VB's dress on Mrs Burnham - horrible

I'm not a fashion expert and I really don't care much for it but this was the most horrible dress I have ever seen. Even on a coathangar bodytype like VB herself it wouldn't look good but on an average body it's just hideous. That's 850 £ unwisely spent. She could and should have gotten a dress from M&S for 50£ and actually looked good.

It's not particularly flattering but I don't like her any the less for wearing it. It's only a dress and what she is like as a person is the important thing

I thought it was pretty awful too @TheBlueKoala - part of it was that the sizing was off but also the pastel colour did nothing for her.

It was a dress - and appropriate for the occasion. It was a nice understated colour and looked comfortable on her. She's not a model, so I don't see why there's judgement of her choice. Leave the poor woman alone as she's got enough to contend with without being vilified for her sartorial choices.

God, can you imagine trying to decide what to wear for the worlds’ first view of you as the new pms wife, knowing that eager hoards are waiting to give their judgement. I can’t decide what to wear to pop to the shops, poor woman. She looks pretty cool normally, this must have been a stressful day for her!

£850 is a big price. I think she could have spent far less on something else.

It doesn’t look like £850 worth of dress to me. I think Lady Starmer looked much nicer when she departed Downing Street earlier in the day.

It looks too small for her, too tight on her hips and stomach. The colour doesn’t really suit her either. I’ve seen her look much nicer…. However, there is no reason she needs to be aesthetically pleasing to us. She is the PMs wife, not a model.

It's fine. It absolutely doesn't deserve your hyperbolic description. She looks perfectly nice in a simple, understated dress. Wildly overreacting to women's clothing is sexist and boring.

It's an okay dress, maybe a bit of a wishy-washy colour, but I assume she wanted to look understated and unfussy.

Leave her be. None of us have perfect bodies. And she embraced a British designer which is a good move.

I'm sure she's been bricking it about what to wear, as she knows the world's press will be watching. The dress was by no means the worst dress ever, but neither colour nor shape suited her. However, as a pp said, she'll be advised and I suspect she'll be in something much more flattering next time.

I think she is a bit old to be pregnant, although mumsnetters always know someone that conceived naturally in their 50s without any issues so it’s possible I suppose. 🤣
