Thinking of moving to Leeds, saw some lovely new build houses in seacroft area...anyone know what it is like? Thanks

I was born and bred in Chapel Allerton and absolutely love it - however the housing stock is limited and expensive - I would recommend looking at Miles Hill - ex 40s housing estate - but lots of private ownership now - good quality and good sized houses - good gardens - and walk-in distance to the shops and cafes.
One word of warning the queues outside the cheese mongers on a Friday are crazy!

That's the compromise I suppose. We looked at the new builds in Cookridge and they were nice houses, but the area was too residential, nothing nearby in terms of amenities and with teens we would be constantly driving them and picking them up!

ilovebrie8 · 01/03/2021 11:20

That’s very true @SingingSands I like to have some cafes and shops nearby ...Smile

If you live in Cookridge and are planning on using Horsforth station it's a long old hike up a long old hill as the station is in the valley. So whilst you might only be a mile or so from the station, it's a bit of a ball ache (voice of experience).

I wouldn't move to Seacroft!! It's very rough and you would regret it but it does depend on where you're moving from I suppose.

rainbowdashsneeze · 02/03/2021 12:59

@ilovebrie8

What is Bramley like? There are two of us looking for house not a flat...
Again not the best areas. Chapel allerton is lovely though.
rainbowdashsneeze · 02/03/2021 13:01

@ilovebrie8

The address for these new ones is South Parkway, Seaforth, LS14 is that the ones you mean *@RaelImperialAerosolKid*?
South parkway is the worst area of Seacroft by far.
ilovebrie8 · 02/03/2021 13:24

@rainbowdashsneeze Seacroft is off my list, I got carried away looking at the pics of the new houses I had no idea they were in a rough area.......i am thinking Chapel Allerton would suit us...

I live in Moortown and it suits us lovely and is a really really nice area.

ilovebrie8 · 02/03/2021 18:40

Thanks @HighlyStrungPuppet is that spot nice? Houses look nice in the pics

OP posts:
HighlyStrungPuppet · 02/03/2021 19:29

Sorry, I can't help, I don't know that area.

ilovebrie8 · 03/03/2021 10:30

Ah ok @HighlyStrungPuppet I thought you knew the area as you sent the property link

@ilovebrie8

If you look at a map of Leeds, generally the top half KD the oval is the better side north of the outer ring road (A6110) starting at Horsforth and Rawdon round to Cross Gates. Odd exceptions like Chapel Allerton but note that you are very close to Chapeltown which is utterly grim.

As you go out to Moortown/Harewood/Adel/OtleyWetherby ...the cost gets greater. They are all nice though

HighlyStrungPuppet · 03/03/2021 14:32

I don't know Gildersome but I know Morley.

ilovebrie8 · 04/03/2021 09:23

Thanks @Sunflowergirl1

Thanks for heads up @Turefu! Don’t think I’d like that being so near a motorway 😬.

Lot of peeps recommended Chapel Allerton and I like the sound of it....but not many houses available limited choice...still would prefer a new build but in a nice spot ...not Seacroft now though as I mentioned in my OP

You really do need to look at places yourself, I've lived in Chapel Allerton, Meanwood and now in Middleton (as well as 5 years before that in a village between Leeds and Selby) I've seen less trouble since moving to Middleton 2 years ago than I saw in the previous 12 years in North Leeds, I don't see drug deals on the walk to the school now...
My street is pretty self contained though so don't see much going on in surrounding streets.

RaelImperialAerosolKid · 04/03/2021 20:00

Have a look at Nee Forest Village - officially Middleton but pretty much self contained - big new build estate about 10 years old. Close enough for an easy commute - near to Rothwell for cafes and nice shops - and in walking distance to open countryside and rhubarb farms .
