@ppeatfruit

Sapat It's a good way to get some of my 5 a day (I do Food Combining for health and weight so I eat fruit for breakfast, on an empty stomach) Your DDs sound amazing good for them.

Kobani Did you bake the squash 'a la moi?' Grin

B. Not feeling well today, some infection in my tooth. So made a garlic medicine with turmeric. Hardly ate anything.
L. Made some rice with baked butternut squash
S. 2 ryvitas with spreads

Ouch. Tooth problems are bad

Finding it hard to give up on eggs, so going vegan lite and continuing on my journey to full veganism ... just as a marathon not a sprint

ppeatfruit · 29/10/2021 09:33

BelladiMamma I reckon we all do what we can, I've been veggie for years and must admit I do fall off the vegan wagon occasionally, this area is so amazing with it's good\great inexpensive organic produce and the producers are our friends!. DH is an omnivore he cooks well too Grin

I'm pretty sure the fact that I do all the cooking is part of the issue ... my DS will muck in; my DD will make pancakes once in a blue moon ... but as they're both veggie I'm always watching their protein intake and throw an egg into whatever they're eating ...
SapatSea · 29/10/2021 10:53

ppeatfruit I hope the tooth continues to improve with the garlic treatment. I love how clean you eat.
BelladiMamma I agree with ppeatfruit just do what you can. I've been veggie since 1981 and intermittently vegan but fell off the wagon numerous times when travelling/on holiday or with honey and especially butter (I'm Irish and butter on a potato is ambrosia). Thankfully plant butters are better these days and I've got used to having a bit of veg stock and plant mik in mash instead.

That's very kind Sapat I'm getting on more than a bit and notice my health stalling if (for example) I have too much sugar. I know we all have to die I just want to be a healthy oldie with my own teeth!!

@ppeatfruit lovely sounding smoothie. How's the tooth?
@BelladiMamma I agree with everyone else in terms of do what you can (it's hard to say it without sounding horribly cheesy but I like to think of it as a journey 😂) I also agree with you about eggs being a possible deal breaker, I definitely miss them more than dairy
@SapatSea how was the chetna curry from the guardian? I'm meaning to try that one myself

PartTimeDomesticGoddess · 31/10/2021 12:36

PartTimeDomesticGoddess the Chetna black eyed bean curry was tasty. Nothing special but very quick and easy to make - I felt it did need the spinach on the side with lots of lemon as the sauce of tinned tomatoes and coconut milk was quite rich (for me). If I make it again I'd sub in fresh tomatoes and less coconut milk (even though I'd already cut both quantities of those down).

I've had bad vertigo and balance issues so not really eating much the past few days - just some steamed veg and crackers. I'm feeling on the mend today though.

KobaniDaughters · 01/11/2021 21:59

Hey everyone, been a bit awol after a busy weekend as it was my son’s 13th birthday on Halloween (and he’s officially 6ft tall!) so yesterday was a very unhealthy but delicious day thanks to him, and today is just pure stodgy thanks to the hangover of organising a Halloween party after trick and treating for 15 Pre-teens and teens!

Yesterday:
B: avocado toast
L: ramen
D: pizza and cake

Today:
B: leftover pizza
L: leftover ramen
D: pumpkin curry

PartTimeDomesticGoddess · 01/11/2021 21:59

@SapatSea that sounds rubbish (the vertigo not the curry!), hope you're on the mend
@ppeatfruit glad to hear you're feeling better. It was the vegetarian butcher chicken pieces (what the cluck lol) and I bought them from sainsburys (but have also seen them in Tesco)

B: Monday smoothie
L: leftover flatbread with hummus, roasted cauliflower and roasted red pepper (all warmed at work and with sriracha Mayo drizzled over). Side of beetroot
S: Apple
D: noodles in a miso/Mirin/soy/sesame sauce, with stir fried broccoli/cabbage/carrot/red onion/red pepper, a miso baked portobello mushroom and some tasty tofu (https://itdoesnttastelikechicken.com/baked-tofu-bites/)

ppeatfruit · 02/11/2021 09:30

OMG what a tall boy Kobani ! Such a fun weekend! Did the trick or treating go well? I miss it here. I forgot it 's huge over there, I bet the sweets weren't vegan Grin The french are hilarious with their organic natural colour marshmallows then they put pork fat in them!!!!

Sapat I don't know if you're into them but my herbal\essential oil books (I study and use them), I'm a witch Halloween Grin recommend sniffing peppermint for dizziness. Also try stinging nettle supplements.

B. Smoothie
L. My dried pea\turnip and carrot soup with leftover B/nut squash and spelt toast.
S. walnuts, 3 rice\quinoa crackers with red onion and my spreads.

OP posts:
SapatSea · 02/11/2021 11:13

PartTimeDomesticGoddess your work lunch sound delicious as does the tofu dinner.
ppeatfruit thanks for the advice about peperrmint oil - I'll try it as I have a bottle of peppermint essential oil in the cleaning cupboard.

Yesterday:
B: oatcakes, fennel tea
L: baked potato, leeks, parsley, cabbage
D: Miso tofu, cauliflower rice fried up with edamame, petit pois, spring onion, loads of ginger, choi sum, white pepper, soy, sesame oil.

Today:
B: toasted vegan scone and jam
L: Goodlife Nut burger, parsnip and potato mash broccoli
D: red lentil dal, Meera Sodha black pepper, lemon and garlic spinach. Roti

KobaniDaughters · 03/11/2021 01:44

How’s the vertigo @SapatSea and the tooth @ppeatfruit?

All the miso food sounds delicious - umami all round. Trick and treating went very well and no the sweets weren’t vegan (not ashamed to admit a part of me being vegan is having a good excuse to avoid eating stuff like that)

L: vegan gumbo out of the tin (it was ok)
D: steamed lentils, roast delicata squash, tomatoes, feta, parsley and lemon juice with a side of lettuce

ppeatfruit · 03/11/2021 09:16

Thanks for asking Kobani Due to the magic of raw mushed up garlic and water, I've conquered the worst but there's still some sensitivity, more the gum than the tooth. I agree about having a good excuse to avoid highly indulgent foods and drinks (most wine isn't even veggie here). The tooth also!

I was going to say how nice that you have the facilities to warm your lunch up at work PartTime Do your colleagues make supportive or critical noises?
B. Spelt flakes (Amisa, very nice, we have them delivered) and warmed almond milk (we've run out of apples etc.)
L. Bowl of my pea soup with leeks.
Sn. walnuts and pumpkin seeds S. 4 ryvitas and spreads with endive\onion salad basil\olive oil horseradish dressing

OP posts:
KobaniDaughters · 04/11/2021 01:52

L: lentils, feta, lettuce, avocado and lemon juice
S: persimmon
D: winter veg stew

Also have started blending cashews and water to make a thick cream and then blending a tablespoon of it with brewed coffee to make a frothy latte style coffee and it’s delicious

ppeatfruit · 04/11/2021 08:34

Kobani It's difficult to find a 'milk' that blends well (without separating) in hot ground coffee, we have one of those 'frothers' and still I've noticed that the coffee can't be too hot or my (bought) almond milk separates. I don't drink it every day, it's a 'treat' for me so I get upset if it's not nice Grin I might try doing that with soaked almonds.

B. Apple, fresh ginger, whole lemon, pineapple juice\water ground linseeds smoothie.
L. Dried pea soup and quinoa crackers
Sn.Walnuts and pumpkin seeds S. Pumpernickel endive\red onion salad with basil dressing\olive oil

OP posts:
KobaniDaughters · 04/11/2021 14:19

@ppeatfruit yeah I always have my coffee black at home!

PartTimeDomesticGoddess · 04/11/2021 22:25

My turn to have been awol after a busy few days. Belated happy birthday to your DS @KobaniDaughters! I can't imagine a 6 foot tall offspring 😂 DD18 is a very similar size to me and DD15 is smaller
Glad to hear your tooth is better @ppeatfruit and lol at you being a witch
How's the vertigo @SapatSea?

Tuesday
B: overnight oats with soya milk/yogurt, kiwi, chia and sunflower seeds
L: cavalo Nero, butternut, tomato and cannelini bean hotpot with lots of nooch (and the obligatory side of beetroot!)
S: dates
D: lentil shepherds pie with buttery leeks and peas, steamed cabbage and broccoli and lots of gravy. Small portion of syrup sponge and custard

Wednesday
B: kiwi, porridge with sultanas and seeds
L: cream cheese and cucumber sandwich, butternut/cannellini/rosemary stew
D: fake salmon (see note below!) with garlic potatoes, carrots, broccoli, peas and green beans

Today
B: kiwi, dates, trek protein bar
L: lentil and mixed veg soup with seeds
S: Apple, handful of cashews
D: shakshuka with spinach/silken tofu/capers/crumbled feta and crusty bread

Fake salmon was plant pioneers (Sainsburys) as I was curious. I cooked it in a marinade (same as the one used with real salmon for DH and DD15). It was ok, certainly not unpleasant (texture was quite nice) but not very fishy, possibly to do with the marinade. I’d have been just as happy with a roasted aubergine, but might try it again at some point without the marinade

KobaniDaughters · 05/11/2021 01:49

Thankyou @PartTimeDomesticGoddess yeah it’s crazy how tall he is already! Your three days (especially dinners) sound amazing

L: veg soup
S: persimmon
D: steamed lentils, delicata squash, mint, lemon, feta and chill flakes

ppeatfruit · 05/11/2021 09:59

Thanks PartTime

Oh yes Sapat I was going to mention to not use old ess. oils (sniff it first before using) they must be fresh. I sniff mint to get to sleep and clear my sinuses , it does both effectively. Oh and it's good for travel sickness as well as dizziness. Ginger is good too.

B. Smoothie
L. sn type quinoa\rice crackers with spreads and crunchy almond butter.
Later lunch. Defrosted pea/root stew with steamed cauliflour, I kept picking at with tamari sooo delicious.
S. not hungry Grin

Wow, lots of fabulous food. Thanks for asking after me. I'm on the mend, functional but feel like I've been on a few rollercoasters. My meds don't seem to be cutting it anymore but I'm loathe to add a new one on top as I already feel quite zombified by them.
Thanks for the tips ppeatfruit. I love root ginger, I often eat a few slices for a pick me up.
PartTime your shepherd's pie sounds truly epic - comfort food par excellence. Really interesting to read about your experience cooking the fake salmon.

Wednesday:
B: vegan scone, raspberry jam, apple
L: seeded oatcakes, tomatoes, cucumbers
D: hazelnut crusted tofu, celeriac, sweetheart cabbage, peas, broccoli

Thursday:
B: Oatcakes (warmed on top of toaster) apples
L: Goodlife Nut burger, mash, peas, broccoli
D: Steamed veg mix
