Spring Weather watch

Optimistically we turn our eyes towards Spring weather in the hope that we are in the last throes of winter. But March is a capricious month. ...

It looks like we've a fairly unsettled couple of weeks coming up overall, with plenty of showers and rain. I'm afraid wintry showers are still likely over northern hills for a time yet.

Water storage will be grateful for the rain and at least there's a chance of spectacular cumulus cloudscapes on showery days (as opposed to these grey gloomy days which frankly can sod off)

RafaistheKingofClay I was at the allotment yesterday and got sunburnt! I think there'll be major amounts of watering going on this week looking at the forecast.

justasking111 · 22/05/2023 14:14

Cloudy this morning now burnt off in the west. Be sure to water plants where and whenever needed

EmmaEmerald · 22/05/2023 14:27

Kitten "It does look like we have nice settled weather to come. A bit of a caveat for those in the east. The weather looks to be dominated by high pressure out over the atlantic. This can at times allow cloud to push in from the north sea, ruining perfectly nice days."

not much sun forecast for London/Essex border.

RampantIvy · 22/05/2023 15:02

Sunny here in Yorkshire just for a change.

I’ve forgotten to put the sun cream in my bag which is always helpful if you are fair skinned in the SW. Had to walk to the slightly further away but shaded bus stop using the shady side of the road because sitting in the sun for half an hour between 11 and 3 with out sun cream rarely ends well for me.

RafaistheKingofClay · 22/05/2023 15:18

There’s some very very red tourists getting on this bus. They may have underestimated the strength of the sun down here. Ouch!

justasking111 · 22/05/2023 17:10

Ouch indeed. An hour in the garden yesterday and I sought the shade

YouveGotToGrooveIt · 22/05/2023 19:55

Finally! The sun is here, the sun is here, the sun is here.

Things will grow and flower and ripen. Birds will raise chicks. Dogs walks will be clean and dry. And I will sit outside for my morning coffees.

Happy days!

EmmaEmerald · 22/05/2023 20:23

Don't come to the London/Essex borders if you want some brightness. We we were told sunny and 18 today. Nowhere near 18, windy and about two hours of sun.

BouleBaker · 23/05/2023 09:51

Settled sounds good. Fingers crossed as I have just cancelled the Beaver Scout hut booking this week so they will be outside no matter what!

EmmaEmerald · 23/05/2023 18:33

We actualky had a nice day from about 2pm, yay!

You've put this perfectly! @YouveGotToGrooveIt

I imagined you doing a little sun dance there too 😂

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/05/2023 10:27

This weather is making me so happy. Spending every spare second I can working in the garden, trying to make it less tatty.
I think we might see a bit of a dip in temperatures on Monday in the south. Which is a little mean of it.

It’s so glorious

Really a game changer

TokyoSushi · 24/05/2023 11:34

Glorious but quite windy here in Cheshire, I am running out of things to wash!

InMySpareTime · 24/05/2023 11:37

DD helpfully brought round a load of stuff to wash as she's trying to catch up a massive backlog of self-care and sort her life out. 3 loads washed this morning, 1.5 of which are already dry. At this rate I'll have it all dry and folded by the time she wakes up (mid afternoon).

I'm trying not to run out washing line my decking rail is bedecked in sheets and duvet covers. Son home next weekend so will strip his bed too.

TheOnlyMrsW · 24/05/2023 12:19

Gorgeous here all week so far, just a little breeze today..........hoping it carries on into the weekend and the East Midlands, first festival of the summer and it's just sooooo much nicer if it's dry!!!!!

GloriaSmud · 24/05/2023 14:31

Lovely here (Leicester) too and just had another roasting at the allotment - I always forget how much sun my two plots get!

RampantIvy · 24/05/2023 18:26

We have had 23 degrees today (yay).

On another thread the summer haters are already whinging about temperatures over 16 degrees, and wishing for grey and rain. Don't they ever dry washing outside?

Furries · 24/05/2023 19:27

It’s been lovely here most of the day - North East Essex.

Typically, it fell on the day that I’d agreed to help my mum make a start on clearing stuff from the house ready for a potential move.

Ugh, I always try to avoid those threads!

I should point out 20/22 is about my limit. Anything more than that is too hot in my opinion. Grin

I remember Leicestershire in the heatwave of 2019. Far too hot and no sea breeze.
