Can't promise that I'll be able to add as much as I usually do (not very well atm) so its quite likely I might miss stuff but I've added a few thoughts to that thread re the current set up and tis easier if I just keep it in one place.

Night, OYBBK.

Stay warm !

Meglet · 03/02/2012 23:33

According to the Met Office we'll get a sprinkling in north Hampshire.

We have biscuits.

Backinthebox · 04/02/2012 00:33

I'd be well excited about this apart from the fact that I'm supposed to be going on holiday, and I'd rather be skiing in the Alps than waiting for a charter flight to try and figure out how it's going to leave Gatwick!

Anyway, Heathrow:

FT 032300 032259Z 0400/0506 33005KT 9999 FEW038 PROB30
0404/0411 5000 HZ BECMG 0411/0414 18010KT BECMG
0418/0421 3000 -SN BKN006 BECMG 0421/0424 1200 SN
BKN002 PROB40 0421/0506 0500 SN VV/// -

This means between 1800 and 2100 on the 4th it will be 3000m visibility in light snow, becoming from 2100 to midnight 1200m in snow, with a 40% probability (which we regard as being likely for planning purposes) of between 2100 on the 4th and 0600 on the 5th of 500m in snow with no vertical visibility upwards. Ie if you look straight up you will not be able to see anything for the snow.

Gatwick:

FT 032300 032259Z 0400/0506 33004KT 9999 FEW030 PROB30
0402/0411 6000 BECMG 0410/0413 17010KT BECMG
0419/0422 3000 -SN BKN004 TEMPO 0421/0505
18015G25KT 0800 SN BKN001 -

Between 1900 and 2200 on the 4th it will be 3000m vis in light snow and temporarily for a period between 2100 and 0500 on the 5th it will be quite windy (15 knots from the south with gusts up to 25 knots) and 800m vis in snow, broken clouds at 100ft.

Anyway, whatever the weather, I'm off to work now, for a lovely (not) 9 hour flight. Because its all glamour, this job!

LivingDead · 04/02/2012 00:37

I never trust the online forecasts form the met office/BBC whatever, they never forecast snow for us, I remember one time (think it was Feb 2009) it was still showing drizzle for us when there was about 8 inches of snow outside.

I do kind of hope we get snow, but it's such a pita I hope it melts a day later, that would be ideal.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 04/02/2012 07:06

-9.6C and still dropping here this am.

quick glance at the models....

OhyouBadBadkitten · 04/02/2012 07:16

As far as I can see, not much has changed. Back mid morning for a proper analysis.

OP posts:
OhyouBadBadkitten · 04/02/2012 07:37

before I go - -9.8C and our milk is frozen solid.

rosieposey · 04/02/2012 07:54

I havent checked the outside temp this morning OYBBK but it was -6 on the way to Asda last night, i would presume it must be around -9 as i opened the window in the bathroom and it was soooo cold and frosty outside, i checked that link you sent to me yesterday that showed Lyneham as our nearest weather station and it showed -9.1 an hour and a half ago.

Met office is now showing rain for us at midnight tonight but still heavy snow for 18.00 hours - just hoping and praying that the temps stay low enough for us to get at least a couple of hours in the snow this eve it looks like its all going to turn to slush in no time though :(

PeneloPeePitstop · 04/02/2012 07:55

Bit gutted it's showing sleet late tonight after all those lovely fat flakes.

VeryLittleGravitas · 04/02/2012 08:10

I don't want it to snow...it's been so mild this winter that we didn't bother to fill the log store. I've burnt what little we had this week, and DP is too busy with his bloody buggering bike to pick up any more. At least we have a few sacks of emergency coal.

I might have to go log scrumping in the woods out the back. There's loads of lovely firewood there just going to waste providing homes for beetles.

-7.2 degrees here, and I had to get up at 5:30 to light the stove

mankyscotslass · 04/02/2012 08:11

-3 here this morning - warmer than yesterday.

Am Envy about all this deep snow predicted elsewhere!

Althouh could do without it - DH is off to the football this evening.

youarekidding · 04/02/2012 08:15

-9°c Shock Shock Shock

Think that is the coldest I've known it here. I think I may get icecles on my brochioli when I go running later. Grin

Makinglists · 04/02/2012 08:15

Avid lurker on this thread just to report that we have had the lightest dusting of snow on the outskirts of Plymouth - we were not supposed to get any - at least I can tell the DC's that we have had snow this year - sky looks very heavy but suspect it will be rain soon (booooo!). Temp currently around 0C

monstermissy · 04/02/2012 08:18

Snowing here in Norfolk, light covering already on the ground but its still coming down. Not those fat flakes that float down though. Will need lots more for snowmen :)

SuePurblybilt · 04/02/2012 08:19

North Devon/Mid Devon - also a covering but not enough for a snowman. But we weren't supposed to get any so I'm off to check the reports again Grin

Whatevertheweather · 04/02/2012 08:20

Yep Youarekidding mine is showing -9 as well Shock Was supposed to be taking dd swimming this morning. We are currently under duvets watching scooby doo!

Hulababy · 04/02/2012 08:21

Everything seems to forecasting light snow, heavy snow and sleet for us here in Sheffield for this afternoon/evening.

Not happy :(

9y DD has her drama show this evening. Her grandparents are coming over to watch. DD and her friends have been practising for ages and are all really excited.

I really hope the snow doesn't prevent it :(

randommoment · 04/02/2012 08:24

beautiful clear sunny morning, lots of ice on roofs and car windows. RosiePosie Lyneham's our nearest weather station too, and I suspect you've been looking at the same forecast as me, am considering headtorches for sledging tonight in case it's all melted in the morning.

youarekidding · 04/02/2012 08:31

whatevertheweather I would be surprised if it was warmer where you are - it's less than a mile Wink Grin Sounds good about the cosying up. Is it a swimming lesson or just a normal swim? Pool shut until 12 noon otherwise so may be warmer then!

rosieposey · 04/02/2012 08:40

Good thinking randommoment - i am hoping that they have got the forecast slightly wrong and we are going to get lots of snow.
