Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

@PissedOffNeighbour22 3 stone is amazing, well done! How many weeks in are you?

GreatGateauxsby · 19/05/2024 12:53

Sunshineandrainbow · 18/05/2024 10:29

Stayed the same this week, honestly feel gutted especially when I think how much this costs and the fact I do 2 extra evening shifts to pay for it.
Maybe it's because I lost 3 last week. But at 17 stone something should be coming off.

I feel you... i am weighing in every day, being consistent, 12k+ steps each day, loads of water, no alcohol and this week have lost ZERO.

Logically i must be losing fat because i know i am in a calorie deficit but its annoying.
The weight is also very slow to shift. But it is coming off gradually.

When i read about people losing 7lbs in a week / a stone in a month my mind is boggled...

@GreatGateauxsby @Sunshineandrainbow I feel the same. However I am starting to feel a difference in some of my closer fitting clothes so Im trying not to feel too disheartened. Maybe we should start a thread for slow losers as well?!

KeepingUndercover · 20/05/2024 07:41

Sorry to those who aren't seeing the movement on the scales you want, I hope it comes soon.

My scales are moving, 1.4kg off this week. A shade under 14kg in total. But I'm not seeing it reflected in my clothes as much. Or my appearance. I think the dispiriting thing about starting so heavy is that you lose 2 stone and still look just as fat! I want to be in a "ooh I can wear a size 16" but instead I'm still in size 22 trousers, just the ones that were a bit snugger because I was a 22/24. It feels like there's a mountain still to climb because there is!

I have realised everything I do I compare myself to others including weight loss.
Slow and steady still wins the race.
I also need to remember I have been dieting for the last 15 years and lost and gained the same 5lb as I didn't deal with my food addiction.

I don't know why but I am definitely not feeling the same effects this week of 5mg (second week)
Next jab Wednesday.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 20/05/2024 10:12

@RagzRebooted thank you. I'm on my 13th dose. I started in February.

@KeepingUndercover it took 2st loss for me to drop from a 20 to an 18. But then the drop to a 16 was much faster. It was really disheartening at the time but the loss is really noticeable now even though I'm still classed as obese. It might feel slow but you WILL get there.

MoreThanJustANumber · 20/05/2024 10:16

@Sunshineandrainbow @LeafUsAlone @GreatGateauxsby
I'd definitely join your slow losers thread! I think comparing myself to others is becoming a bit of a problem for me.

I am losing slowly, taking my 13th injection this week so will have done 12 full weeks, and have lost just over 15lbs. If I wasn't comparing myself to anyone else I would be pleased with that, not least because this is the easiest 'diet' I've ever done and it's sustainable because I don't feel like I'm depriving myself of anything, and losing slowly will give me a bit longer to develop better habits.

Some weeks the scales don't move at all, but overall I'm positive this is working for me, and is something I can continue for as long as is needed. Hopefully it will be something available on the NHS in the not too distant future for those that are struggling to afford it.

KeepingUndercover · 20/05/2024 10:50

Thanks @PissedOffNeighbour22. I'm hoping it starts showing more soon. I feel better anyway, so that's the main thing.

thebigmove21 · 20/05/2024 11:26

I feel very similar to lots of others here. I seem to have lost the first 1.5 stone very quickly in about 6 weeks but can’t get past that now. I took my first 7.5mg on Saturday this is my 9th week. I hope the higher dose kick starts it again. I feel a bit dispirited because I haven’t even eating hardly anything on the 5mg and so not sure what more I can do to kick off the weight loss again.

Alicewondersalot · 20/05/2024 15:47

Hey 👋 everyone!

can I join?

I’ve been following/lurking on the main Mounjaro thread for weeks now and currently on my 5th week but titrating up slowly as I have close to 10 stone to reach the top of the healthy BMI range for 5 ft 8. I have had four weeks on 2.5mg and two weeks on 3.33mg (bonus dose + new 5mg pen). Next dose this Friday. Had various side effects but nothing too horrendous.

SW 20st 10lbs 🫣
CW 19st 10.6lbs
GW 11st ish?!

I haven’t been 11 stone for a good 20 odd years, so seems like an impossible dream.

For me Mounjaro has done more than help with my eating - my anxiety and mood has improved which is amazing! I feel motivated to do things and I am procrastinating less. In some of the research I’ve done I think it increases dopamine - I must have had a deficiency? Anyone else seen their mental health improve?

SakuraTrees · 20/05/2024 16:56

@Alicewondersalot your stats are pretty much the same as mine. Starting at 20st, goal is 11st and I'm 5ft7. I'm start of week 15 though

oreo2024 · 20/05/2024 18:32

Day 4 of the 1st injection here and I could swear that if there is a tiny bit of appetite suppression this could all be placebo as I have been trying to convince myself that I am less hungry, but actually I feel as hungry as always. Very strange beginnings!

chrispenrallt1 · 20/05/2024 18:57

Well I have ordered from Bolt waiting to see if my prescription is approved. It’s the last day of my ho,I day so hopefully the pen will be there when I get home.
Wish me luck when I’m doing the first injection as massive needle phobia here

Alicewondersalot · 20/05/2024 19:00

@SakuraTrees Brilliant! How’s your journey been? What dose are you on now? 🙏😊

just after posting, when I said the side effects haven’t been too horrendous, I then had a terrible bout of IBS that had me sitting on the toilet for ages. Haven’t had one of those in a while. Maybe I was backed up! 💩

SakuraTrees · 20/05/2024 19:40

@Alicewondersalot it's been hard. I'm on Wegovy and tbh I've been ill a lot with vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea, dizzy spells, muscle aches and really bad reflux. I'm currently on 1mg and hoping to stay on this dose until I get to 15st (currently 16st 2.8lbs)

TimeIretired · 20/05/2024 20:17

Anyone on the 10mg MJ here? I’ve been taking MJ since just before Easter, gradually working up to 7.5mg(first dose last Sat). Just had an email from my current provider Medexpress asking if I want to order the 10mg one. Whilst my appetite has been suppressed I am losing very slowly (16lb so far). Of course I would be happier to lose faster but also concerned the higher dose may suppress too far. Thoughts please?

Dogsbreath7 · 20/05/2024 21:26

@TimeIretired I believe the higher doses are the therapeutic doses so I would move up if side effects are tolerable. Worst case you could reduce the 10mg dose to a part % to equal 7.5mg. But second dose may be ok anyway. If you were happy with weight loss it would be different but ultimately we want to get to a dose which is working with consistent weight loss

Alicewondersalot · 20/05/2024 21:34

@SakuraTrees Amazing weight loss! 🙌Sounds like you’re doing well to keep on going despite the side effects. I have had reflux on and off too - especially at night. Usually when I haven’t drunk enough water, so I am definitely trying to up my fluids.

ShiftySandDune · 20/05/2024 21:43

Hi all! Joining, if you don’t mind. Just placed my order and uploaded my (shocking) pic tonight. Hopefully I will get approved in the next day or so. Looking forward to starting. 117kg, goal of around 80-85. We will see!

SakuraTrees · 20/05/2024 23:59

Thank you @Alicewondersalot
Regarding the reflux, I had to get medication from the GP in the end it was awful and no matter what I ate or drank nothing helped. It was just constant.

I have positive news for slow losers. I hung in there after a week of nothing and dropped almost 1kg today so have now broken below 90kg for the first time in a longggg time 🥳.
I think mixing up my daily calorie intake has helped this so am going to experiment going forward and report back.

Separately has another seen the thread about keeping off weight if you are over 50.
The Michael mosley wall sits and planks are a nice tip i might add to my routine.
Not sure about the chaffles though. They sound too delicious to have any health benefits 😅😅😅

Fantastic news! 🙌 @GreatGateauxsby I think I read somewhere that if you are on a low calorie diet for a long time it is good to have occasional days where you increase your calorie intake to help get your metabolism going. Sounds counterintuitive but I think it works.

i’ve had a few stalls and now follow a weekly calorie schedule of: first four days after an injection eating between 1200/1500 (which is low for me) and then I eat up to 2000 on the other three days when I have more appetite. Seems to be working for me. I’ve tried not to go too low on my calories straight away at the beginning of this journey because I have a long way to go and when I was maintaining at 20st I was probably eating 3000+ calories per day.

Sunshineandrainbow · 21/05/2024 08:26

Wow good for you. That's amazing.

Intresting about the calorie shake up.

I woke up in the night with awful pain top right of tummy below my breast, wow it was horrible and frightening. It did ease after some water.
Could be unrelated but
I do always inject that side and I always wonder if safe injecting over major organs. Maybe I will go lowering tomorrow into spare tyre!!

ClonedSquare · 21/05/2024 09:07

@Sunshineandrainbow - It's completely safe to inject in the places specified in the patient leaflet, even if they're over major organs. There is no way those of us with a weight/BMI high enough for Mounjaro are getting anywhere near our organs with a needle that tiny!
