Thinking of moving to Leeds, saw some lovely new build houses in seacroft area...anyone know what it is like? Thanks

www.redrow.co.uk/developments/the-point-at-thorpe-park-leeds-162657

I drive past this development on my way to work. It’s right next to a retail park and they’re going to link it to the train line from Crossgates. It’s also right next to the M1 so very convenient for transport links

ilovebrie8 · 25/02/2021 19:22

The address for these new ones is South Parkway, Seaforth, LS14 is that the ones you mean @RaelImperialAerosolKid?

Do you need to be near a particular office/work location, school, relative etc? Leeds is a big old city, it can take ages to get around at the wrong time of day.

Lochmorlich · 25/02/2021 19:27

Don't live near Seacroft.

Look at Horsforth, Roundhay, Bramhope, Chapel Allerton, Headingly and Meanwood.

Hamstertrousers · 25/02/2021 19:31

Nooo definitely not Seacroft! Stick to north or West and give south and east a miss.

Mimimayhem18 · 25/02/2021 19:56

I live in seacroft, it's divided into north and south seacroft. Where you are talking about is south and I would definitely avoid, the rest of it is really not as bad as people make out.

ilovebrie8 · 25/02/2021 20:00

Thanks for that @Mimimayhem18 I’ll give it a miss then...

Apperley Bridge just outside Leeds is nice. Bradford postcode but basically Leeds and really popular with young families.

RobBeckettsTeeth · 25/02/2021 20:05

If it's the estate on the left going towards York, a family member lives there. They can't wait to be able to move.
Any house without a burglar alarm will be targeted.
There's been a lot of ASB as well.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 25/02/2021 20:06

Where will you work OP?

Mimimayhem18 · 25/02/2021 20:08

There were some brand new homes being built by Redrow and Strata right at the top of seacroft around coal road, they might be more what you are looking for.

ilovebrie8 · 25/02/2021 20:16

I’ll take a look at those thanks @Mimimayhem18...

What is cookridge like? Some new builds LS16 postcode ...

OP posts:
HermioneWeasley · 25/02/2021 20:23

Cookridge is really nice but transport into city centre isn’t great.

A £250k budget for a 2 bed should get you a good location

Turefu · 25/02/2021 20:24

Is Morley good for schools, specially secondary ones? My budget is small though, 130k. Is it worth looking for somethig there?

ilovebrie8 · 25/02/2021 20:28

Am hoping I can do a lot of wfh so not too much commuting !

OP posts:
newmummy8789 · 25/02/2021 20:42

Cookridge is nice, depending on where they are you can walk to Horsforth train station and get into Leeds

newmummy8789 · 25/02/2021 20:44

It's close to the airport and they are extending it to be used 24 hours (currently shouldn't be flying at night) so I'd look into that if you look at those houses.

FenceSplinters · 25/02/2021 21:09

Wherever you look, check the HS2 route. Lots of people are selling up now because the rail track is possibly going to go through their property.

OutOfTheDoorNow · 25/02/2021 21:16

I know you are saying not much commuting but for those of us who live in Leeds this can be an absolute deal breaker.

We discounted all of North Leeds due to ring road hell of getting down to the M62.

City centre wise would you need to get the train? Would you get the bus? Or drive in and park? Where? Costs are incredibly high to park.

FreezingTips · 25/02/2021 21:17

I think Cookridge is a good choice.

Rosehassometoes · 25/02/2021 21:24

Try:
Horsforth
Cookridge
Guiseley
Rodley
Cookridge

Moortown
Alwoodley
Chapel Allerton
Shadwell
Adel
Headingley
Roundhay- but expensive

Garforth
Kippax is okay
Colton
Woodlesford

@Turefu

Is Morley good for schools, specially secondary ones? My budget is small though, 130k. Is it worth looking for somethig there?
@Turefu yes Morley has an outstanding secondary school and my children go there. The Morley Academy Fountain Street. Morley also has several good schools too. I can only really comment on Morley Academy but they are part of a MAT with several others. Same ethos.

But I don't know how many bedrooms you need for your budget though. @Monkeytapper has said they also live in Morley so can wade in.

It is great for M1/M62 transport links, has a train station and White Rose shopping centre.

Turefu · 25/02/2021 21:55

Outofthedoornow, thank you for your reply. Ideally, I’d like three bedrooms, but two are ok. I’d like to have a small garden too. I consider Dewsbury too, but I’m not sure about it, prefer Morley.

Minnie888 · 25/02/2021 22:00

Consider Wakefield. Also a city but much smaller and 10 min drive into leeds city centre. Much better road connections, m1 and m42. North leeds a nightmare to drive anywhere south or north. Wakefield has lots of new builds at the moment and house prices are sky rocketing as people move out of leeds, but you will still get so much more for your money.
