is this a truly terrible idea?

Without giving away too many details. DP and my family travelled very far for the wedding and we won't see them in person again for ages.

Having a tiny wedding with just core fam and friends.

Is it a terrible idea to announce our 5/6 week pregnancy?

We really really want to. Know odds of keeping pregnancy are 90-95%.

We would be telling all these people if we had a misscarriage anyway.

I can imagine this moment being truly special and I would like to make a beautiful moment with the assumption that all will be well.

What are your thoughts?

If you would like to do it and they are people that you would tell if you miscarried anyway, then absolutely go for it. I’ve had two miscarriages and I told close friends and family that I was pregnant early each time. It made it much easier whilst I was going through the miscarriage to be able to message those friends and family for support. Personally I find miscarriages aren’t talked about enough and keeping pregnancies such a secret exacerbates this. (But obviously no judgement to anyone who does want to keep it a secret, we should all feel free to do whatever we want).

It was just that other people's emotions aren't necessarily helpful. It seemed possible, even likely, that I would have to terminate my pregnancy in order to receive treatment for a condition that had only been discovered during my 12 week scan, which was why I personally didn't tell anyone for ages.

I don't think I would have struggled with terminating, but I certainly didn't want other people being terribly emotional about it on my behalf.

And I've had friends miscarry and it been, for them, anything from the minor inconvenience of a late period to a complicated and heartbreaking bereavement when friends' twins died just short of whenever it is a miscarriage turns into a stillbirth. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that there's no 'standard' experience of miscarriage.

I would probably tell people if it was obvious from me not drinking but otherwise I’d probably waits
I always think you should be cautious with early pregnancies. Miscarriage is very normal.
