Although cold, snowy weather is still possible, we are a few weeks away from the start of meteorological spring (1st March)
So here are some thoughts from The Weather Outlook on what we might expect.

I'm very jealous of those who have had sunshine. For me this autwintspring has been no snow, no frosts, almost no clear nights and very very little sunshine. I hate it.

MotherOfCatBoy · 19/03/2024 20:43

Same, same. Yesterday was lovely here, we walked to our local cinema and back, lots of sun in the eyes. Today was looking promising after rain overnight and then it suddenly chucked it down again, totally contrary to the forecast of a fine day. Heavy showers with sunshine then more heavy rain.
Had. Enough.

I’m seriously wondering whether the rain is connected to the sea temperature rises. Warmer sea, more moisture in the air, more rain, right? I mean I know it’s more complicated than that, but in general? Which is scary because that means the pattern might be set for the future?

It was a beautiful spring day on the NE coast. Sunshine and about 15°C. I'll take that at the moment

Wasn't it just?

Slightly gutted to wake up this morning to the grey sky and wet ground again. I have to go into Newcastle and it would have been nice to do that with a blue sky. It makes everything look better and lifts everyone's mood.

I stopped to take some cash out of the cashpoint yesterday. The sun was shining on the crown of my head and that warm feeling was just fabulous. It actually felt weirdly alien though as it's been so long!

I've saved tidying up the office and wrapping Easter presents for todays task. I'll also make a meat loaf and refrigerate. Then lazy afternoon.

After all tomorrow is another day 😊

nannynick · 20/03/2024 09:45

The forecast on the 17th was clearly wrong, as it has rained. Today though looks a bit better, so I hope not to get wet on my 9 mile walk. Taking an umbrella though.

Pixiedust1234 · 20/03/2024 10:37

I shouldn't have been so happy yesterday. By evening we had torrential rain, the stray cat refused to go out despite crossed legs, and we had mini rivers on the paths and road grrrrr

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/03/2024 13:12

I actually have some hazy sunshine today peeking through the clouds. Happy Dance!

As do we

Pixiedust1234 · 20/03/2024 15:28

I would say now I know where my sunshine went, but I've got a feeling kitten is down south and just is either up north or n.wales which is still up north to me 😂

Did you go halfsies? 🙁

EmmaEmerald · 20/03/2024 17:17

I had to be out and walk between meetings and there was sun in London and Essex. My coat was too warm by lunchtime and I believe the temp was what they said for once, it felt like 17.
Was so nice!

Now it's a case of seeing which forecast is right for the weekend. Thank goodness today was decent though.

@justasking111 I do love that outfit, and Vivien Leigh.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/03/2024 21:17

Make the most of the warmth, it's set to turn chilly again from around this weekend. Next week looking unsettled again with more rain and some strong winds. Probably looking best overall in the north.

EmmaEmerald · 20/03/2024 22:15

Thanks @OhYouBadBadKitten
Tomorrow is meant to be similar to today, I hope that turns out to be right.

RobinEllacotStrike · 21/03/2024 00:14

Beautiful in the SE today. It really felt like spring was here.

Sorry all, today is my fault. Beautiful sunshine streaming through the (dirty) windows so I decided I would wash the outsides. Washed up the breakfast pots, found stepladder, bucket, sponge and thought to myself, let's have a quick, fortifying cup of tea first.

It's now dark in the house, wind rattling the bin, and rain poring down... and I'm only half way down the cup of tea. Did I unwittingly pray to a rain god somehow? 😳

Did you summon the hail we've got, too? 😩

Pixiedust1234 · 23/03/2024 12:06

No no. Pretty sure I've only had the hard, white, lumpy rain amongst the normal rain. No hail here 👀😬

gingercat02 · 23/03/2024 12:11

Lovely sunny day here, but WINDY! 🌬🌬🌬

justasking111 · 23/03/2024 12:58

Went cold 🥶 last evening. Sun today but much colder. Windy too

11 years ago today my son built an Igloo

Hail and wind, then rain, now sunny. I was not happy walking in the hail earlier.

RafaistheKingofClay · 23/03/2024 15:39

It’s hailing. Makes a change from rain I suppose. If it’s going to be cold might have to turn heating back on.

EmmaEmerald · 23/03/2024 19:55

Well, the temperature has absolutely plummeted here like in the last hour or so. I could really feel it dropping fast.

I had to switch the heating on.

It was forecast to rain all day.

There was a charity walk I would have gone on, but not in the rain and also the relevant tube line isn’t running today.

So I decided to stay at home. And it didn’t rain. I’m not actually complaining about that but it’s ironic that we now can’t rely on the weather forecast for it raining either.

In fact, it was quite sunny and there are now lots of nice pictures of smiley people on the walk on social media. Grr. No idea what to expect weatherwise for the forthcoming week.

EmmaEmerald · 25/03/2024 11:34

Thoughts on Easter? I might actually go away anyway. Even if I'm stuck in a hotel room, at least it will be different to being stuck in this tiny box that I stupidly moved to.

Good for you Emma. I've a friend with a small flat who uses it as a stepping stone to adventures she says.

Blowing a gale here this morning.

The 1st of March signifies weather for the Spring, and on that day I wrote in my diary:
'Heavy rain in the morning. Cold day. 11am sun, 2pm rain, sun, rain, sun … Sunny in the late afternoon'
So there you go: rainy/snowy start to the spring, then, very changeable weather until third part of the spring (May?), when we will have sunny weather.

P.s., I have written the weather prediction for summer and autumn in my diary, too (March 2 and 3) 😆
