Thought I’d start an early thread on this. Friday looks very blowy here in Wales. We currently have a yellow warning, waiting to see if it’s upgraded.

Still no power here in central belt… been off since lunchtime today. Thankfully plenty of candles, as we haven’t been able to light any nice ones since DS started trundling about. Using the baby’s light projector thingy to light the bathroom. Really hoping it’s back on tomorrow or we will be trying to find a deal on booking.com.

Tree through my car windscreen in Dreghorn, part of shed gone.

Our local bathroom shop uses a massive stuffed duck for promo. its about 12 foot high. our community has a love hate relationship with it. poor bugger fell victim to the storm and burst last night. the inner filling of small white polystyrene balls is all across the area. We found them in our building - we are streets away!

What a duck up!

I'm central belt mines went off about 1 and came on just before 8. My phone signal went off too I think the mass round here was down too. I hope it comes back on soon. They did 1.30 tomorrow afternoon for power to come back but that was just and estimate xxx

Countrygirlatheart1 · 24/01/2025 22:21

Checking in from the North Antrim coast, Northern Ireland. We were in the Red zone too.
The wind started howling at 3am. I've never heard anything like it, it was surreal.

Our power went off at 9am and just came back on at 9pm tonight. A lot of trees down and damage to commercial premises' roofs but thankfully no damage to our property.

Have you seen that they’ve said they’re hoping to reopen gym and swim on Monday? We’ll see.

From what I have seen online, and from friends, it seems like Holywood got it worse than Bangor, although as with Darragh - our friends in Bangor who are further inland seem to have been worse affected than those of us right by the sea.

Monday?!! No way. Well DD will be delighted but I’m not sure I buy it, the roof is literally ALL over the car park 🤣 I feel sorry for them, they only just finished the renovation!

Hope he's safe and gets out of it very soon. 🙏

Thank you ❤️ He was coming home in his lorry and even with 30 tonnes on the back of was up on one side a few times. He got home after 9 tonight. I'm so relieved he's home

They must've built the place on an ancient burial ground, it's surely cursed.

So pleased for you both that he's home safe. 👍

@AInightingale North Lanarkshire. It came down fairly heavy for about 10 minutes and now it's just little flakes. The sky went the weirdest colour, almost yellow.

Needspaceforlego · 25/01/2025 02:18

What time was lightening?
I was out in North Lan about 11.30

Plump82 · 25/01/2025 05:44

Just after midnight. (Just checked my message to my sister to show her) It was just one big flash and one rumble of thunder.

Next day and where I am in county Durham and we seemed to survived lol though these constant storms are REALLY stressing me out...the constant worry of what will happen drives me nuts,I have to draw the curtains and ram the TV volume way up lol...what the hell has happened to the weather? There doesn't seem a month go by with out some warning or other...anyone else wanna move country? 😅

GloriaSmud · 25/01/2025 06:40

Plump82 ~ sounds like that was an example of thundersnow.

I'm on the west coast (Renfrewshire) I've never seen anything like this. Every business in the area was closed. I think about half the village lost power

Huge number of trees down. My Mums fence is a casualty. Neither of us have checked the roofs that's a job for later.

My brothers right at the Ayrshire coast and it was absolutely wild there. They've got a bit of roof damage

Thankfully there seems to have been no serious injury or loss of life

Igneococcus · 25/01/2025 08:09

How is everybody?
Out power and 4/5G went at 4 pm yesterday and only just came back. Credit to the SSE guys who went out in that weather to fix it.

Sunnyside4 · 25/01/2025 08:14

Did the OP with the ponies come back to report who they and their ponies were?

Maybe not Florida because this weather system made it snow there!

My windows in Durham city are caked in white. Another job I'll leave to DH along with the guttering!

I'd have been home by then. I noticed gaps in the clouds and stars

Oh no - so bad for the environment. That stuff will be getting into the water courses and sea eventually.
Bloody hate polystyrene.

Auburngal · 25/01/2025 09:31

Supplies for some areas and some food products will be affected for another week or so.

Customers have no idea that if there has been severe weather, it knocks the supply chain. I remember during Beast of the East, our deliveries were coming in different times to normal and some products were unavailable for 10 days plus, due to areas where factories etc were located. When we explained to customers that supplies are affected due to BotE. The response from mainly the elderly was "that's not good enough".

Polystyrene is a hatred of my group of the litter wombles.

@GloriaSmud ah interesting!! I've never seen anything like it. The place is covered in black ice now. Which we get a lot but it's also raining so I'm assuming it's freezing rain?
