Without giving away too many details. DP and my family travelled very far for the wedding and we won't see them in person again for ages.

Having a tiny wedding with just core fam and friends.

Is it a terrible idea to announce our 5/6 week pregnancy?

We really really want to. Know odds of keeping pregnancy are 90-95%.

We would be telling all these people if we had a misscarriage anyway.

I can imagine this moment being truly special and I would like to make a beautiful moment with the assumption that all will be well.

What are your thoughts?

It's an absolutely foul thing to do. It's the brides day, not yours.

It's up to you when you announce your pregnancy and I truly hope you have a successful and healthy pregnancy, but if that turned out not to be the case wouldnt it hurt to have the memory of announcing it forever linked to your wedding memories?

My concern here is if you tell them and sadly things go wrong, your wedding will be overshadowed negatively.

I would enjoy your wedding and then tell them in video calls at a later time.

If it’s your wedding, then go for it. Another reason to celebrate. If it’s not, then do not steal the bride and grooms day

I don't really understand why you'd want all that pressure on it from outside but people have different attitudes to privacy

Surely if you're the bride then the wedding is irrelevant here. The only question is whether you're happy to announce a pregnancy so early on. I wouldn't be, but many people do?

the guest list is very small, we would jsut have to ask them all to not announce it beyond the room! Closest friends and family only

Personally, I would refrain from announcing a pregnancy at just 5 - 6 weeks alone because the risk of miscarriage is much higher before 12 weeks is up (I had one at 8 weeks). So I would wait until at least then.

If you're the bride and you won't see others for ages then it seems like a perfectly nice thing to do if you'd be telling them anyway if you have a miscarriage.

im not that private a person. I wouldn't mind telling any of them if I had a misscarriage. It's actually more, could THEY get excited for it knowing its so early?

When my sister called me at 3 weeks pregnant to tell me I was told to not get excited until 12 weeks. But I am more of a celebrate and get all excited from day 1 type of person

I wouldn’t because it’s so early, but if you want to then there’s no etiquette reason not to. I don’t think we can really advise - it’s a very personal decision

I want to do it, DP is leaning towards yes too. I get emotional and excited just thinking of it

I think it’s a nice thing to do, you’d tell them if you had a miscarriage anyway. I don’t really like this whole “don’t tell anyone for 12 weeks in case there’s a miscarriage” concept, it’s like some superstitious taboo. I told people, I had miscarriages, it made it easier to cope with because my close friends and family already knew I was pregnant.

If you want to tell them then absolutely do it. It’ll be a nice family moment and a good way to end the wedding celebrations.

I think it’s entirely your choice but you really need to be prepared for people perhaps not being as overawed as you think they will be. And whilst both events are special, they are serious and life changing .. not just a super exciting TADA moment !

I think they will be so excited. My MIL has been waiting a very long time and is very expressive.... they may also assume I am 12 weeks. Then when that gets clarified i'm not i'm worried the excitement will die down a bit.
