You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to others just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

I'm worried about side effects and coming off them again. I also really enjoy a few drinks at the weekend and they advise against alcohol., but that is one thing that keeps me sane. Also I think they take a number of weeks 5o kick in but I need help now.

flumposie · 26/02/2021 11:54

Sorry , 18- 29.

SansaSnark · 26/02/2021 11:55

It is scary that GPs are saying children can't transmit it. I hope they aren't also saying this to their clinically vulnerable patients who live with children- that is potentially very risky!

CallmeAngelina · 26/02/2021 12:02

Children don't transmit it? What the HELL do they think was going on in schools at the back end of December then? And why did the Government close them all in January?

This makes me so ANGRY!!!!! It's gaslighting, pure and simple!!

RandomGrammarPun · 26/02/2021 12:05

It sounds that those of us in group 6 who are in our forties are going to qualify sooner by age, then, looking at the speed of the age group thing.

RandomGrammarPun · 26/02/2021 12:06

7 times more likely to be the index case in a home for teens. 7 times.

I just think it is what everyone wants to believe, including my headteacher. People are just so desperate to get back to normal that they block out all the stuff they don't want to hear.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for caring about me. I found that really kindhearted and cheered me up a bit. Did you miss my typos??

I will post later but came to plop this on the thread

But Metropolitan Police Federation chairman Ken Marsh criticised the plans to prioritise by age group, saying "it's absolutely disgusting - they don't give a damn about us"

I thought only teachers complained? I thought you don't hear the police moaning? I mean, what makes them so special?

DH getting vaccine on Sunday in some good news.

MrsHamlet · 26/02/2021 12:16

I get that lonely. I was the same. But they really did help quieten the dread, and it didn't take that long for them to start to work.
I definitely wasn't off drink!!

lonelyplanet · 26/02/2021 12:17

Glad you are back, Piggy. I don't post much but enjoy reading your posts.

Thank you, that is very reassuring. Did you get side effects?
MsAwesomeDragon · 26/02/2021 12:25

Glad you're back piggy. Is your migraine better?

I've heard loads of people moaning in real life. It's only on MN that I hear people say that teachers moan more than anyone else. Of course the police want to be vaccinated quickly, they are in close contact with loads of people, and quite a lot of the close contacts are people you really wouldn't want to get close to even in normal times.

MrsHamlet · 26/02/2021 12:27

The inside of my skull was really itchy for a bit which was distracting. I started taking them first thing in the morning rather than at night and that helped. And I was thirsty a lot to start with.

lonelyplanet · 26/02/2021 12:29

Thank you Mrs H

Monkeytennis97 · 26/02/2021 12:41

@lonelyplanet I've been on mine (citalopram) again since beginning of January although only taking 10mg still atm. Still a bit of nausea and yawning/stretching/restless leg (which I get every time I take them) but hoping it'll wear off before being back again. Hope you are ok x

MrsHamlet · 26/02/2021 12:41

Not a problem. It feels so decisive when you have them in your hand... but I needed them. I didn't want to but I did.

HarrietDVane · 26/02/2021 12:41

Glad to have you back Piggy.

Better to get started on the meds, Lonely - they start to work quite quickly and might help you feel better sooner than you think. I still drank alcohol with mine (I don't think it was flagged as a problem).

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 26/02/2021 12:44

Glad you are okay, piggy. Thank you everyone who posted nice photos of Cillian who does NOT look like Skeletor.

Middle-aged teachers are being treated appallingly. I wish I could make other people understand but they don’t. It’s easier for them If there isn’t a problem.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 26/02/2021 12:44

Feeling really panicky today. Nearly cried on 2 live lessons for no reasons.
Now got bottom set yr9 - the class who like to do zoom bombing....

Icytundra · 26/02/2021 12:45

Happy Friday everyone. Going to try to stay delurked as it's helpful to read and interact with those with similar opinions.

My GP has written a letter requesting that I WFH until just over 3 weeks after my vaccine. There's no way school can really turn down that request now is there? I'm still really worried!

Given that vaccinating GP 6 seems to be having problems, I'm not surprised that they aren't jumping in to vaccinate teachers, but that doesn't make it acceptable...

Monkeytennis97 · 26/02/2021 12:46

@BustopherPonsonbyJones 😂 different strokes for different folks eh?! (He does look like skeletor to me).😂

Monkeytennis97 · 26/02/2021 12:47

@BustopherPonsonbyJones agree as a late 40s secondary teacher -we are being treated appallingly, seen so many wfh friends younger and early 50s getting jab in last few days. Just got to hope it'll be soon...

Police get regularly shafted.

I’m sure I remember a senior police office explaining that cutting the force to the bone would lead to more knife crime.
Teresa May cut their budget to the bone, and we’ve all watch knife crime go up.

WhenSheWasBad · 26/02/2021 13:24

Oh good to see you back piggy

I’ve got a few kids who haven’t done much over lockdown. Some not their fault at all, others just couldn’t be arsed.

A parent just “reassured” me that her kid will ask for lots of extra support in her free periods once we are back at school. I already work full time, what’s this kid going to do, sit at the back of my year 7 classes hoping for extra tuition?

Beachhuts90 · 26/02/2021 13:24

I hope you being back means your migraine is gone, piggy!

Reading the news today it does feel like they will do anything to not vaccinate teachers. I feel for police too, I have some anecdata of police giving first aid to members of the public and surely that would count as frontline!
