Although cold, snowy weather is still possible, we are a few weeks away from the start of meteorological spring (1st March)
So here are some thoughts from The Weather Outlook on what we might expect.

It's getting very hard to tell which season we are in! The transition looks potentially rather stormy - again. GFS is showing a very powerful jet stream returning to plague us.

Let's give up on winter a couple of days early. It has been so crap.

I think the general trend does look a little better from around the second week of March. It's going to be slow to dry everything out, especially as the threat of rain isn't really going away, but if we ignore the fact that everything appears to be slowly sinking into the mud, it should start to feel better.

Not quite meteorological spring but tomorrow (29 Feb) looks very wet where I am in Surrey tomorrow. The school run will be such fun!

The irony is that tomorrow , the first day of Spring may see wintry showers over high ground, perhaps even briefly in parts of the south. This is a continued theme into Saturday.

March coming in like a lion then …
Torrential rain and wind woke me up at 4:30am..

Some heavy snow causing significant issues in parts of Northern Ireland today.

Where I am, torrential rain and strong winds this morning.

The front will clear to the east leaving cold blustery showers but at least some sun arriving.

The theme continues for cold and at times wet or at least heavy showers into next week, more so for the south and west. Thankfully it currently looks like things will settle towards the end of next week.

At this time of year the sun is getting strong enough to start making a real difference to drying the ground out. All we need is for it to stop raining long enough.

Rain, Rain, go away
Leave my daffs and crocuses alone Sad

Settling in to the thread, hoping for a drier Spring.

I wish! Just checked my emails to see when it was that we changed the battery in the weather station and it was November 25th last year. Since then it has recorded 600mm of rain! 600mm! That's not far off the annual rainfall for this area.

The one good thing is that we haven't had to water any of the new trees but that's about it.

So desperate for proper sunny spring weather now. Went to Skegness last week and Tuesday afternoon was beautiful, me and DD sat on the beach (admittedly in coats) and it was dry and sunny and lovely. Then the rain again and it feels like it just hasn't stopped since. I want to see blue skies and feel the sun on my back.

Well, appropriately for the first day of Spring (and maybe showing there's either optimism or stupidity involved!), the frogs in the pond have produced the first frogspawn of the year!

More thoughts from The Weather Outlook ~ they think we're going to have a slightly warmer than average Spring.

We've had a decent day here (Leicester) today, sun has been out and it's had some warmth to it as well. And we've now got 3 clumps of frogspawn in the pond!

Hasn’t rained since Friday morning. Lovely outside at the moment (if a little cold). Forecast for this afternoon looks pretty dismal though.

We are also managing to squeeze more rain in this evening. After that, it will be better for a few days. There is some uncertainty over this weekend as to how much rain there will be.

Bus has driven through a lot of floods on the way home. Not sure 3 days was enough to dry the ground out much.

I love frogspawn! Ever since I was a kid.

I wonder if  @GloriaSmud and @OhYouBadBadKitten have any thoughts on Peak District weather next week?

I've got a last minute offer to do some work up there, have to answer tomorrow by midday. If I thought it wouldn't be raining (or snowing), then I'd take the chance and add on two days break as I'm free the Tuesday and Wednesday. But if it's terrible weather, I don't want to just sit in a hotel. Also the grounds might be really boggy for walking.

Hard to rely on forecasts a week ahead, I think.
