Although cold, snowy weather is still possible, we are a few weeks away from the start of meteorological spring (1st March)
So here are some thoughts from The Weather Outlook on what we might expect.

Raining cats and dogs again this week. Puddles everywhere in the car park when out shopping. It's depressing. It's not cold though. I had to take my coat off in Primark.

RafaistheKingofClay · 14/03/2024 22:58

Agree. Quite apart from what feels like constant rain, there’s very little sun when it isn’t raining. It’s just grey and overcast. The factor 30 in my moisturiser feels like it might be overkill.

SAD lamp is not a bad idea. Will keep taking the vitamin D. Might invest in a new wardrobe consisting entirely of waterproofs.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 14/03/2024 23:05

Every night it seems, I go to bed and Alexa notifies me that there is a 'chance of rain from 4am to 6pm tomorrow' I expect I shall wake up in the morning with gills!

I drive each day looking at the still bare trees here and it looks like December. (If I really squint, I can see tiny buds)

Hoping and praying that April is better. There is nothing nicer than a beautiful Spring filled with sunshine.

EmmaEmerald · 14/03/2024 23:32

No bare trees here. Full of greenery, I'm thinking the plant life is loving the rain?

We have lots of greenery and flowers out early - magnolia, camellia, forsythia all came out early. Though the constant wind has spoiled them pretty quickly.

I haven't lived here a year yet but the place feels damp. I don't think it is, I think it's because outside is always much colder than the "apparent" or real feel temps they publish. And the wind makes it feel colder. I think some buildings kind of "hold" damp more than others, or maybe everyone is feeling that about their home at the mo.

MotherOfCatBoy · 15/03/2024 09:53

I feel like that too @EmmaEmerald - I do live in South Wales which is wet admittedly but it feels far more so this winter. All the stonework etc is turning green, I’ve never known it so unrelentingly wet. I don’t think it’s just where you are, I think it’s widespread.

GloriaSmud · 15/03/2024 16:54

I have put a lighter duvet on our bed this morning as it was too warm with a winter one. This means it won't be long before winter returns!

Netweather have done their Spring forecast. Unsettled seems to be their main theme.....

Long range weather forecast for the UK - Winter 2023/2024. Will it be a cold winter?

Oh... so it is actually getting warmer? I've been playing the duvet hokey-cokey for the past three nights and blaming the menopause. Oops.

I agree with pp, my garage door and downpipes are turning a nice shade of green instead of white, and we won't talk about my poor car with the greenish tinge around the boot area, grrrr

justasking111 · 15/03/2024 20:08

I've a little cabriolet, sweated buckets last summer scrubbing the green off the black canvas then a lad at the garage resealed it for me with the professional stuff. This last month the rear boot part has gone green again 😭

So does everyone find their forecast changes every five minutes? As late as yesterday morning, it was said today would be sunny. Obviously I woke up and it was raining - and apparently it's now going to rain all day.

All the brightness that was forecast for next week has been replaced by dark grey cloud.

I can't wait for some proper light. Wonder where the brightest and driest place is in England now?

Yep, not even worth looking at at the moment they're so changeable. Tumble dryer melted one of my teddy bear fleeces last night and I had decided to just leave it because warmer weather is around the corner but after another wake up to rain and grey I'm now in Tesco seeing if they have a replacement

This weather is driving me nuts. My horse is a hot bod and is too warm in even a no fill rain sheet. But without a rug cleaning the mud off him to ride is a mammoth task and I need to bring him in long enough for it to dry or grooming just smears it around and clogs the brushes. By the time he's clean it's pissing down again so I give up.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/03/2024 17:08

My feet are suffering from running in permanently wet trail shoes. Every run or walk seems to take much longer than it ought as I can't get traction.
I'm barely looking at the weather models, almost every day is a grey day, even when I've been hopeful for some sun.

justasking111 · 17/03/2024 19:11

I felt the sun on my face today and there was warmth in it. I just stood on the drive soaking it up. This afternoon cloudier but no rain. Tomorrow is supposed to be dry until late on.

nannynick · 17/03/2024 19:38

Just look at the weather for the week ahead (West Surrey) and I cannot see constant rain. Cloudy, bit of sun, little sign of rain.
Maybe this week will be a good walking week. I will aim to do 9 miles tomorrow.

Yes! I have good reason to check regularly and have been doing so for years. It's driving me insane now. It seems to have been overly changeable for weeks, if not months. What's happened?

EmmaEmerald · 19/03/2024 15:14

@WotNoLoobrush Maybe they don't want to say "cold and damp for the looong foresseable".

@OhYouBadBadKitten The running situation sounds grim.

I'm using heating, which doesn't makes sense when you look at thermostat, but the damp makes it cold. I haven't left the flat today, there's just nothing enticing about going outside unless you actually have to! Which applies to everyday this week, so I figured I'd stay in today even though it's not actually raining.

Pixiedust1234 · 19/03/2024 16:31

/looks at Emma before whispering very, very quietly - it's lovely and warm here, went out without a coat this morning, sun is still streaming through the windows and it's 4.30pm when it normally drops but it's still top only/no cardigan inside, not jumper, or thermal or oodie!! 😮

The cat is loving it, lying on my bed upside down in a patch of sun. No idea who it belongs to though 😬

justasking111 · 19/03/2024 16:43

Was gorgeous here this morning took the hood down on my car. I've just lit the fire now though because it's chilly. Had windows and the back door open as well

EmmaEmerald · 19/03/2024 17:02

@Pixiedust1234 are you in England? I could go to a sunny place at the weekend if I thought anywhere was going to be sunny.

Forecast said it was 15 in Essex today! No way was it 15.

justasking111 · 19/03/2024 17:07

I'm hoping it rains tomorrow. I've had a six foot weeping willow in a pot for ten days waiting to be planted out. The weather has been dry so husband has been working on his boat every day.

gingercat02 · 19/03/2024 17:08

It was a beautiful spring day on the NE coast. Sunshine and about 15°C. I'll take that at the moment

Pixiedust1234 · 19/03/2024 18:14

@EmmaEmerald East Midlands. My house regularly gets cold and damp so I use a dehumidifier upstairs. Every bedroom gets it for one day each and it pulls out a frightening amount of water (and it makes it warmer, not just drier).

Same here, I rely on the forecast for work but it's wrong much of the time. Almost every time we're forecast dry weather we get rain, which makes it very hard to plan jobs. I'm pretty much better off just looking out of the window.

Someone told me that last 18 months have been the wettest for 200 years but don't know the veracity of that. Is it true?

WotNoLoobrush · 19/03/2024 18:48

I could believe that @Vegemiteandhoneyontoast.

So envious of those who've had sun today.
