Gosh you have a dim view of the intelligence, education and careers of people who post on mn nenesmum. How do you have such insight into each of our lives and experience?

MerryChristmas21 · 01/01/2022 20:58

@logsonlogsoff

‘Why on Earth are people 'freaking out'?

We live on a living planet, temperatures change. Nothing to feel 'weird' or 'freaked out' by.’

My MIL is like this - because she’s scared. Scared of what’s to come and overwhelmed by the fact it seems we are powerless.
She swings between - it’s all fine, natural and oh, the scientists will come up solutions.
She drives a SUV, barely recycles, drinks bottled
Water only, Refuses to use re-usable bags for grocery shopping…
In my experience the people who deny climate change are actually just overwhelmed and scared

Nice snidey post.

I'm not your MIL, I'm not scared about the planet or overwhelmed.Nor do I do as she does or doesn't. So feck off with your assumptions.

I just don't see how people posting about 'being worried' & 'freaking out' are hoping to achieve. They're not actually doing anything except panicking.

Pointless flapping.

LondonWolf · 01/01/2022 20:59

🤔 the obnoxious, sneery, berating and rudeness that people on MN feel entitled to display when discussing certain topics - climate change being one of them - is really quite something.

MarshaBradyo · 01/01/2022 20:59

@Nenemum

Look, there’s two camps on this issue. Both camp is laughing at the other’s lack of insight/education. You’re as bad as eachother.

None of you here are environmental scientists (or cosmologists or meteorologists for that matter, equally relevant).

So everything you read on boards like this one are just ultimately unadulterated and worthless opinions, expressed for entertainment value only, padding out the algorithm that keeps websites like this generating clicks for advertiser cash. That’s all normal.

Unless you’re one of the scientific disciplines mentioned above, in which case, show your credentials and put everyone here to rights.

But a mummy chat forum isn’t the place for hard scientific facts.....you’re all in the wrong part of the internet if you really care about this stuff, rather than casting a flippant comment with your tea and cake.

Oh dear at sexism
katkitty · 01/01/2022 20:59

For me I had storms all day and night

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/01/2022 21:00

I'm not even sure why you are invoking 'cosmologists'. The formation of the universe has little to do with climate.

Brigante9 · 01/01/2022 21:01

I have spring flowers trying to push up.
It’s too warm to sleep.
The puppy has been sleeping on the tiles.
Way too hot for a coat in the car.

Climate change.
When will people/governments wake up?
When will everyone starting voting in governments who will act on climate change and not just do green washing rubbish.
Covid is a drop in the ocean to climate change. CC is already manifesting itself in catastrophic events around the world.
Devastating.

How do you know what people do for work?

You do realise mothers can still have jobs don’t you.. and not everyone here has dc anyway

Why so backward thinking?

Nenemum · 01/01/2022 21:03

@OhYouBadBadKitten it’s an area that illustrates a timeline in context with the comment that the earth is still very young, in that temperature fluctuations are normal and not indicative of ‘the end of the world’.

VaccineSticker · 01/01/2022 21:04

@Nenemum your name should come with a climate change denier alert badge.
You’re welcome.

TheVolturi · 01/01/2022 21:05

@Cocoabutterformula

Yes, I've posted twice about this today.

Very concerning, definitely keeps me awake at night

Those of us that are concerned though keep getting told we are crazy on the other thread though 😂
oatmilk4breakfast · 01/01/2022 21:05

@nememum you are so wrong on this (not to mention incredibly patronising). We’re past the need to prove scientific facts on this issue so we don’t need to ‘prove’ our credentials to be able to have a view on this. (Although as it happens I’ve worked with CEH (centre forward ecology and hydrology) NERC and CCC - go check out their websites for a while). We know enough. What the scientists have been telling us is that one of the huge ways we can make a difference is to find ways to talk about it and make it an issue that Governments have to act on. We’re not arguing that our kids’ futures look like something out of Thé Day After Tomorrow. Much more likely initial impacts of climate change are political and social unrest as resources get scarcer and food insecurity, flooding, more extreme weather events that cost the economy millions and on and on and on…

It will be back to normal and you can go back to moaning its too cold on Tuesday.

Its just a warm area blocked by cold, bit like when you get warm patches in a pool.

Wow. Funnily enough you can be a mother and have qualifications these days. Who'd have thought it. Think you'd better make your way to the incel's corner of the internet, you'd get a warm welcome.

macon · 01/01/2022 21:08

Apparently it was the same temperature on NYD 100 years ago. I think it's just "weather", rather than anything sinister.

How on earth do you know what careers people on here have? We're not just a load of housewives and mums Hmm

Christinatherabbit · 01/01/2022 21:08

@Benjispruce5

Not that warm here in U.K.. I still walked the dog in a jumper and coat albeit in done. I’m central.
I am in the south east and needed to take jumper off to a t shirt dog walking earlier I hadn't even bothered with a coat. Children wore hoody/jumpers. It's been ridiculously warm here!
Postdatedpandemic · 01/01/2022 21:09

I'm sure the Earth will survive just fine without us humans. But most mums would like the planet to remain liveable on for their DC and GC.

ArabellaScott · 01/01/2022 21:09

Yes I need an explanation

Looks at PhD... Looks at CV...
... Did I dream the last 15 years of my life, then? Yawn...
I worked on atmospheric modelling at Imperial College as a post-doc, does that count?

oatmilk4breakfast · 01/01/2022 21:10

Sorry for typos - that should be Centre For Ecology and Hydrology.
