Weather warnings for Sunday

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 27/04/2012 22:55

Nasty low developing overnight tomorrow, giving some difficult conditions over Sunday for the southern half of England.

met office warnings which they say may be upgraded ( and I think they will looking at the models)

Unusually the storm will be moving from east to west with winds being north easterly- Easterly (again, relatively unusual) gusting to over 50 mph in the sw. Very heavy rain will be associated with this with high totals. Flooding is likely in places.

Please pay attention to latest met office earnings and if you are in a flood zone, the environment agency. Not a day to be out on the moors.

Will update tomorrow.

We're in southwold on holida and I've moved bedrooms as the wind is so loud! It's blowing from land onto sea (roughly) - there's nothing between us and the sea so a bit er worrying! Seemed like a good idea when we booked Grin

UnderwaterBasketWeaving · 29/04/2012 07:07

North Dartmoor current conditions:

989.2 hPa
7.8ml rain in last 24hrs
4.5mph wind
Currently 2.9C

Peaked at about 12mph winds around 3 am apparently.

We have a tree down here in Oxfordshire and DDs playhouse has a window through.

It's still blowing a gale here and I've been out to move my car which was parked under a decidedly shakey old tree. Got soaked doing so, DD thought it was hilarious me running back up the road in my dressing gown and slippers!

very windy and wet here in northamptonshire. the dog got herself tangled round the water butt tap on her long leash this morning and i made poor ds(5) go out with wellies and raincoat over his pj's to untangle her with the bribe of biscuits Grin am thinking we won't be going to football practice this morning!

sairygamp · 29/04/2012 08:31

ds and his friend have gone to Thorpe park today!! What's it looking like there?? I think hey are insane - Oldest dd is driving them down from Cambridge and I am a bit worried :(

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/04/2012 08:33

I'm not so far from Thorpe Park. It is very rainy but the wind seems to have eased off, I bet they go on the water rides too Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/04/2012 08:35

Had a text from DD on her Surrey hills school camping trip at about half twelve last night, saying it was immensely wet but she was having such fun...

sairygamp · 29/04/2012 08:46

They are bonkers!!!! Thanks for that.

Sparklingbrook · 29/04/2012 08:51

KlickKlackknobsac · 29/04/2012 08:56

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 29/04/2012 09:34

Sad We are in the orange bit.

Morning OYBBK. Smile

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 29/04/2012 09:37

58mph at Land's End just now. Feels like at least double that Grin.

At least it's still offshore.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 29/04/2012 09:38

Offshore on the south coast at least

Is anyone here from north Cornwall? North Devon? North Somerset? Or have you been washed away?

GloriaSmud · 29/04/2012 09:45

Still very dark, wet and windy here in Leicester. I think if anything, it's got worse since I've been up. Have been out (a lot of fun that was!) to upright my greenhouse. I've lost some seedlings (including some that my lovely neighbour gave me last week), but most of them seemed to have survived despite coming out of their trays. They're now 'recovering' in the conservatory!

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 29/04/2012 09:47

underwater - that is a rather sheltered weather station!
Readings from official met office site at Widecombe show a peak of 49mph.

My weather station under reads windspeed because of its location. it is above roof line, but it should ideally be 10ft above it! My max recorded over night is 27mph. The peak recorded at the nearest official station (under a mile away) is 36mph.

Very wet but less windy than I thought here near Sittingbourne.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 29/04/2012 10:03

A lot of roads closed in Devon: devon

I'm thinking the anemometer on Dartmoor might be broken Confused

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 29/04/2012 10:04

The winds were always going to be more of a SW feature seeker, though I note that there are strong winds elsewhere too.

OP posts:
Ohyoubadbadkitten · 29/04/2012 10:04

what makes you say that ariel?

This:

North Dartmoor current conditions:

*989.2 hPa
7.8ml rain in last 24hrs
4.5mph wind
Currently 2.9C

Peaked at about 12mph winds around 3 am apparently.*

Wouldn't Dartmoor be way windier than that?
