Thought I’d start an early thread on this. Friday looks very blowy here in Wales. We currently have a yellow warning, waiting to see if it’s upgraded.

I've not checked since this morning if we've been upgraded from yellow, South Ayrshire, Scotland. Scary

ThisIsAHoldUp · 22/01/2025 21:38

Checking in too. Costal north east England in an amber zone - forecast is for 80mph winds.

Good luck to those of you in Ireland!

prayformyfence · 22/01/2025 21:51

Checking in from North Ayrshire right on the coast, on a hill, exposed overlooking the islands. Thankfully able to wfh on Friday but watching nervously...

@prayformyfence that sounds exposed but absolutely stunning!

Usually that's just the maximum gust speed, not consistent wind speed.

Chersfrozenface · 22/01/2025 21:20

@WindsChange at the moment Northern is saying that its Leeds - Chester serviced will only operate between Chester and Manchester Victoria, so they think trains between those two stations will run.

Oh sorry, I’m actually driving. Just being nervous!

pippapipps · 22/01/2025 23:57

I'm in Ireland too and getting very anxious 😬

Caerulea · 23/01/2025 01:45

North Coast of Cornwall here - any weather geek want to chime in on the chances of this dropping its track south or is it more likely to wander north a little? Presumably the jet stream is too strong to bring it down any?

TooBigForMyBoots · 23/01/2025 01:48

I'm pretty prepared and I love a storm. I think my clematis arch will be fucked though. I'm expecting it to come down.Sad

Rowgtfc72 · 23/01/2025 07:24

East coast of Englad. Looking forward to biking to work in 62mph gusts tomorrow morning. And it's a headwind.

Coastal NE England here too. The gusts look bad at school pick up time. DDs school is in a tree lined avenue and a fair few trees were taken out by Arwen) I won't be parking in my usual space under the conker trees.

Hope everyone stays safe. It very much feels like the calm before the storm today.

OctopusSexArm · 23/01/2025 07:40

In Argyll here, on the coast! Just looked at that wind speed map and it's looking hairy here!

Had plans on Friday but have cancelled them, got shopping coming today instead of Saturday and all battery banks charged!

We get power cuts if someone sneezes 😂

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 23/01/2025 09:59

Northern Ireland has now gone red.

We're going to be in a bad way here in Co. Cork. We have a red warning from Thursday night into Friday morning, then an orange warning all day on Friday. Not looking forward to it.

I’ve cancelled everything tomorrow, DS school is shutting, and unfortunately I’ve just taken the stakes out of some young trees….

Avatartar · 23/01/2025 10:04

Time to get everything moveable out of the garden or anchored down. I know someone who had their wooden patio chairs blow into and break the house glass door.

Belindabelle · 23/01/2025 10:07

That’s central Scotland gone red too.

Dragonfly97 · 23/01/2025 10:10

North Shropshire here, but DH is working in Ireland, I've a feeling he'll be stuck there as they are due to come back on the ferry tomorrow, Dublin to Holyhead. I can't see that happening! I was hoping they could finish early but it doesn't look likely. 😒

RainbowZebraWarrior · 23/01/2025 10:24

Oh bugger. What's the betting this new red zone gets extended. I'm just a kick in the arse off the bottom edge of it. I'm trying to remember how much of a heads up we had last time we had a red warning here. Certainly our school didn't take a blind bit of notice about it and there was a lot of local damage.

I've moved all my bins from the drive into the back garden and sandwiched them together at the back gate. I'm going back out this afternoon to move or remove anything that could possibly take flight.

Last thing tonight will be leaving a lantern, torches, matches, candles and a couple of flasks of hot water on the bench.

I know it's been said before, but please move any vehicles out of the way of your houses if possible. (my neighbours have all block paved their front gardens and park right underneath their roof lines. Some ended up with roof tiles through their windscreens)

BestIsWest · 23/01/2025 10:24

South Wales here in the yellow zone about half a mile from the Amber zone and it’s horrible. Ten minutes ago it was like someone was throwing buckets of water and hail at the windows. We were having a delivery of some bathroom stuff so had the door open and the roaring was something else. I’m not sure if it was wind, thunder or jet engines.
Very dark too.

Belindabelle · 23/01/2025 10:36

@RainbowZebraWarrior and everyone else. Make sure you have some water in pots/jugs etc in case the water goes off if we have extended power cuts.

RabbitsRock · 23/01/2025 10:37

Just seen a report of a tornado not far away! We’re in mid Cornwall. Had heavy hail. Not sure what colour weather warning we have in place.

LadyChilli · 23/01/2025 10:38

This hadn't occurred to me (I'm in a red zone now) so thank you. I'm not optimistic that my garden fence will survive this storm as it was flapping around quite wildly during last year's amber alert storm.

Rowgtfc72 · 23/01/2025 10:49

Apparently tornados in Newquay and Bodmin in Corwall. I dollow Kernow Weather on Facebook and some of the things they're reporting now and predicting for tomorrow are scary!

Skyrmion · 23/01/2025 10:51

In Ireland, West Coast, not looking forward to this at all! Stay safe, everyone.

Fridaysgirl17 · 23/01/2025 10:58

In the Midlands in Ireland, red warning area, school is closed tomorrow, we were off today due to a training day so long weekend here with 2 kids, they are meant to go to dad's tomorrow night but somehow I'd say that won't happen,I'll be making sure all devices are charged tonight,my shopping comes this morning as usual so thankful for that.
