recommend that!) You will need an extra needle though.

Sunshineandrainbow · 18/05/2024 10:29

Stayed the same this week, honestly feel gutted especially when I think how much this costs and the fact I do 2 extra evening shifts to pay for it.
Maybe it's because I lost 3 last week. But at 17 stone something should be coming off.

ClonedSquare · 18/05/2024 10:46

@KeepingUndercover I'm the same, a real boredom eater rather than a hungry one in normal life, although I do struggle with hunger when on a diet. So while mounjaro has had a nice hunger-abating effect, the biggest difference has been not having cravings or ideas about food popping into my head when I'm bored, and making it easier to decline those thoughts when they do pop up.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 18/05/2024 11:11

I’ve just posted on the long-running thread so apologies for duplication of anyone is on both. I’ve lost 9lb this week, my first on the 5mg pen, which sounds incredible but I’m worried by how fast it is as I have barely been able to eat at all on 5mg. I’m hoping it will settle down. It does however mean that my BMI is now (just) under 40 for the first time in a very long time.

TimeIretired · 18/05/2024 11:38

That worked for me once or twice but I’ve just tried on my 5mg pen and although it eventually twisted out, it wouldn’t plunge and deliver the dose. Not sure how you extract it otherwise- I’ve seen mention of it on here but any thorough explanation would be welcome. It feels like I’m throwing £20+ away!

MoreThanJustANumber · 18/05/2024 13:47

@TimeIretired I had the same thing happen, hard twist worked on the 2.5mg but not on the 5mg so I bought some insulin needles. They hold 1ml, so you can extract all the extra left in the pen which can be a bit more than a single dose so ideal if moving up to the next dose the week after. I got mine here: ukmedi.co.uk/products/1ml-8mm-30g-bd-microfine-syringe-and-needle-u100-bd-320935-ukmedi-co-uk

Hi all,

I've just joined here after reading all the threads I could find about Mounjaro.

I took my first dose of 2.5 last night after dinner, other than an almost immediate headache, I haven't noticed anything untoward today. I don't expect the suppressant feeling to kick in already but I am already very conscious of what I am eating so as not to attract unwelcome side effects!

I'm 44, 5'3 and 17st 10lbs - I have PCOS and Endometriosis which makes losing weight the normal way virtually impossible for me. I have wanted to try these injections for a while but could never justify the money, however my 40 year old sister was rushed to hospital with a suspected heart attack this week, our family have an hereditary heart condition, and it scared me so much that it gave me the kick I needed to sort my weight out. (She's ok BTW, it's Angina, but she's a LOT slimmer than me so it was a huge shock)

I have tried so many other ways to lose weight, I really hope this is the one that works, I am sacrificing what little money I have to do this so fingers crossed!

Thanks to everyone for being to honest and helpful in their posts, it really gave me the confidence to try this. Lovely to meet you all ♥

Hello, allow me to join with SW of 108kg and BMI of 37.5. I had my first MJ injection yesterday. 24 hours later, no good or side effects that I can notice of, in fact I don't feel any different at all. Waiting for that glorious appetite suppression.

oreo2024 · 18/05/2024 15:31

Oh and I am 45 😊

BusyBlue · 18/05/2024 16:07

@catgirl1976 Amazing loss. You must feel great!

Week 2 weigh in after an 11lb loss in week 1 and just 2lbs off this week. Was hoping to hit the 1 stone mark, but happy that I lost. Possibly hormonal possibly, I didn’t drink enough water or a combination of the two. Only 3 lbs to get down to the next stone bracket.

MoreThanJustANumber · 18/05/2024 16:22

@oreo2024 It was in my third week, a few days after my second jab that I had any effects. Some have taken longer so just stick with it. You'll know it when it happens. 😄

ViolaPlains · 18/05/2024 16:23

I'm finding the appetite suppressant really weird. I was at a conference this morning, got the free coffee and packet of two biscuits, and never ate the biscuits even though they were on the table in front of me. Usually I would eat them and then wonder if anybody would notice if I got a second packet - I feel quite liberated.

My first dose was on Monday and really the only symptom I've had has been slight heartburn.

I find the same. I took my son out for ice cream today and wasn't even a little tempted to get one for myself! That's definitely not the normal me 😂

Grandmalyn · 18/05/2024 18:06

End of week 7 and 1 st 3 lbs down. Hoped for more but no side effects so happy about that. I have had 3 weeks on holiday in the 7 weeks - all walking holidays and 2 of them self catered - but it is still quite difficult to stick to the healthiest foods when you only have limited resources. Moving up to 7.5 next week so hopeful that might give me a weight loss boost. I have to say this is the easiest diet I have been on and I have tried a few in my 72 years !! Onwards and upwards for me but I think it will be a long haul to reach my target. Good luck to all and try to keep focused

catgirl1976 · 18/05/2024 19:04

Thanks @BusyBlue

i am really really Happy with the loss so far. It’s life changing for me.

on Friday (which is my injection day). I was hungry so I had some take away so I’ve not weighed myself today in case I’ve gained a bit. Going to see where I am tomorrow but hoping to be a pound or so down

loving hearing of everyone’s losses …

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 18/05/2024 19:47

I've reached 3st weightloss this week which I'm really happy about. That means I'm halfway to a healthy weight now as I had 6st to lose to get to a bmi of 24.
My bmi started at 40 and is now 31.5

I've been working away a lot this month so the loss was a little slower than I'd have liked, but better than I thought I'd do. I still don't have full appetite suppression but I'd rather still be able to eat what I want anyway.

I have a mini goal to hit 12st 7lb by my 40th in a couple of weeks.

I'm having to have a major clear out of my clothes as so many are way too big.

RagzRebooted · 18/05/2024 20:13

What's the opposite of a NSV?
Took DD to Primark this afternoon and I tried on some shorts. Pleased the 18 fit after 1.5 stone loss as I think I was probably a 20 in denial, but...
My thighs! Those mirrors and the lighting must a special combination of hideously unflattering, because my thighs are so dimpled and I had no idea. They just look awful, like cellulite but really lumpy all over. Doesn't help that I'm very pale skinned. But it it did make me quite sad. DH has always loved my legs and I honestly hadn't realised just how fat they were these days.

I bought the shorts anyway, because we're camping next weekend and I won't be the only obese woman in unflattering clothing. But still... Sad day.

Badknitter · 18/05/2024 21:26

I will be joining you soon - I will be collecting my MJ on Monday hopefully and I am hoping this works for me as ozempic did nothing for me when I took it. I was on the waiting list for tier 3 weight management but recently got a letter telling me this had been closed as this is no longer funded. So this is my only opportunity to get help to lose weight.

KrankyKumquat · 18/05/2024 22:32

Hi everyone.
I've been lurking on the site for a week and found this thread tonight - perfect! I've 5 stone to lose and took my first dose of Mounjaro today.
I've been dieting all my life and always managed to lose weight quite easily. But, then covid hit, as did my menopause and, before I knew it, I'd put on 3 stone (and developed a bottle of wine a day habit) and couldn't lose it.
Anyhow, I've been really good all week and now hoping the jab will give me an extra weapon in my battle!
And I certainly need it...does anyone else have an OH who sabotages their diets? This week my OH went to the shop to buy grapes having eaten all mine (!), and returned with pork belly for tea (and no grapes). Could he have chosen a worst meat? He then cooked tea last night and made spag bol after I'd told him this was the worst possible thing for me. I literally had to stand beside him as he dished up, pulling piles of spaghetti off my plate! He then sulked 🙄 Honestly, as if losing weight isn't hard enough...
Anyway, nice to meet you all and looking forward to some motivational chats with you over the next few months.

RMNofTikTok · 19/05/2024 11:03

Hi all! Did my third injection on Thursday and was panicking because I appeared to be gaining weight... it hovered and the numbers weren't moving. I've suddenly lost 3lb overnight! Just goes to show that weight loss is not linear. I'm now 8.2lb down in 17 days. It's not the biggest loss granted, but it's a sustainable one!

RMNofTikTok · 19/05/2024 11:17

@RagzRebooted I bet the cellulite is nowhere near as bad as you think it is. I went swimming for the first time in years recently and my friend said my legs are "smooth". I laughed at her, because I'd convinced myself they were hideous!

RagzRebooted · 19/05/2024 11:40

@RMNofTikTok thanks. I do think it was particularly bad lighting, but I'm going to hunt out my body brush and make sure to give my legs a good massage every night.
I think it was just a bit of a crash back to earth after having a week of feeling so pleased with my weight loss and fitting into clothes and not looking so bad, then I had too many encounters with full length mirrors while wearing a too tight t shirt and realised just how obvious the extra 4 stone I'm still carrying really is!
I think in my head I was going to spend the summer swanning around in new clothes being all slim and fabulous. Realistically it's going to take 6 months at least, which is why I posted my moan here rather than the other thread! While it's wonderful to hear people getting so close to goal after just 3 months, for those of us starting at higher weights it's a long slog and a while before we get the thrill of shopping for a size 14!

RMNofTikTok · 19/05/2024 11:43

@RagzRebooted it is frustrating isn't it? My happy scales app is currently predicting that it will take me 16 months to get down to a bmi of 25, I'll just scrape it before I'm 40! It seems so far away, but if anyone had told me I'd be over half a stone down 2.5 weeks ago I'd have been ecstatic with that!

RagzRebooted · 19/05/2024 12:35

@RMNofTikTok I'm 40 next year too and that's definitely my goal, healthy BMI before I'm 40! I have 15 months.
Half a stone in less than 3 weeks is fab, I've done a stone and a half in 8 weeks and it's the most I've managed for years so this is definitely it, I think I just needed a bit of grounding and to accept it's still a long game, not a sprint.
