Snow watch.

While for many it is milder today, it will become colder again tomorrow. The main snow risk starts on Thursday where both GFS and ECM show a risk of snow in the south into the midlands and Wales, away from south eastern coastal counties. They both model a low moving in from the Azores, bumping into cold air.

GFS takes this right into northern England and parts of Scotland.

As always, early days and so there is lots of uncertainty. We await the next model run

@justasking111 I love your turn of phrase 😂

I'm hearing long range reports of snow on the weekend of 17/18 feb, the first weekend in forever that I have actual interesting plans. I really hope that's not the case.

beenrumbled · 05/02/2024 16:16

So we are due to travel from Scotland back home on Thursday via M74 and M6🙈

GloriaSmud · 05/02/2024 16:50

beenrumbled ~ you might be ok if you can set off early but I'd keep an eye on the forecast as I think things will get a bit more certain over the next few days.

GloriaSmud · 05/02/2024 16:58

This is roughly what the GFS thinks at the moment when it comes to snow on Thursday at midday and 3pm.

A great picture of the Manchester Snow Shield going up at 3pm!

For once it can stay up North! I have a flight to catch from Heathrow.

DrCoconut · 05/02/2024 22:33

I'm praying there will be no snow. I'm stuck at hospital with DS and need transport to be easy.

ChubbyChinook · 05/02/2024 22:39

What is the likelihood of that band of snow drifting further south to South Wales/Bristol? DH travelling along M4 to Swansea on Thursday with work.

GloriaSmud · 06/02/2024 06:08

ChubbyChinook ~ The band of snow is moving northwards but the angle it comes in at/moves across the country means the further south you are, the more likely it is that you either get nothing at all or rain. So for your DH's journey, it's looking likely it'll be mostly rain or possibly sleety stuff.

DrCoconut ~ hope all goes well with your DS

Delatron ~ you should be ok!

Delatron · 06/02/2024 08:35

Thank you @GloriaSmud it’s unusual that I don’t want snow but not this time!

hoochycrone · 06/02/2024 09:43

Thanks @GloriaSmud 🥰
Who knows? Maybe 🛷🛷🛷?
If we have any I shall blow some down to Leicester 🌬️☃️☃️☃️

GloriaSmud · 06/02/2024 10:13

Please do hoochycrone ~ it's looking a bit marginal for me at the moment and it looks like it could do with some help looking less marginal!

ChubbyChinook · 06/02/2024 10:29

Thank you @GloriaSmud

Updated metoffice weather warnings for the next few days.
Warning areas could still change ~ models are still struggling a bit....

That's way up north and normal for them

GloriaSmud · 06/02/2024 15:14

justasking111 ~ it's more Thursday and Friday that the models are struggling with at the moment.

I’m caught by that and we are just outside Nottingham. It’s not that far north!

GloriaSmud · 06/02/2024 15:42

justasking111 ~ yes, it's being a proper pain in the posterior when it comes to forecasting at the moment!

piscofrisco · 06/02/2024 15:46

As usual nothing in Herts. Bland and boring as ever. I'm so homesick for The Peak District. I think we have had one frost in Herts this year and that's it.

RainyLife · 06/02/2024 16:47

Kids here are hoping for decent snow fall and an early start to half term. Cumbria/North Yorks border. As long it's not followed by a deep freeze (Dec 2022 anyone?) I'll be happy for them.

Thanks for the updates 😊

Notonthestairs · 06/02/2024 16:56

Yup, dull weather in Hertfordshire. It's fine by me as I have a lot of driving over the next couple of weeks. But it's shame for those that want a chance to get the sleds 🛷 out!
It also means the weeds in my garden are growing like, um, weeds!
