Spring Weather watch

Optimistically we turn our eyes towards Spring weather in the hope that we are in the last throes of winter. But March is a capricious month. ...

It looks like we've a fairly unsettled couple of weeks coming up overall, with plenty of showers and rain. I'm afraid wintry showers are still likely over northern hills for a time yet.

Water storage will be grateful for the rain and at least there's a chance of spectacular cumulus cloudscapes on showery days (as opposed to these grey gloomy days which frankly can sod off)

21c today thought buggrit and sunbathed with my kindle all afternoon.

My uber heavy bedspread I washed this morning is dry though. Woohoo 🙌

How lucky! It was meant to be 18 today, I knew it wouldn't be. I think we've got a longer range forecast of 10 for another couple of weeks. Pants.

EmmaEmerald · 13/05/2023 19:24

I've put the heating on.

beenrumbled · 13/05/2023 19:48

It was cold enough overnight for the heating to come on first thing but it's been a lovely warm sunny day in Manchester.

Bedding washed and dried on the washing line. And brought in just in time to avoid all the barbecue fumes!

justasking111 · 13/05/2023 20:09

The West and north west of the UK are certainly faring better. DS in N Yorkshire is envious.

EmmaEmerald · 13/05/2023 20:32

I can actually go away for a couple of days next week if the railways are okay

whereabouts has sun? I love Wales!

TheOnlyMrsW · 14/05/2023 16:36

Been away to visit family in London this weekend, barely into double figures there and beautiful back home 🤦🤦🤦. Nearly 20 degrees and gorgeous sunshine!!!!
What are thoughts about the long range forecast for the last bank holiday week?! We're already off for half term and tempted to book a break away - options are London again or Ibiza, similar costs, similar travel time of you factor in door to door transport from where we are........if I knew it would at least be warm and dry I'd 100% pick the UK but no idea!!!!

RampantIvy · 14/05/2023 17:24

Was 20 degrees in Newcastle when I left early afternoon today. Nice in Yorkshire as well.

justasking111 · 14/05/2023 17:45

Cold again in Wales brrr.

Saw a headline about an African plume which means we'll get a heatwave again. 35c the met office say it's too early to tell.

In other news The price of the Aircon portable I looked at last year has doubled 😱

justasking111 · 14/05/2023 17:54

Kiev a balmy 24c. Moscow 17c. France it's bleugh and friends on the Costa Brava had sun on their last day after a week of rain and storms 😞

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/05/2023 09:18

Generally as we go forward through the rest of the month, we have an improving outlook. High pressure looks to build, blocking the mobile weather pattern we've been seeing and allowing warmer air to establish. Eastern areas might see the same sort of pattern as they saw on Saturday though, with low cloud coming in at times off the north sea.

Not a high summer picture, but a generally pretty pleasant one.

Started off nice this morning in Gloucestershire, thick rain clouds gathering now - just in time for my dog walk 🙄

EmmaEmerald · 15/05/2023 15:02

Still a shit weather forecast for the week ahead

I cannot believe I left my boiling hot flat, what timing. Hopefully it will balance out cost wise and I won't need to use the air con unit here - not that there's any risk of that at the moment.

EmmaEmerald · 15/05/2023 15:46

Does anyone/anywhere in England actually have sun and say, 20 degrees forecast this week? I'm finishing up a project tomorrow and can go away this week.

justasking111 · 15/05/2023 15:54

14c and sunny n Wales today. No sign of it warming up though.

justasking111 · 15/05/2023 19:08

You're all going to be warmer this week bar us North Wales lot according to our BBC Wales weather man Derek Brockway. Why it's down to polar maritime air. Not an expression I've heard before. Whatever, it's going to hold us back. The rest of you don't forget the sunscreen. 😂😂

stillherenow · 15/05/2023 20:13

Well DD got sunburnt today and I bought a fan. Weather atm is perfect for me, no hotter and no colder please…

I can't see anywhere in England needing sunscreen this week?

LittleFreakJezebel · 15/05/2023 20:33

Leeds is forecasted 20 over the weekend but they can't seem to decide if the sun will appear or not!

WhatCanWeDoNext · 15/05/2023 20:38

North Derbyshire/Peak District not forecast to be above 16 till next weekend and no real sun forecast either. Maybe a bit between clouds.
Been chilly today because of the wind. Great for drying the washing though.

RafaistheKingofClay · 15/05/2023 21:11

17 down here with some sunny spells but also a lot of cloud.

Don’t forget your sunscreen even if it’s cool. UV is to do with time of year and not temperature. (Although you do need some actual sun)

I’d like more sun this week while I’m still off work.

stillherenow · 16/05/2023 07:14

Yes dd will be smothered in it today ! Her burn was quite bad yesterday , she’s a teenager but I still feel guilty.

MissyB1 · 16/05/2023 07:34

Actually predicted dry all week here and warming up as the week goes on, we shall see!

EmmaEmerald · 16/05/2023 07:48

But where is this happening? i'm so confused.

LittleFreakJezebel · 16/05/2023 08:24

@EmmaEmerald I'm in the NW and it was wall to wall sunshine yesterday, about 16 but that was because it was really windy which cooled it down, definitely would have got burnt if you had no cream on though.

This was the forecast on Look North yesterday evening. Predicted high by Saturday is only 20 degrees, but I'll take that over what we have been having.
