This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

edit. On reflection, I think UKV is the least likely scenario, it feels a little too north based for me compared to the other solutions.

Thank you @OhYouBadBadKitten we're a couple of miles inland from the Bristol Channel so will keep an eager eye out today and tomorrow for warnings and updates and clear the garden.

snowstorm2012 · 16/02/2022 10:54

Thank you for this. I live in South Bucks and our warning has literally just been upgraded to amber.

Will keep an eye on this thread too 👍🏼

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2022 11:04

I suspect that a red warning will be issued for an area encompassing the Bristol region tomorrow unless the models back down.

Cross post!

I’m down Cardiff way, I’d better go and tidy up the garden on my lunch break. Thanks for the updates OYBBK!

TheNinthLock · 16/02/2022 11:10

In the south east and have been upgraded to amber. Am genuinely terrified.

We live backing in to canal side lined with very tall, old trees, which have not been well maintained (not our trees so can’t touch them)
Dd is supposed to be in a train from Bournemouth to London around Friday noon. What are the chances train will be cancelled?
We keep dpony on a lovely yard but with old buildings and old fencing, and surrounded by ancient, tall oak trees.
Am genuinely scared. Really scared.

Wagsandclaws · 16/02/2022 11:11

I've been watching the models on Netweather.

69 mph now at midday tomorrow which is the most I've ever seen since moved to the Mendips.

We are high on a hill so likely to be more than that as the forecast is for our nearest town.

I do a 50 min school journey each way twice a day into Wiltshire from Somerset and usually go a back way but will avoid tomorrow on the back of this as trees will almost certainly be down.

Runwayqueen · 16/02/2022 11:14

I'm coastal Devon based and have to travel for work (aviation) on Friday, it's going to be an interesting day. I can't help wonder if we'll see a Red warning issued.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2022 11:22

I suspect the rail network might be shut down Thursday night across the region.

snowstorm2012 · 16/02/2022 11:25

I wonder if it'll go to red in the south-east/London area.

Thanks to whoever mentioned Net Weather, I've been reading the chat forum on it 👍🏼

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2022 11:30

I don't know if it will be red for the London area. As they are impact warnings, not wind speed warnings, there would be a lower threshold for a red warning in densely populated areas that there would be out in the countryside for example.

Jobs for me today/tomorrow:

Put bins in garage
Remove compost bin lid and put in garage.
Remove washing line
Remove anything else that might fly off.
Get power cut kit down from loft. I don't want to be opening the hatch if we lose power when winds are very severe.
Charge everything up.
Check elderly neighbours are aware and prepared.

Have got to drive to Brighton on Friday to collect granddaughter…I live about thirty miles away….am really not sure if it will be safe!
What would you lovely wise people think ?

MermaidEyes · 16/02/2022 11:40

Thanks for the updates. My local forecast reckons 65mph winds during the day....I sincerely hope that changes.

colouringindoors · 16/02/2022 11:43

Hmmm my drive North on Friday is not looking fun 🙄 will have to leave as early as poss and take my time I think

FlowerTink · 16/02/2022 12:17

Thank you for the thread and all your knowledge! :) South here and will be following.

EmmaH2022 · 16/02/2022 12:21

Thank you

London based
Looks like I better secure mum's garden tomorrow morning when I'll be there...hopefully not too late.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2022 12:21

People planning on travelling in the amber warning area, please think very carefully about it.

I need to ring the hospital and see what they say. Fuck. Postponed it once due to being in the middle of a two week pathway group of appointments. (Benign, thank God)

Notonthestairs · 16/02/2022 12:34

We've cancelled our trip in to London and I'm off to get twine for my plants. I'm going to write a list of jobs todo for tomorrow and make sure I've charged everything that can be charged!

Hoolihan · 16/02/2022 12:35

How amazing to have a Mumsnet resident expert - thank you for the info so far. Following with interest (and trepidation!).

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 16/02/2022 12:39

Don't think I've ever seen a forecast for Leicester with 69mph gusts. We usually top out in the high 40s.
