Thought I’d start an early thread on this. Friday looks very blowy here in Wales. We currently have a yellow warning, waiting to see if it’s upgraded.

Part of NW Wales has just been upgraded to amber, but not us, yet.

Checking in. We are Amber in West Yorkshire. Dont like the sound of this one at all.

mrsmacmc · 22/01/2025 13:39

Checking in. Central belt Scotland been upgraded to an amber warning. Not looking forward to this one 🥴 trying to be optimistic and see it as a test for recent roof repair we've had done 🤞🏻

TheBlackSheepbaaaa · 22/01/2025 14:25

West Yorkshire here and wondering whether I send my daughters to school on Friday. We live high up and school is a double decker bus journey away to an even higher up village.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 22/01/2025 14:32

We're going to be in a bad way here in Co. Cork. We have a red warning from Thursday night into Friday morning, then an orange warning all day on Friday. Not looking forward to it.

Update: most of Ireland has gone red. Yikes.

Legendofthelostkeys · 22/01/2025 16:16

Was supposed to be travelling by train to Glasgow on Friday but I imagine there'll be lots of cancellations so will travel up tomorrow instead.

mollyfolk · 22/01/2025 16:23

in Ireland too. They have sent out this weather warning very early. Does anyone know why it’s so certain?

According to the weather forum on boards.ie, the weather charts have all been showing really extreme weather. There's not usually such total consistency. So there's very little chance of it downgrading much.

TokyoSushi · 22/01/2025 16:40

Checking in, I'm away for work but back in Warrington Thursday night

pantsalot · 22/01/2025 16:41

I'm thinking about driving home (Central Scotland) from Aberdeenshire tomorrow afternoon. Is that a sensible decision? Is Friday DDay for it hitting us here?

ListenLinda · 22/01/2025 16:42

If anything, more likely to be upgraded considering what people are saying on social media.

mollyfolk · 22/01/2025 16:42

Interesting @UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername

Usually it’s a day before job. At least the shops will get a chance to stock up on the essentials - alcohol and bread.

I would do your journey tomorrow - correct it's to hit Friday morning safe travels

youwouldthink · 22/01/2025 18:36

In Ireland also. Entire country under Red warning now. All schools and creche ro close and only essential workers to travel.

Iamcaptainlee · 22/01/2025 20:14

It’s looking like we might get a red warning where I am which we haven’t had since good ole Hurricane Bawbag!!

ladymalfoy45 · 22/01/2025 20:18

In the Midlands. We have a brook running through the village. It's fed by a river so we have regular floods when there is heavy rain.
Yellow warning for wind at the moment.

Obviously you should all go to that NE corner, no wind there!

BoudiccasBangles · 22/01/2025 20:24

We were on the edge of the red warning for Darragh. We had the river up to our gate then. Fortunately we’ve not had much rain recently so the water table should be lower, the ground was saturated before the last storm.

One of the weather pages I follow has just shared this - it's wind speeds not warnings but I reckon there will be more red warnings issued

Going to delay getting the car cleaned then . Usually carpeted in muck after a storm

WindsChange · 22/01/2025 21:07

I’m travelling from Chester to Manchester Friday lunchtime - any ideas how it will be? Then back again late at night.

Bookish123 · 22/01/2025 21:10

We are amber at the moment but local met office said on the radio we may well be red by tomorrow morning. It's always windy here, but not usually red warning windy!

@WindsChange Which train companies would you be using?

I could pop onto a rail forum and check whether any knowledgeable posters/industry insiders have info.

Chersfrozenface · 22/01/2025 21:20

@WindsChange at the moment Northern is saying that its Leeds - Chester serviced will only operate between Chester and Manchester Victoria, so they think trains between those two stations will run.
