Weather warnings for Sunday

Nasty low developing overnight tomorrow, giving some difficult conditions over Sunday for the southern half of England.

met office warnings which they say may be upgraded ( and I think they will looking at the models)

Unusually the storm will be moving from east to west with winds being north easterly- Easterly (again, relatively unusual) gusting to over 50 mph in the sw. Very heavy rain will be associated with this with high totals. Flooding is likely in places.

Please pay attention to latest met office earnings and if you are in a flood zone, the environment agency. Not a day to be out on the moors.

Will update tomorrow.

Your rainfall amount certainly sounds close underwater :)

I started with a similar station ( but without an anemometer) we mount the anemometer off a tall tv antenna mast. Our chimney sweep put it up for us. It gets a little wobble but it seems ok.

We haven't got an aerial either. There's still developers flags up, maybe I should appropriate one of their flag poles?!

Splendid idea!!!

Jeez where are you all? What horrid weather. We had a picnic on the beach and had the bouncy castle up.
I had to put factor 50 suncream on ds.
North Scotland here. So maybe just a mild day to you lot!!

very Envy purplehonesty.

Its chucking it down here, just heard that roads are flooded so i may be stuck in tomorrow. It is getting warmer though (just not dry).

Ponders · 29/04/2012 22:10

don't fret, purplehonesty, you'll be getting it tomorrow Grin

Sposh · 29/04/2012 22:13

Bloody hell. Now I want a weather station Envy

See what MN does to me? tsk.

Can I even have a weather station in a small walled garden with no cross winds? There are open weather allotments over the road but I couldn't guarantee that anything I set up there wouldn't die a death by the hand of the same people who steal vegetables.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 29/04/2012 22:18

Sposh, if you accept that theres no way you'll get accurate wind speeds then yes, no problem :) you won't get readings that reflect official readings, but you'll get readings that show your own local conditions. Make sure you get one with a decent sun shield. Can probably recommend some if you like? ( but not tonight as nearly bed time - might be worth starting a new thread in the weather section for it)

you could put it on a stick raised above the walls, sposh?

I have a backyard like that. normal wind passes us by (it's balmy in the spring but gets v hot on sunny days in the summer) but yesterday even we got the wind & 2 loads of washing dried in no time, with no creases, I was delighted Grin

Ponders · 29/04/2012 22:23

when I was at school (a century or so ago) we had a weather station in the garden, inside one of those white louvred beehivey things on long legs. we used to have to take it in turns to go & get readings when we were young enough to want to (1st form probably)

one of those would be good, on legs long enough to poke up above the walls?

Ponders · 29/04/2012 22:25

oh, it has a name!

that's what you want, Sposh Smile

Ponders · 29/04/2012 22:26

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 29/04/2012 22:28
