Snow watch.

While for many it is milder today, it will become colder again tomorrow. The main snow risk starts on Thursday where both GFS and ECM show a risk of snow in the south into the midlands and Wales, away from south eastern coastal counties. They both model a low moving in from the Azores, bumping into cold air.

GFS takes this right into northern England and parts of Scotland.

As always, early days and so there is lots of uncertainty. We await the next model run

That’s an interesting map.

hoochycrone · 15/01/2024 07:10

Thanks Rainbow 🥰

RainbowZebraWarrior · 15/01/2024 07:12

Looking at that radar, there's a lot of snow about this morning. Most of it (for the UK, anyway) only really seems to touch Scotland, parts of Ireland, and graze the East Coast of England.

Icing sugar type covering of 'something' here in Warrington, could be heavy frost, hail or even a sprinkling of snow!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/01/2024 07:30

Morning! I think it's a case of nowcasting this week. Some models are pushing snow back into the south on Wednesday...

Snow showers in Scotland, down the eastern coast and perhaps down the western coast today.

Snapshot of the current situation. The pink is snow not freezing rain. I do spy some snow showers in the Midlands and eastern Wales.

We have yet to have an ice warning issued locally but I've woken up to extremely thick ice with cars having to go slowly up my road which is an incline. Surprised to see that this morning. I hate defrosting the car! (SE, Herts).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/01/2024 07:41

Thanks RZW. I'd either forgotten about, or not seen that version before.

Met Office snow and ice warnings. I think it's a case of 'be prepared' this week. Some of those warnings popped up this morning.

Been looking at the weather in USA. the webcams give a snapshot. It's am extensive snow storm, power cuts for some. I shouldn't complain really.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 15/01/2024 10:35

Forecast showing -6 overnight Wednesday to Thursday now. I've decided that's not going to happen as it would mean walking to school in -3 which is colder than I can be bothered with so the forecast is just going to have to change.

GloriaSmud · 15/01/2024 11:10

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain ~ I like your way of thinking!

We had -2C here (Leicester) overnight. FosterDog decided, after stepping out on the frosty grass in the back garden, that a morning walk was out of the question so we're waiting another hour or two until it reaches the dizzy heights of 1C or possibly 2C, then might try for a walk then.

Plump82 · 15/01/2024 12:07

We had 8 hrs of snow forecast (apparently) from Monday night, it's now showing as 2 hrs from Tuesday morning. So we'll see. I'm lucky I work from home and I'm also on annual leave today and tomorrow so can just snuggle up on the sofa with the sun streaming in and staying cosy!!

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 15/01/2024 12:51

Im feeling particularly grumpy about the lack of snow forecast for my part of the SE. First it was predicted for wednesday now nothing at all 😥 DS has asked if we can move to scotland 🤣

RainbowZebraWarrior · 15/01/2024 13:00

We've got snow forecast for Tuesday, and a yellow warning of snow and ice from midnight into midday Wednesday. I have a hospital appt at 1pm so that could be fun! Low for Weds is forecast -5 so definite potential for skitey bits.

In the meantime, the sun is out, the sky is blue and there is pussy on my willow already. (Are they buds? Flowers? I'm never sure what they are classed as)

BiddyPop · 15/01/2024 13:25

We've had flurries of tiny snowflakes over the past few days in Brussels but nothing settling yet (but a few icy paths not properly salted in the mornings...).

I'm expecting a big enough snow day on Wednesday though - just when my furniture and goods arrive from home so running in and out from truck all morning!

Fabulous photo. I've needed sunglasses this morning to get to physio and do the shopping. Visors down in car too.

I think of them as catkins.

Bright and very cold here, but no snow in the forecast.

Pixiedust1234 · 15/01/2024 16:11

@Vegemiteandhoneyontoast growing up i was taught catkins are long and thin, aka lambs tails. Puffy and fluffy (and perfect for shoving your your nose aged 6 Blush) are called pussy willows.

I agree though, it's a lovely photo and a sign of nature stirring from its sleep. Although I've had to break the ice on the bird baths twice today brrrrrrr

Willmafrockfit · 15/01/2024 16:14

i just saw snow forecast for lunchtime onwards on wednesday, so that is annoying as i will already be at work!

hoochycrone · 15/01/2024 16:25

Look! Weather forecasts and Nature Notes ☺️ This is the best thread ⛄️🌿⛄️

Darkflame · 15/01/2024 18:32

Huge fingers crossed South Manchester gets snow! Would love a snow day with my son and Dog ❄️❄️❄️

Posypointshoes · 15/01/2024 20:32

I'm still sulking that it looks like Essex is going to miss it. It's saying -3 on Wednesday but bright sunny skies. No snowmen for us...I'm still holding out a tiny bit of hope though. The last few times we've had a decent amount it actually hasn't been forecast as such...

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 15/01/2024 20:42

-6 is still there. It's completely unacceptable, I'm in Leicester not Alaska, I want spring to arrive now please.

Snow watch.
