Can't promise that I'll be able to add as much as I usually do (not very well atm) so its quite likely I might miss stuff but I've added a few thoughts to that thread re the current set up and tis easier if I just keep it in one place.

I wonder if anyone can answer a question, according to the met office I am in the middle of their amber warning for snow, yet when I look at the BBC weather site it just says clear skies and sunshine for tomorrow? Confused

tak1ngchances · 03/02/2012 16:01

Yep frownie that's what was confusing me too...read my post from earlier on today. I asked them that very question on twitter

OhyouBadBadkitten · 03/02/2012 16:03

I've never quite figured out how the bbc compile their maps. I'd stick with the met office maps.

The BBC online forecasts always seem to be different to the ones they put out on TV. I don't know why because the online ones are updated fairly regularly. I've always assumed it's because online they have to "average" conditions out, so saying that generally it will be clear and sunny when actually there may well be snow for part of the day, but most of the day will be clear and sunny.

MegGriffin · 03/02/2012 16:09

I'm in the amber warning area (west sussex) and it says light snow for us on the met office local forcast. I want my 5-10 cms!

CherryMonster · 03/02/2012 16:09

OYBBK any chance of a decent amount of white stuff for me?

Hassled · 03/02/2012 16:13

OYBBK - you're doing stirling work here - hope you're feeling better.

If it doesn't snow in Norfolk tomorrow there will be sobbing children and much gnashing of teeth - the excitement is building to fever pitch.

TeWihara · 03/02/2012 16:20

Ooh, thank you OYBK! Will go to the supermarket tonight instead of tomorrow.

Would love to get some snow - poor DD though, she's at home on Chicken Pox quarantine! She'll have to make do with the garden if she's well enough.

We went out in the garden today and her sand and water table was frozen (as expected) But it was a good 4 inches thick of ice, and was absolutely full of trapped bubbles, like frozen lemonade. I have never seen ice like that.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 03/02/2012 16:21

Hassled - wont be til tomorrow night I'm afraid (unless you get the odd shower over night). Hopefully Sunday will be a good day (are you away from the coast?) Am better than I was by a long way but not right - I am very very tired and a bit fainty still.

CM - you do have a good chance for some for a while at least before the rain comes.

Freezing fog looking likely over some eastern counties Sunday night. Yuk!

PeneloPeePitstop · 03/02/2012 16:34

I'm right on the line between orange and yellow.... I'd bloody better get my 10cm and the rain can just bog off!

whomovedmychocolate · 03/02/2012 16:39

We are apparently yellow whatever the hell that means.

MrsDeeBee · 03/02/2012 16:52

We have an amber warning but I am less hopeful of it actually being snow. Looks like it might be more likely to be sleet.

Drat.

headfairy · 03/02/2012 16:53

I know it's a way off, but Metcheck are forecasting heavy snow for Surrey on next thursday that's a bit odd, is there more on the horizon?

OhyouBadBadkitten · 03/02/2012 16:59

possibly headfairy - it is what gfs shows but not what ukmo shows.

ok, going to look at the latest gfs output for tomorrow (it updates every 6 hours)

5-10 cm in London!

angelpantser · 03/02/2012 17:03

I'm supposed to be travelling by train on Sunday from the East Midlands to Liverpool and returning on Monday. It's going to be hell isn't it?

I need to go - it's a family funeral Sad

GlitterKitty · 03/02/2012 17:05

Metcheck is showing snow every day until Thursday in London?!!? Shock

Really? Really? Grin

OhyouBadBadkitten · 03/02/2012 17:18

I tend not to look at metcheck cos its just one model and I would wait and see until tomorrow night pans out to see which model is handling the cold/mild battle bes Glitter.

angelpantser - might not be great. I'm sorry to hear about the funeral :(

Oooo. Technical- I do see they are all saying different things. I just want this one to be true!

Whatevertheweather · 03/02/2012 17:30

the Amber warning is now nowhere near Portsmouth. Dratted southern living. Foiled again.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 03/02/2012 17:36

tis going to be very tight for you whatevertheweather. Just a little too warm I think sadly.

OP posts:
OhyouBadBadkitten · 03/02/2012 17:37

but I could be wrong :)

OP posts:
pigleychez · 03/02/2012 17:52

ohh, hope we gets some here in West Sussex. We have 2 brand new sledges in the shed ready and waiting to be used and I have brand new snowboots wanting to be worn! :)

I want lots though! The type that means DH has to stay home and DD1 doesn't have to go to Preschool! Like last year when we trekked across the fields to the shops :)

However im sure we will probably get a little and be left with horrid slushy, slippy stuff for days that I will have to walk the school run in :(

rubyslippers · 03/02/2012 17:54

Oh hello

Never been on a snow thread - what are the chances of snow in Essex this weekend

Parents meant to be coming from oop North to me on Sunday and we are out tomorrow in Essex (if there's no snow)

OhyouBadBadkitten · 03/02/2012 17:58

welcome ruby! Tomorrow you'll be fine. Sat night/Sunday you'll be in the thick of it if current predictions are correct.
