While for many it is milder today, it will become colder again tomorrow. The main snow risk starts on Thursday where both GFS and ECM show a risk of snow in the south into the midlands and Wales, away from south eastern coastal counties. They both model a low moving in from the Azores, bumping into cold air.

GFS takes this right into northern England and parts of Scotland.

As always, early days and so there is lots of uncertainty. We await the next model run

Ooh we've moved into a yellow zone for Tuesday! ❄️

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 14/01/2024 13:13

We also have snow back but as.... Sleet.

beenrumbled · 14/01/2024 13:42

I'm not as excited for snow in Manchester as I used to be after my encounter with the windermere lake effect snow event in December 😂

GloriaSmud · 14/01/2024 14:28

As yes beenrumbled, that's understandable after that experience!

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 14/01/2024 14:37

So now we've moved from a few hours of sleet to 2 hours of sleet and snow from 4pm until 11pm ❄️

leesmum · 14/01/2024 14:39

My birthday on Tuesday and it used to snow heavily pretty much every year as a kid (good 40+ years ago 🤣) I'm in north Manchester so I'll keep you all updated 🥶
Thanks @OhYouBadBadKitten and @GloriaSmud for all your updates and the time you put into this thread x

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2024 14:41

I feel that the Manchester snowshield if frequently breached. Grin

Whereas where I live, lying snow has become a genuine rarity. (Stamps feet)

We just dont know about snow on Wednesday in southern England at this point. I'm leaning towards it being a channel grazer, but thats just a guess really and I think the most likely scenario is that it will miss.

I've come to see the latest weather updates as my auto immune symptoms are off the charts and this usually only happens at times at great atmospheric changes such as high winds or extreme temp dropping. I'm in the E.Mids. Very surprised (and freaked) it's still no news 😳

Plump82 · 14/01/2024 16:02

West of Scotland, just in-between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Tiny flurries started about 30 mins ago and steadily getting heavier. It's been pretty dry and cold so it's settling already.

gingercat02 · 14/01/2024 16:08

We have just had a few moments of polystyrene snow. NE England coast.
I have to go 40 miles north tomorrow for work, so if snow could wait until 6ish tomorrow, that would be fab

CoffeeBeansGalore · 14/01/2024 16:15

Aberdeenshire. Flurries on & off all day. Less than an inch of lying snow atm. Ice going to be a big problem tomorrow.

It's even snowing in Newcastle City centre! We are just sitting on the metro replacement bus service, waiting to head back towards Whitley Bay. It's lying here as its bone dry and bitter cold!

RainbowZebraWarrior · 14/01/2024 16:47

I can't seem to find the weather radar site that I usually use. The one that shows snow clouds in pink.

Gloria or Kitten, can you point me in the right direction please?

Amazing. No snow here so far - London

I was really hopeful we'd have a couple of snow days this week! Local forecasts appear to be saying risk is receding. I'm in Hertfordshire. So disappointed ☹️

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2024 16:57

Do you mean WXCharts RZW? It isn't radar, but a graphical depiction of weather model output.

Sadly for southern snow lovers GFS has now come into line with other models and keeps snow out of southern England.

I'm not following the expert sites

But the sky in Essex looks very odd

And hey presto, one weather website is now saying possible snow showers tonight, which has come out of the blue. It didn't even say that around lunchtime.

justasking111 · 14/01/2024 17:21

Not a flake in N Wales, nor I've just been told in W Yorkshire yet. I need a new clutch so would like that done this week to be honest

SequentialAnalyst · 14/01/2024 17:24

A light powdering in Durham.

DrCoconut · 14/01/2024 17:32

I'm desperately hoping it doesn't snow. I have a family member quite ill in hospital and we need to be able to travel.

so many reasons to hate snow!

Bobsledgirl · 14/01/2024 17:48

The forecast is changing alot. We had snow then not, then we had it again and now it’s gone. Annoying.

BouleBaker · 14/01/2024 19:33

It does feel as though there gets a point when it stops being a forecast if it's changing every few minutes. I wonder if there is any data on whether weather has become more unpredictable over short time ranges.

Am just going to wait and see ! Have been caught out with snow a few times over last couple of years. Missed son’s graduation last December because sleet was forecast but we actually had a blizzard…was absolutely gutted missing it !
Have been stranded at work after 12 hour shift when again , snow not on the radar !
As long as it doesn’t snow overnight tonight I will be okay. Have a really sad funeral to go to tomorrow.

It's a suck it and see in this house, being coastal.

My mother could smell snow in the air decades before sophisticated meteorology systems existed. When weather was more predictable

But with higher ocean temperatures, El Nino and volcanic activity now and again it's a crap shoot. But there's a better chance of it in the winter 🤭
