You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to others just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

A categorical no from my GP for a vaccination for me. Apparently my asthma is well controlled, and I am not at high risk teaching as the data shows children are not spreaders. As my mum is now protected, i'll just have to wait. She suggested I volunteer as they get one. I can't you stupid cow- i'm in a classroom!

After a very cross reply pointing out how outbreaks are not recorded as such in schools, I slammed the phone down and cried. And now I am FURIOUS. Even GP's swallow the schools are safe twaddle.

RandomGrammarPun · 26/02/2021 09:33

And yet our GP and dh's consultant told him that he should continue to shield from me even now he's had a vaccine dose one because I am high risk to him working in a school.

phlebasconsidered · 26/02/2021 09:35

It's such a lottery! My teacher sister had hers yesterday as her hub is phoning police, teachers and firemen with leftovers. I asked about that and that's also a no. My hub is phoning the next group down, so currently under 65's.

At 49 mine is set to be in August or July. Fuck.

RandomGrammarPun · 26/02/2021 09:39

Same. Should be in carers group because of CEV dh but we're not allowed to phone and chase.

Being late 40s sucks. Everyone is going to whooping it up either vaccinated or not giving a shit because they're 30 and under. Those of us in our forties, who know others our age who've been seriously ill, ventilated, or have long Covid are told we're lying and to suck it up.

Still quite cross about all the WFH people who've had it. (Not because of vulnerability but occupation.) Our SENDCo confirmed yesterday that she spoke to an Ed Psych who can't come in to school as it's "not yet safe" but has had the vaccine.

Appuskidu · 26/02/2021 09:39

Volunteer for what though?

RandomGrammarPun · 26/02/2021 09:41

Some of our admin staff are volunteering at the hub after school and have had a vaccine. Fair enough. Teaching staff can't, though. There is no "spare" evening.

Appuskidu · 26/02/2021 09:42

From BBC news

Prof Semple adds that data shows teachers going to school "as a workplace are no more at risk than people in general society going about their daily living and normal working environment"

Prof Semple is either a liar or a total twat.

Michino · 26/02/2021 09:43

I think my plan for getting ready for the return of the rest of the class will involve me and the KW kids making a scale drawing of the classroom with little pieces of paper representing the 18 tables we will need. We need to come up with a plan, like that Sara Beany show where they put a life size plan on the floor. It was almost literally standing room only for the adults.

phlebasconsidered · 26/02/2021 09:54

Yes, she suggested volunteering for the hub but I can't as i'm at work! Or I would.

I can't help but feel i've got the shitty end of the stick at 49, asthmatic, menopausal and the owner of the only autoimmune disease considered just fine. Obviously, the gp is about 30 and all vaccined up giving me a remote call. So are all the maked reception staff in a massive open plan office. One of my bubble kids told me their mum is "safe now" as she had it already. She works at home for a farming company. Apparently that's more essential than me.

WarriorN · 26/02/2021 10:03

I'm feeling similarly cross about how teachers are being treated re vaccine.

And no, not all sen staff / schools have had it.

JanFebAnyMonth · 26/02/2021 10:03

Yeah I was lucky enough to catch Calum Senple on R4 this morning - teachers no more at risk and children only half as likely to transmit as adults "I'm not a great fan of masks" he said.

He did talk about ventilation being important but not in a "urgently needs auditing/investment" sort of way.

JanFebAnyMonth · 26/02/2021 10:04
  • "lucky"(not) and Semple
phlebasconsidered · 26/02/2021 10:05

Every single worker at the farm company has had it. I get that food is important but I honestly had to stop myself from crying when my 32 year old neighbour working from home doing farm company accounts told me she had had it and wasn't it great?
I feel like i'm being constantly kicked in the teeth.

I would genuinely not trust the medical judgement of a GP who said this about schools/children.

They obviously haven't kept up with the developing research on children which is pretty scary!

phlebasconsidered · 26/02/2021 10:43

I don't Sansa! I am going in for a procedure with her next week and I am going to take evidence!

Mistressiggi · 26/02/2021 11:03

It is actually sunny in Scotland today. I am having my morning coffee in the garden with my face in the warm glow. A wee tiny bit of bliss in the midst of all the shite!

lonelyplanet · 26/02/2021 11:04

I spoke to my gp today as I've had a really bad week with anxiety and anger issues. I was also told not to worry as children don't transmit it and that I should be reassured by the twice weekly testing.

Mistressiggi · 26/02/2021 11:16

I have heard the exact opposite in an interview - that the child in the family was often the "first case" who then spread it to the rest of the family. Trying to remember who said it, an epidemiologist anyway.

CallmeAngelina · 26/02/2021 11:18

So, farming is important because you know, food. So tick to the jabs for them.
Schools are important because you know, education and mental health and all that. So important, in fact, that they have to open up before anything else.
But the school staff facilitating all that? Fuck 'em.

PumpkinPie2016 · 26/02/2021 11:32

We are testing 11/12/13 on Fri 5th with them returning on the Mon.

10/11 are being tested on Mon, return Tue.

7/8/9 are being tested Tue return on Wed.

No live lessons that week so a staggered return to give everyone some breathing space.

I'm having a wobble today Sad already got team members stressing, I'm stressing trying to organise/embed a few things to keep us moving forward. Not looking forward to teaching in a mask -I wear glasses and they steam upSad but visors no longer allowed. Just ordered some fabric, adjustable masks which will hopefully help.

I've been positive all the way through but I suddenly feel really stressed out Sad trying to get through Y11 mocks (and chase those who haven't sent them!). Plus got.10/13 assessments coming up too. Just all feels too much today Sad

noblegiraffe · 26/02/2021 11:36

How did that work out to alleviate your anger, lonely?

I expect it was a remote appointment with a vaccinated GP too.

WhenSheWasBad · 26/02/2021 11:40

The GP told you children don’t transmit it? Shock

I wonder if they would be prepared to put that in writing. Can’t believe GPs are buying into the schools are safe propaganda.

lonelyplanet · 26/02/2021 11:42

Yes it was a phone conversation and didn't help my anxiety at all. I have been given anti depressants but am very reluctant to start them. However not coping well so don't know what to do. The anger issues come and go but I did feel very cross that a doctor can spout such rubbish.

MrsHamlet · 26/02/2021 11:48

Why reluctant lonely?

flumposie · 26/02/2021 11:53

Been announced the next role out of vaccines is by age. Once priority groups are done its 40 - 49, 30- 39, 17- 29. Not occupations.
