VB's dress on Mrs Burnham - horrible

I'm not a fashion expert and I really don't care much for it but this was the most horrible dress I have ever seen. Even on a coathangar bodytype like VB herself it wouldn't look good but on an average body it's just hideous. That's 850 £ unwisely spent. She could and should have gotten a dress from M&S for 50£ and actually looked good.

I’d be surprised if the people who are saying posters are being bitchy were the ones tearing her down. I know I certainly wasn’t.

It is also fine to have thoughts about what someone is wearing and to keep them inside your head. You know, just not to add to what must be awful for her to read online.

I meant that when people were discussing Akshata Murty's dress on here a few years ago there wasn't a lot of criticism of the discussion. It seems that it's ok to comment on a Tory wife but not a Labour one. That is the hypocrisy.

Pplareasthickasshit · 20/07/2026 20:27

You're kidding right? Men say some of the nastiest things you could ever imagine about women. Ageist misogynistic rants. So it's even more important that women don't do the same.

Pplareasthickasshit · 20/07/2026 20:21

So be part of the change and stop scrutinising.

It’s human nature. I would never say it to her face as I wouldn’t want to hurt her feelings as I’m not spiteful but I will absolutely comment on an anonymous forum. If she’s got any sense she won’t read Mumsnet!

He dresses like a bin man.

It's bin day round my way tomorrow, must check to see if they are wearing a clean white shirt with a suit and tie or maybe they will be sporting jeans and a tshirt rather than protective clothing and hi vis vests.

She’s a Cambridge graduate who is in her late 50s and has had a successful career.

But yes, focus on her stomach. That’s important. Fucking hell, who needs men tearing us down when sisters are doing it for us?

Exactly.

Livelovebehappy · 20/07/2026 20:28

The dress is okay, but doesn’t nothing for her. That sort of material clings to every bump and lump. I think we can safely say she isn’t going to be a fashionista. She looks a little uncomfortable, so I’m assuming she’s not someone who worships fashion. The most obscene thing is Burnham declaring himself a man of the people, but reverting to what all champagne socialists do. They hate the rich, but aspire to be them.

PropertyD · 20/07/2026 20:28

If she really doesn’t care how she looked spending nearly £1000 on one dress isn’t a good idea.

EasternStandard · 20/07/2026 20:28

MissFancyDay · 20/07/2026 20:13

I don't see why it's off limits to talk about her dress, which was very unflattering.

Everybody talked about Akshata Murty's dress when Rishi Sunak got in, a lot of people hated it. People are just so hypocritical on here That was a lovely dress IMO.

Tbf she did get similar and Carrie Johnson. And Truss.

I think the VB dress is a nice colour and it’s fine not to be ultra slim to wear it.

It's really not human nature to be unnecessary online about the way another woman looks in a dress. As someone has already said, not every thought in your head needs to be shared.

AInightingale · 20/07/2026 20:29

Did VB also design Mel C's wedding dress?

But they are just like us...

Fairyliz · 20/07/2026 20:30

Was it really £850? I’ve seen nicer dresses on Shein.
VB must be laughing all the way to the bank, that is if she actually laughs.

IDontHateRainbows · 20/07/2026 20:13

This is why shapeware exists. I think she forgot the spanx.

Edited

I think she was wearing support knickers though - there was a visible line across her stomach where the top of the knickers was probably rolling down a bit.
It really was a horrible dress and I’m shocked to hear it was £890. She’s been robbed.

Dragonscaledaisy · 20/07/2026 20:30

AuntieBiotics · 20/07/2026 20:24

The women in this scenario are there as support, they are not main character here, the main characters today were Keir Starmer and Andy Burnham. Victoria Starmer got it perfectly right - a simple style, plain colour, appropriate to meet the King, not terribly eye-catching.

I disagree I'm afraid. I admire Marie-France van Heel for choosing an outfit that reflected her personality and style. She is a woman who is not prepared to fade into the background. Smart, successful and exactly my kind of person.

Shloopie · 20/07/2026 20:30

This is why I'd screech 'fuck no' if my spouse made noises about having No.10 ambitions.

Northernlassie123 · 20/07/2026 20:30

Oh FHS leave her alone

It's not holders at all, it was possibly a tiny bit tight around the middle but that's it .

I wouldn't mind one bit looking like that in it.

Yes they did get similar, which was all fair and good. We just weren't all told off about it.

MrsKeats · 20/07/2026 20:26

God women are so bitchy.

Some women are. Plenty aren't.

Agreed.

What a load of rubbish. Poor woman. Let's hope going forward, she is able to find a safe and reasonably flattering style for herself

Women really like to insult women. What about the PM’s attire? Any criticism? Thought not.

He looked awful and is desperately in need a new tailor.

(I didn't like the dress either but would be nice to hold men to the same standards)

What are you then, the body beautiful. So it was too neat on her, no need to act like a catty b**ch.

Doesn’t she earn her own money though? She can buy what she wants. It his job and she’s just in the photo with him

Blueuggboots · 20/07/2026 20:34

Pound songs go BEFORE the figures. £850!!!!
