Optimistically we turn our eyes towards Spring weather in the hope that we are in the last throes of winter. But March is a capricious month. ...

It looks like we've a fairly unsettled couple of weeks coming up overall, with plenty of showers and rain. I'm afraid wintry showers are still likely over northern hills for a time yet.

Water storage will be grateful for the rain and at least there's a chance of spectacular cumulus cloudscapes on showery days (as opposed to these grey gloomy days which frankly can sod off)

We've had thunder, lightning and hail here. FosterDog went out in our sheltered alleyway, took one look at the hailstones falling in the back garden and has retreated back to the sofa!

Drove from Llandudno to Wrexham this morning. It was dull went to the hospital and then Grosvenor garden centre. Had a good womble round then lunch. Just as we got to the checkouts the heavens opened torrential rain battered the barn running rivers in the car park. Then a lull so we made a dash for it. You've guessed it more torrential rain we got soaked to the skin as did our shopping. My big bathroom mat saturated as well.

Son phones glorious sunshine back in Llandudno whereas we were driving in torrential conditions until just before prestatyn. It's gorgeous here weather station in garden says 18c. Massive bathroom mat on the decking drying out 😂😂

Is there a live rain map or is that not a thing?

I have been so lucky, two meetings, home, now it's starting.

That first map had us under blue rain, but we've had barely a drop here. Washing still drying on the line.

Pixiedust1234 · 09/05/2023 16:11

I've had several torrential downpours today, coupled with some grumbly thunder. Wasn't sure whether it was DHs tummy or outside 😂

Blue rain in my experience is chance of showers all down to the topography here in Wales

Thanks, for some reason I thought that was specific to Wales!

I've been very cross today - weather app showed rain all day when I looked last night so didn't put the washer on. Yep - dry all day and glorious sunshine from lunchtime in East Lancs 😡

That's so annoying 😐

RafaistheKingofClay · 09/05/2023 19:41

I think we must have had all your rain @TheOnlyMrsW. Flash floods all over the place here. Tomorrow and Thursday looking slightly less wet fortunately.

RampantIvy · 09/05/2023 19:47

Still dry and sunny here in South Yorkshire.

whoruntheworldgirls · 09/05/2023 20:15

I'm just outside York and had a big storm, lots of plant flattening hail, thunder and lightning. Very impressive when i wasn't worrying about my squashed flowers/drains potentially overflowing

whoruntheworldgirls · 09/05/2023 20:16

It looks as though its been a rather dramatic day for many today, with flash flooding, especially in Devon and hail, lightning and funnel clouds.

I got sunburnt digging and laying turf this afternoon.

RafaistheKingofClay · 09/05/2023 21:49

Both the villages downstream from here are flooded as the river has burst its banks. Haven’t seen what it looks like here but hopefully am far enough uphill from the river it shouldn’t be an issue.

The government emergency thing being active might have been useful.

RampantIvy · 09/05/2023 21:51

Where has it been flooded? No rain at all here today - unusually.

Oh no, hope everything is ok with the flooding 🤞

RafaistheKingofClay · 09/05/2023 22:00

Devon. Combination of flooding just from the rain itself which is what the fire brigade were pumping off the road coming out of the city and rivers bursting banks here.

They could probably do with pumping it to the bit that has a hosepipe ban. Although it may not be very clean given what SWW has been putting in the rivers.

TheFormidableMrsC · 09/05/2023 22:11

I'm in North Herts and have never seen the sort of flooding we experienced today. The roads looked like fast running rivers. I am absolutely gutted as I spent the whole weekend clearing my garden, laying topsoil and seeding it. It's destroyed today. My garden is a swimming pool. I am so upset 🥺

RampantIvy · 09/05/2023 22:14

Goodness, I had no idea it had been so bad. I hope the damage isn't too bad for those affected.
