VB's dress on Mrs Burnham - horrible

I'm not a fashion expert and I really don't care much for it but this was the most horrible dress I have ever seen. Even on a coathangar bodytype like VB herself it wouldn't look good but on an average body it's just hideous. That's 850 £ unwisely spent. She could and should have gotten a dress from M&S for 50£ and actually looked good.

This is a case in point of 'if you can't be kind, say nothing' ... her choice of dress is entirely her affair. You do all know that she has survived breast cancer, don't you? 🤔Kindness costs nothing, but mean, petty comments about how someone looks in a piece of clothing is really scraping the barrel .. IMHO.

That’s two extremes though. Michael foot was not a poor man, he left a hefty estate and dressing in a donkey jacket was scruffy and we should expect better from our politicians in how they present.

michael left 1.3m in 2010, thays 2 million in today’s money. He was a multi millionaire. Playing dress up as a working man is horrifying. He was not.

politicians, like everyone else employed should dress appropriately for their role. Not cosplay as something they are not, it is nothing to do with which way your politics lean.

and burnham wife is not in politics, she’s a senior marketing exec. She wore a pretty dress to support her husband on the day he took on tn4 biggest challenge of his life, and she’s been ripped apart by baying people. women in the main,over her body, her dress sense, her make up, her hair. Even dawn french had to step in and say enough.

and still it continues. This isn’t about politics. It’s not about Michael foot cosplaying a working man or Derek Hatton in designer gear. It’s about women attacking women to make themselves feel superior.

I disagree about Foot, it wasn’t cosplaying. It was how he dressed.

Yes, with a total lack of respect for those who fell for us in the war. I remember it well, it was about 1984 I think and breached expectations of respect. He didn't have to do it because he wasn't a working man who could afford nothing else. He used a ceremony for those who gave their lives to us to score a social/political point and in accordance with societal norms it was very disrespectful to the fallen men.

I completely disagree. My dad was one of that generation. He fought in the Second World War and lost cousins and friends in it. He had no issue with Foot’s jacket. Remembering and learning lessons was the important thing, not whether a politician wore a donkey jacket or a Savile Row overcoat.

Nah, on this I disagree, he was of a generation to know it was a mark of respect. They all turn up in suits. It was a cosplay for political gain.

I’d also add if wasn’t even a donkey jacket, it was a very expensive woollen mock up pf one. Which under scores it.

He was wearing a dark green woollen coat that his wife had bought him from Harrods. The Queen Mother even complimented Foot on his coat on the day.

That’s true, yes. It just seems like a lot of money for a dress. I saw it was a VB, and apparently she chose it to support British industry, but is VB’s stuff actually made in the UK? Or is it made in developing countries? Unless it’s made from ethically sourced/recycled silk, and made in the uk by seamstresses that are paid more than living wage, it’s not worth £850. And I don’t think VB is a struggling business woman.

I’m probably just being picky, I have issues with excess and ‘designer’ stuff, I think it’s grotesque that some people are living opulent lives whilst others are depending on food banks.

Ultimately though, I thought she looked great, her tummy isn’t a flaw, and she shouldn’t be ashamed of it, but the people bitching about her body should be ashamed of themselves.

As this thread has now evolved to inlude male politicians here are my thoughts on Boris Johnson, he always reminded me of a fly tipped sofa or a overfilled bin bag And don't get me started on the hair ruffling...

The hair ruffling was deliberate. He would do it and then say ‘show time’. He wanted to come across as unkempt. ‘One of us’ rather than the privileged wealthy, white male Etonian he actually is and it workers. Psychopath.

i know he did it on purpose, all part of the stage act of being Boris, known to his family and intimates (and heaven only knows how many of them there have been!) as Al of course. Cheating on his wife while she was being treated for cancer, having an unknown number of children and being a proven liar but still people voted for him

Think it looks good for holiday wear. Not formal occasions though. And I don't see what's not flattering about that dress- she's curvy and the dress fits her perfectly.

Yes, I'm quite fed up with the persistence of this Tory press-generated urban myth that Michael Foot wore a donkey jacket to the cenotaph. He was a sweet bloke, but not really leadership material.

Quite frankly if I had gained a degree from Oxford or Cambridge university, then gone on to get a further degree, raised 3 children, and was married to the prime minister, I could spend whatever the hell I wanted on whatever the hell I wanted.

She had earned it.

I think the myth that he was wearing a donkey jacket simply because that was the coat he had is actually better for him than the reality that he deliberately chose an expensive brand new, non formal, non black coat.

He didn’t. His wife bought it for him and it was a coat he already had. He was castigated for not buying an “appropriate” coat especially for the occasion.
