Spring Weather watch

Optimistically we turn our eyes towards Spring weather in the hope that we are in the last throes of winter. But March is a capricious month. ...

It looks like we've a fairly unsettled couple of weeks coming up overall, with plenty of showers and rain. I'm afraid wintry showers are still likely over northern hills for a time yet.

Water storage will be grateful for the rain and at least there's a chance of spectacular cumulus cloudscapes on showery days (as opposed to these grey gloomy days which frankly can sod off)

Really lovely to see the garden and area flourish in this weather

I hope the rain is topping up against hose pipe bans later on

SunnyEgg · 11/05/2023 13:39

Just read back about cold and wet annoyances

I do hope some water is being preserved though

WhatCanWeDoNext · 11/05/2023 13:53

For reasons that even I can’t remember now, I always keep my receipts for 12 months. Having just scanned through last May’s to make sure no warranty receipts need to be kept, I can tell you that this time last year I was buying boxes and boxes of ice lollies.
In unrelated news, I’ve just put my jumper back on.

justasking111 · 11/05/2023 14:22

OH turned off the heating on 1st May. He also dug out his shorts. He thinks I'm weird to be using a rug at night on the sofa. The fact that he's had to throw away the first lot of seedlings and the second lot are straggly he insisted is down to the peat 🙄

Our reservoirs are full up to the brim and the water is pouring over the overflows. I live in reservoir country on the edge of the Pennines. We really suffered with drought last year. All the submerged buildings and ruins were well above the water line at Ladybower in October, but now it is completely full and the big plug hole is flowing again.

This morning, when the washing machine finished my ap said rain from around 12.30 so I put it in the dryer. At lunchtime it said from 3. Still OK as I'm working so wouldn't be able to grab it in. Now it's saying from 6 so I could have put it on the line 😠

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/05/2023 16:39

Must have been colder this morning. Forgot I hadn’t properly turned the heating off it just hadn’t been coming on because it wasn’t cold enough.

was a bit of a surprise when it came on at 7 this morning.

justasking111 · 11/05/2023 17:25

Had a few spots big fat raindrops at lunchtime, then during school pick up but otherwise lots of 🌞🌞🌞

tailinthejam · 11/05/2023 17:30

I've seen a funnel cloud this afternoon (Bedfordshire). It was really quite dramatic and I wish I'd thought to take a photo. Doh.

RampantIvy · 11/05/2023 21:06

Loads of rain here today.

Notonthestairs · 11/05/2023 21:13

Despite a very gloomy forecast for today we had sunshine until 7pm when the heavens well & truly opened. Herts.

That must have been quite a sight. I'm very jealous!

My friend lives on a hill above the sea and watched one once it didn't come ashore though.

Our home a hamlet 600 metres above sea level. Christmas eve 1997 it's thought one swept through the village. Our conservatory torn off the house landing 20 feet down the garden, neighbours shed lifted over a 10 foot hedge landed perfectly sound in the lane. Trees torn out. One took off and spear like went through a bathroom window. In the morning light the devastation was incredible. No electricity in some areas for ten days . In Anglesey three weeks I think. They say a tornado 🌪️🌪️ must have touched down here and there but in the dark who could tell. The farmers were fantastic everyone rallied around.

WhatCanWeDoNext · 13/05/2023 00:26

Seems really cold here this evening. Weather app showing warmer this weekend 🤞🤞
My seedlings all seem to have stalled at the moment.

CosmosQueen · 13/05/2023 06:10

Chilly start here in north Wiltshire, hoping it will warm up here today as want to sit outside on my new patio without a fleece on. Going to risk putting tomato plants outside in pots I think.
Any chance of consistently warm weather do you think?

justasking111 · 13/05/2023 08:24

Our seedlings after careful nurturing in the conservatory, transferred to green house up and died so planted another lot. The second lot bought as plugs are now in the green house. This is the first year they haven't been transferred to baskets yet. It's still cold at night.

I sat out for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon. Twas lovely. The downside sinus pain last night, running nose and now that ticklish cough. I take piriton because of the dogs. Thinking of doubling up. Logically I suppose we're going to have a pollen explosion with the delayed warmer weather.

planning a bbq this afternoon, sorry folks that will jinx the weather for us all!

RampantIvy · 13/05/2023 08:50

We had 11 degrees and wall to wall cloud yesterday.

All my summer dresses are hanging in the wardrobe, not having been worn since last August.

At least we aren't getting the "I hate summer" whingers on MN complaining because it is 18 degrees.

It is currently 7 degrees and the forecast for the next 7 days goes like this:

Today 16 deg
Sunday 17 deg
Monday 10 deg
Tuesday 14 deg
Wednesday 13 deg
Thursday 15 deg
Friday 14 deg

Sad

I was in M and S yesterday buying more jumpers and the sales staff were saying that they don't usually sell as many jumpers at this time of year as they are doing right now.

Also north wilts and also waiting for the promised sun.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 13/05/2023 10:40

SE London borders here. It’s been so wet and also quite cold yesterday yet a week ago it was tshirt and jeans warmer sunnier weather!

I don’t know what to wear day to day in case it’s colder and that’s factoring in rain too. Tomorrow will be 18 degrees I think.

RampantIvy · 13/05/2023 12:50

Currently in Newcastle. Sun is shining - yay!
Still chilly, but the sun is very welcome.

This is what we were told about today though - London/Essex border.

justasking111 · 13/05/2023 17:39

21c today thought buggrit and sunbathed with my kindle all afternoon.

justasking111 · 13/05/2023 17:42
