Optimistically we turn our eyes towards Spring weather in the hope that we are in the last throes of winter. But March is a capricious month. ...

It looks like we've a fairly unsettled couple of weeks coming up overall, with plenty of showers and rain. I'm afraid wintry showers are still likely over northern hills for a time yet.

Water storage will be grateful for the rain and at least there's a chance of spectacular cumulus cloudscapes on showery days (as opposed to these grey gloomy days which frankly can sod off)

Thanks Kitten
I have so many errands to run and they're essential. Today would have been much better!

RampantIvy · 08/05/2023 09:31

This week's weather forecast Sad
What's happened to spring?

We have had just one day this year so far where the temperature peaked at over 20 degrees.

The sailors we know mutter and moan that the Azores high hasn't arrived. Look at the weather squatting below us. NYC isn't warm either you've got to go as far south as Spain to warm your bones

At least I got a load of planting done in my garden yesterday, put in 3 new rose bushes, a hydrangea, and did all the patio pots. They are getting a soaking today!

Im utterly pissed off with walking the dog in the rain again though 😩

duvetcovereddissident · 08/05/2023 22:47

@OhYouBadBadKitten

any clues about what might happen tomorrow please? The news has reported possible storms?

tobee · 08/05/2023 23:19

God the bbc weather forecast for London is rain for the next 2 weeks.

Pouring outside.

TrombonesAreNotBones · 08/05/2023 23:27

It is quite dismal-mood inducing.

I hope everyone had a great Coronation weekend.

justasking111 · 08/05/2023 23:29

I can see a lot of people googling Tui etc to get away from this swampy May weather

My dog is refusing walks in the rain now - he stands in the back of the car considering the weather before agreeing to get out - he’s had enough !

I don’t blame him we all have 😩

stillherenow · 09/05/2023 08:07

My French beans are so tall now I need to plant them out, they’re in their pots on the patio at the moment, I may have to bring them in if we get the forecasted hail today!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/05/2023 08:32

@duvetcovereddissident yes, some potential for some pretty decent thunderstorms today in the south and midlands. Torrential rain, hail and lightning all possible.

I thought Id dealt with slugs using nematodes, only to find an invasion of snails had eaten every single seedling.

We have a rescue from Spain. He has very firm views on appropriate weather.

EmmaEmerald · 09/05/2023 08:36

I got lucky yesterday and did all my errands before the rainToday it will be impossible to avoid, two meetings but will be quicker to walk than Tube and I particularly hate the Tube when it's raining!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/05/2023 08:36

It should still be less showery in the south towards the end of this week, but overall the outlook is for changeable weather.

I've got beer traps out for my slugs now as well as slug friendly slug pellets.
I didn't want to have to kill them all but I wanted some veg and sunflowers this year.

Think I'm going to turn my horses away for a fortnight (leave them out in a field without riding them). It's just too exhausting trying to ride them and keep them fit in this weather.

megletthesecond · 09/05/2023 11:47

Greyest spring in 40 years apparently.

GloriaSmud · 09/05/2023 11:49

It has been pretty dismal, meglet

RafaistheKingofClay · 09/05/2023 14:00

well that was not a shower? Short and very sharp. Everything is flooded and the fire brigade are pumping out the road at the bottom of the hill. Might have to check the violas a put out side are still standing. They shouldn’t need watering for a while anyway. 😂

I have a feeling this afternoon’s walk won’t be happening! He has a glorious raincoat too with a toggle hood and everything !
