While for many it is milder today, it will become colder again tomorrow. The main snow risk starts on Thursday where both GFS and ECM show a risk of snow in the south into the midlands and Wales, away from south eastern coastal counties. They both model a low moving in from the Azores, bumping into cold air.

GFS takes this right into northern England and parts of Scotland.

As always, early days and so there is lots of uncertainty. We await the next model run

@OhYouBadBadKitten is it looking like south/south east is out of the running? I’m still looking hopefully out of the window in Essex 😂

Unescorted · 16/01/2024 07:51

It is snowing here in the Manchester side of the Peaks. There aren't many cars going past so I think the roads are becoming impassable higher up.....

Stowickthevast · 16/01/2024 07:53

@justasking111 are you anywhere near Anglesey? DD1 is on a school outward bound type trip up there. It's digital detox so they've got no phones. Is it sticking?

Stowickthevast · 16/01/2024 07:53

Nothing in London.... But we're ever hopeful. It is very cold.

gingercat02 · 16/01/2024 08:04

Not a flake in the NE as yet. Very dry out there -1°c but no visible frost.
BBC weather app suggests some sleet/snow this afternoon

ThisMustBeMyDream · 16/01/2024 08:25

Snow in Wigan! Decent coverage, still coming down! Schools open... wish me luck!

No snow on Anglesey yet

Few flakes in Bradford, but nothing meaningful yet. Just waiting for train to Leeds. Showing after 5pm for us

ChocHotolate · 16/01/2024 09:02

-3 in central london this am. We won't get snow of course but it's still very cold

Evenstar · 16/01/2024 09:23

A good inch of snow here in Cheshire, roads are fine though I saw two cars have a slow coming together. Some of the routes I thought would be gritted were clearly not so I wonder if they have been cost cutting.

GloriaSmud · 16/01/2024 10:03

The cloud on the Netweather radar that looked like it might be heading my way a few hours ago and give a covering here in Leicester, has come to nothing so I shall sit here looking at all the snow pictures!

Stowickthevast · 16/01/2024 10:33

Thanks @justasking111 . To be honest they'd probably love some snow but they're meant to be doing trekking, mountain biking and some terrifying looking via ferrata cliff walking, so I do hope they get to do that.

Loving the snow pics too!

TokyoSushi · 16/01/2024 10:48

Just started again in Warrington!

VesperLind · 16/01/2024 11:09

Snowing now (outside Leeds).

LooksABitElvish · 16/01/2024 11:14

We have sunshine now (high peak). Hopefully snow will clear in time for school run - it was hairy getting to the village primary school halfway up a hill in a rear wheel drive automatic. Thank goodness for all weather tyres (snow/mud).

the80sweregreat · 16/01/2024 11:48

I'm in Essex and we rarely get any snow here
It's freezing though and was - 4 this morning ( 7am)
Roads were a bit hairy in places

Plump82 · 16/01/2024 14:32

Well we've had 2 flurries that have lasted not even 5 mins and now it's rain. No big freeze here!!

justasking111 · 16/01/2024 17:04

Friend saw a strange thing in the sky this morning. Sort of like a rainbow but pink reaching into the sky. Some weather phenomenon she said

Justmuddlingalong · 16/01/2024 18:10

We're in Fife, right on the coast. We had a short sleet shower earlier, soaking the ground. The temperature must have dropped suddenly because the ground and garden furniture have a thick frozen glaze on them. I dread to think what the roads will be like. We're due snow tonight so I'd imagine it'll settle.

whitebreadjamsandwich · 16/01/2024 19:48

NE Scotland here - it's been pretty snowy the past few days with treacherous road conditions, closed schools, and cars having to be abandoned. Meant to be like this for another few days

BiddyPop · 16/01/2024 19:59

Brussels airport has issued a warning about possible flight disruptions due to snow tomorrow. There was a Victoria sponge dusting on rooftops this morning but it melted fast and has been dry and bright all day.

TheFormidableMrsC · 16/01/2024 21:24

I saw on a news update that there is a chance of snow pushing up from South Coast but I don't believe them anymore having been so totally let down with snow this week!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/01/2024 21:29

I think snow may graze southern coastal counties. But there's a low likelihood of it (not impossible, just low) of it penetrating far inland.
