While for many it is milder today, it will become colder again tomorrow. The main snow risk starts on Thursday where both GFS and ECM show a risk of snow in the south into the midlands and Wales, away from south eastern coastal counties. They both model a low moving in from the Azores, bumping into cold air.

GFS takes this right into northern England and parts of Scotland.

As always, early days and so there is lots of uncertainty. We await the next model run

InMySpareTime ~ Yay ~ the shield is breached!

We've had freezing fog most of the day here (Leicester), it brightened up a little around lunchtime but the temperature's been stuck at -1C all day. Possibility of snow overnight ❄

Yes the fog has been delightful, could feel it like tiny ice crystals in the air brushing against your face as you walked around. DD is very excited about the possibility of snow and I'm trying to realistically downgrade her expectations without being a buzzkill 😂

Darkflame · 02/12/2023 16:48

Light snow/graupel falling in South Manchester/Trafford. Hope it turns to proper flakes soon!

beenrumbled · 02/12/2023 17:32

So the snow in windermere was heavier than forecast. Currently stuck on A592 and have been for 4 hours!

RedRobyn2021 · 02/12/2023 18:37

We had icey fog here too and all the snow has survived, the trees and hedges are white and its gorgeous. Hoping for more snow ⛄️

BlackeyedSusan · 02/12/2023 18:56

Freezing fog here in the WMIDS too. Traffic lights and fences looked like they had been decorated for Halloween.

justasking111 · 02/12/2023 21:11

Was raining here an hour ago which wasn't forecast so the mountain tops may be white in the morning. Son hasn't seen snow yet in Edinburgh. Tomorrow they're driving back to Leeds, looking more likely he'll encounter snow at home

wineandmaltesershappyme · 02/12/2023 22:58

Snow again here and forecast all night. Just outside York.

Snow watch.

So pretty. Friends in Yorkshire village had their annual Santa Run tonight. It was such a pretty scene

TheCumbrian · 02/12/2023 23:39

A major incident has now been declared in Cumbria, a county which is pretty used to snow. Its focus mostly around the south lakes and Millom areas but parts of the M6 at the other side of the county have been shut too.

a number of shelters have been set up for stranded motorists in the South Lakes

local reports of one fatality

footage suggests that abandoned cars are causing a lot of issues with getting the roads ploughed and gritted (for many they won't have had a choice - leave or freeze!)

Its the first major weather event since the demise of Cumbria County Council in April 2023. it's unclear at this stage if this has possibly had an impact on the logistics of getting gritters/ploughs to where they needed to be. The snow affects both of the new councils - Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council that replaced CCC.

obviously not helped by the sheer amount of snow generally and the fact it was an otherwise dry Saturday in the morning enticing lots of day trippers into the Lakes.

VERY snowy here (Midlands!) Put down about 2 inches so far. Very pretty, and making me feel very Christmassy! 🎄Grin Can't wait for morning to go out and take some photos of the snow. Took a few tonight but they'll be better in the day of course. Got some nice ones today of the frost covered trees ... Smile

You had better be in the W.Midlands because I don't want to see it near me...

Woke up to a dusting of snow in Manchester. I know it's nothing compared to the rest of the country, but it's good for here.

Snow watch.
GloriaSmud · 03/12/2023 07:13

We have a slight covering too (Leicester)

Snow watch.
beenrumbled · 03/12/2023 07:50

Managed to get back to Bowness and got last train from windermere to Lancaster. Found last room in a hotel at 1am. Currently considering options

DementedPanda · 03/12/2023 08:19

Lots of snow in se Northumberland and its still coming down

Poisoningpigeons · 03/12/2023 08:34

Any MNetters near Derby? What are the roads like?

We have a light covering of snow in W Yorks, roads all clear and (importantly) it's forecast to stay "dry" and warm up to 3C, looks like our snow will even melt during the day. So DH is thinking we should be able to make our trip today - our whole journey is on big roads.

RigorMortisRadio · 03/12/2023 09:05

Finally had some here, albeit about 1cm Grin Just south of Leeds.

I'm driving to Preston today and the M62 is apparently fine at the moment so hoping it stays that way.

I’m north Notts. We have loads a good few inches dropped overnight and we already had some on the ground.

gingercat02 · 03/12/2023 10:01

We have had another light covering overnight. It will be on top of a lot of ice, so the roads will be terrible.
I went to bed just after midnight, and everything was frozen solid, but no snow at that point

Janinejones · 03/12/2023 11:51

Racing at Leicester called off because of 2" snow.
Warmer here nr Oxford.

And from the other side, quite a lot last night in the Wales/Kiveton area just outside Sheffield

Whereabouts in Leicester? I'm right on city boundary and we have a smattering but definitely not even 1cm of coverage just a bit on cars and grass verges, all washed away now.

I posted that at 1am. At 4am I was woken by a neighbour doing wheel spins and lots of slamming car doors. Apparently it had snowed and he wanted his four cars and a van right outside his house. Originally thought it was his teenage son the way he was sliding and revving the car on the pavement but nope a grown man.

So yeah... Morning didn't keep her snow. Meanie.
