@heart80s I’ll scrub Bramley from my list...I thought it sounded nice the name ..

Monkeytapper · 26/02/2021 21:27

Avoid Beeston, Bramley, Holbeck (has the only legalised red light area in uk), also avoid Seacroft, Chapel Town, Little London, Belle Isle, Burmontofts, Harehills,

RampantIvy · 26/02/2021 21:29

I recall that Hunslet and Middleton weren't that great either.

ilovebrie8 · 26/02/2021 21:32

Okay @Monkeytapper thanks so much ...that’s very helpful to know...oh my a legalised red light area 😟. They are a no no then the ones you’ve listed I’ve started a list on paper

Avoid Seacroft. Cross Gates is better.

tanguero · 26/02/2021 21:36

Leeds.....architecturally, is the ugliest city in Britain.

happygertie · 26/02/2021 21:41

We used to live in Rothwell and loved it. Close to m1, m62 and wakefield and only a 15 min car journey/ bus ride into Leeds city centre. Lots of nice green areas close by too.

Monkeytapper · 26/02/2021 21:42

Roundhay,Chapel Allerton, Pudsey, Morley, Garforth, East Arsdley, Calverley are all fine.

Monkeytapper · 26/02/2021 21:43

And as pp said, Middleton and Hunslet not so great

ImInStealthMode · 26/02/2021 21:48

Garforth is great for commuting with two train stations and a few different bus routes. Family live there and it seems like it'd be a nice place to live.

tanguero · 26/02/2021 21:48

Rothwell, Pudsey, Morley, Garforth, East Arsdley. A lot of people on here .....who have made sure, they don't actually live in Leeds themselves. Why is that then ?

ilovebrie8 · 26/02/2021 21:56

Thanks @Monkeytapper !

OP posts:
heart80s · 26/02/2021 21:58

@tanguero what is your problem? OP asked for advice on where to live or not live and your on here sprouting shit?

14down · 26/02/2021 21:59

@ilovebrie8 it was on the main road 'Leeds and Bradford road.' Near the Glenlea surgery which incidentally were the most amazing drs! But you couldn't pay me to live in bramley again. Join 'Leeds face' on Facebook

ilovebrie8 · 26/02/2021 22:06

@14down I’ll look on Facebook for that group. Sounds awful bet you are glad you got away from Bramley ...that’s definitely off my list ! Don’t want our car torched ...

We'll tell you when you get here.
'Interesting' Leeds fact the Saxon suffix -ley means clearing in a forest - so lots of the original places date to then - if you plot the names of the places ending in -ley from say tingley and east Ardsley in the south -
to Otley and Ilkley in the north you can see where the woodlands were. Also the origin of ley lines that are supposed to run through Leeds.

ImInStealthMode · 26/02/2021 22:28

@tanguero Well for me I was trying to hold on to some veil of anonymity (in conjunction with my answers to other threads) but since you're so full of suspicion I actually lived 20 years in Garforth before moving some years ago. Family still live there. I said it seems like it'd be a nice place to live because it is.

Happy now? I suspect others respondents may have been equally deliberately vague for reasons of anonymity Hmm

OP, if you have any questions about that area specifically I'll do my best but it's been a while since I left now Smile

14down · 27/02/2021 01:20

@ilovebrie8 if you want an amusing story, the 'memories of bramley' Facebook page changed its name to crimes in bramley because of the amount of crime being reported. We don't live in Leeds anymore but I don't miss bramley

LarsErickssong · 27/02/2021 07:08

@tanguero

Rothwell, Pudsey, Morley, Garforth, East Arsdley. A lot of people on here .....who have made sure, they don't actually live in Leeds themselves. Why is that then ?
I don't understand what your point is? That those places aren't Leeds?
RampantIvy · 27/02/2021 07:49

I would have considered Pudsey as Leeds. It is nearer to the city centre than Guiseley.

heart80s · 27/02/2021 08:00

Pudsey is in Leeds it's an LS28 postcode.

BikeRunSki · 27/02/2021 08:06

All those places are within the boundaries Leeds City Council. Not everyone wants to live in a city centre!

LarsErickssong · 27/02/2021 08:09

Yep I would class anywhere with a LS postcode as Leeds! If OP made a thread called 'moving to Seacroft' it never would have got as many replies as it's only a small area.

Dailywalk · 27/02/2021 08:10

Farsley has a train station so trains to centre would get you there in 12min. Horsforth too but your money will go further in Farsley. Farsley also has lots going for it in terms of pubs, cafes and even art galleries.

ilovebrie8 · 27/02/2021 09:33

@Dailywalk I’ll look at Farsley sounds ideal if it has a train station as buses to town centre will be a lot longer. Thanks
