While for many it is milder today, it will become colder again tomorrow. The main snow risk starts on Thursday where both GFS and ECM show a risk of snow in the south into the midlands and Wales, away from south eastern coastal counties. They both model a low moving in from the Azores, bumping into cold air.

GFS takes this right into northern England and parts of Scotland.

As always, early days and so there is lots of uncertainty. We await the next model run

Very cold wind in Reading, been very lightly snowing off and on for nearly 2 hours. Local meteorologist reckons we could get a bit of snow today.

Dogcatmousecat · 08/01/2024 14:28

Heavy snow Kent and East Sussex border. Not settling though.

Emma. I think it's the case that this thread won't be in trending, because it is too old. I can't remember whether the age limit for a thread is one month or two. It's one of the factors (among a few) in why I post less here nowadays. No matter how much work I put into a longstanding thread, it can't trend

Ooh actual flakes coming down here now in Marlow, Bucks. Very unusual - we’re normally too low. I doubt it will settle but I’m surprised.

GloriaSmud · 08/01/2024 14:33

As I expected, there's been nothing here (Leicester) although DD1 thought she saw some tiny flakes this morning and looking at the colour of the sky, we might see a flurry or two at some point today. 'Tis a cold 2C with a chilly wind.

hoochycrone · 08/01/2024 14:35

No, nothing here in West Yorkshire either 😢

sleepymouses · 08/01/2024 14:37

We just had a tiny bit of snow in Southampton but it went within two mins haha what a shame

Toomuch44 · 08/01/2024 14:51

North Gloucestershire - I saw a few snow flakes around noon, literally limited to just one street, but definitely snow - we're on the outskirts of the weather warning, so was surprised to see them.

LittleRebelGirl · 08/01/2024 15:10

@EmmaEmerald I saw this thread in active, and clicked on it 😊

BumbleNova · 08/01/2024 15:14

Surprising amount of snow here in Kent. Sort of settling and it feels like the temperature is dropping.

Isthisjustnormal · 08/01/2024 15:18

Few flurries in Surrey/SE Greater London but nothing settling. Pretty though! (nB thread popped up in active for me :-)

nannynick · 08/01/2024 15:31

Flurries on Surrey/Berkshire border. Not settling.

Looking at the SnowLay radar: https://www.metcheck.com/WEATHER/snowlayradar.asp it looks like it may lay in some parts of Kent.

SulisMinerva · 08/01/2024 15:40

Flurries in Surrey/West Sussex border. Not settling though.

bizzey · 08/01/2024 15:55

A bit of dandruff in SW London !

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/01/2024 15:57

I've had a few flakes, but nothing very much.

Friends are posting full on snow pics from 20 mins away from me . I am very jealous

Pixiedust1234 · 08/01/2024 16:18

No snow but my goodness it's so bitter outside. The freezing bones kind of cold.

Also saw a council wagon check up on the grit box at top of the road. Very unlike our council to be so proactive, wonder if Kitten has given them a call 😯😂

I suppose it's frowned upon to drive 20 mins into snow just to soak up the seasonal vibe?

Oh I see

i don't know how they differentiate between active and trending though.

i'm sure I've seen old threads get revived and come up on trending though!

eurochick · 08/01/2024 17:20

We had flurries here on the London/Surrey border. Not much settled though. The garden looks like it is dusted with icing sugar.

JustHereWithMyNewYear · 08/01/2024 17:32

We've had snow on and off since about 11am, it's very small snow flakes and not really settling, Bucks/Berks border.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 08/01/2024 17:56

Just looked out and there are teeny tiny flakes coming down. It probably won't come to much, but it's pretty to see.

Must check the grit bin at the top of our small cul de sac. It's on a hill so essential.

hoochycrone · 08/01/2024 18:01

I'll have you know, that the bbc weather site has given us one snowflake at midnight (W.Yorkshire) 🌨️ 🛷🌨️ tonight.

They give me hope, only to snatch it away 😔

justasking111 · 08/01/2024 18:09

My son is in W Yorkshire I'll tell him to keep his 👀 peeled 😂
