is this a truly terrible idea?

Without giving away too many details. DP and my family travelled very far for the wedding and we won't see them in person again for ages.

Having a tiny wedding with just core fam and friends.

Is it a terrible idea to announce our 5/6 week pregnancy?

We really really want to. Know odds of keeping pregnancy are 90-95%.

We would be telling all these people if we had a misscarriage anyway.

I can imagine this moment being truly special and I would like to make a beautiful moment with the assumption that all will be well.

What are your thoughts?

no although will your lack of alcohol be noted?

wedings · 18/07/2026 11:47

I don't drink anyway

Well it sounds like you are going to do it..not sure if we’ve helped

Tryagain26 · 18/07/2026 11:52

I don't see any reason why not. As you say only close family and friends will be there anyway and they are people you would tell and want support from if things didn't go well.
If you want to tell them do it.

wedings · 18/07/2026 11:33

I want to do it, DP is leaning towards yes too. I get emotional and excited just thinking of it

You could always wait until the day and see how you feel about it? Assuming the wedding isn't today, that is!...

Alternatively if you feel that excited about announcing it, there is a case for sharing the news with your friends and family separately when you've had your 12 week scan. Everyone will already be excited for you on your wedding day anyway so that way you will have 2 lovely moments of excitement.

magicstar1 · 18/07/2026 11:56

It’s your wedding and your pregnancy….shout it from the rooftops if you feel like it.

I can’t see anything wrong with sharing this with your closest family and friends. Have a wonderful day.

wedings · 18/07/2026 12:03

thank you, if everyone here was really against it I probably wouldn't have gone through. I cant run this by anyone in my life and am inexperienced. But I am feeling much better about it.

It's your wedding and your pregnancy and absolutely your choice when to announce it. Go for it and enjoy!

Nopuedeser · 18/07/2026 11:39

Eh? It is the OP’s wedding

Maybe read the thread..

MixedBouquets · 18/07/2026 12:15

Overthebow · 18/07/2026 11:28

This. If the pregnancy doesn’t work out this it what you’re going to associate your wedding with.

Yes, this would be my chief concern. But then I don’t get why anyone makes pregnancy announcements. I only started telling people at 19 weeks, other than DH, midwife, line manager. (For the same reason — living in another country to family.)

I have? The OP says ‘I am the bride’. Why would she be the bride if it wasn’t her wedding?

Sidebeforeself · 18/07/2026 12:19

FFS! One poster thought it wasn’t the brides wedding and then immediately realised in her next post. And the OP clarified. Confusion over, people.

JLou08 · 18/07/2026 12:21

wedings · 18/07/2026 11:25

it would also be the day after the wedding after the breakfast before everyone leaves

It sounds a lovely idea to me. If that is what you and your DH want to do, go for it.

I have? The OP says ‘I am the bride’. Why would she be the bride if it wasn’t her wedding?

As I said, you need to read the thread.

First poster to the OP (princess) said "its a foul thing to do, its the brides day" or words to that effect.

The same poster (princess) then say's "whoops, is it your wedding op?"

OP confirms it is her wedding.

Topsey then quotes the first poster to the OP (princess) saying "what a horrible thing to say, OP is the bride" and telling her to read the post.

What she failed to do is read ALL the posts, especially the one where princess says "whoops"

Darragon is pointing out the irony of Topsey telling people to read the posts when she herself has not done so.

If you re read the post this is pretty obvious.

you think announcing a pregnancy on a special day to your closest friends and family is narcissistic? @CurdinHenry im glad I don't think anyone if my life thinks like that

Yes... It's very OH MY GOD I HAVE NEWS

it's not that exciting for anyone else

wedings · 18/07/2026 12:28

I get very very excited for my close family and friends pregnancy news @CurdinHenry it's so special and fun to find out I'm going to be an aunt. I fills me with pure joy every time. My family and friends are wonderful and care too. I have no doubt it will be an amazing moment.

titchy · 18/07/2026 12:30

If you do announce it please do it in a ‘it’s very early days but we’ve just had a positive test so please keep fingers crossed’ way. It’s could be too early to even see a heartbeat, so you can’t be certain it’s a viable pregnancy at that stage.

Edenmum2 · 18/07/2026 12:31

wedings · 18/07/2026 11:31

im not that private a person. I wouldn't mind telling any of them if I had a misscarriage. It's actually more, could THEY get excited for it knowing its so early?

When my sister called me at 3 weeks pregnant to tell me I was told to not get excited until 12 weeks. But I am more of a celebrate and get all excited from day 1 type of person

If somebody told me this early I would be extremely nervous for them, through my own personal experience. Each to their own but I would for sure wait until I’d at least seen a heartbeat.

RoseField1 · 18/07/2026 12:31

PrincessofWills · 18/07/2026 11:22

It's an absolutely foul thing to do. It's the brides day, not yours.

Even if it hadn't been OP's wedding which was implied by the OP, calling this a 'foul' thing to do is absurd hyperbole. I love my relatives and if any of them had announced a pregnancy at my wedding I would have been delighted.

chillyputsomesockson · 18/07/2026 12:33

@CurdinHenry for the bride and groom’s close family and friends it may well be exciting and lovely news, and even if it’s not exciting for them, if they love the couple they’ll be excited and happy for them. Should news only be shared if it will be exciting for the recipient?

OP if you are happy to share so early then do it. It’s an exciting time. I’ve personally experienced multiple MC so I’d be more cautious, but if it was my closest friends and family, it’d be people I’d tell anyway , and they’d be excited and supportive. Congratulations to you x

CurdinHenry · 18/07/2026 12:25

Oh don't be ridiculous, of course it's going to be exciting for the prospective grandparents and aunties and uncles who are essentially the only people attending, with close friends.

chipsandpeas · 18/07/2026 12:36

i wouldnt, I had a friend who did and had a miscarriage and now on her anniversary she always has another reminder of the miscarriage

FatCatPyjamas · 18/07/2026 12:37

Do it if you really want to, but people might not be able to share your excitement until you've had the 12 week scan, for obvious reasons. That might feel a bit deflating for you when you announce and people are less enthusiastic about it than you expected.

bananaapplepears · 18/07/2026 12:39

I wouldn't. I'd feel a bit uncomfortable at being told someone was pregnant at 5 weeks too. It's far too early. You've only just missed a period.

ClairDeLaLune · 18/07/2026 13:01

Congratulations on your wedding and pregnancy OP! What an exciting time! It’s your news (and your new DH’s) so it’s up to you when and how you tell people. I personally think it would make a happy event even happier. And if things do go wrong, you will have the support of your closest people. Good luck!
