You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to others just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

@RigaBalsam

Funny that. Hmm
That man is such a fucking arse.
JanFebAnyMonth · 26/02/2021 16:46

That's exactly the flaw in the plan I discovered today, whilst chatting to a Y10 boy who gets a lift in usually - he's not keen (- one might say he found it a bit wank, were he Bob -) on having to come to the town where school is for at most an hour of test plus wait, then hang around for hours before his working mum can give him a lift back. So may well not test. We have many on school buses too.

Dep Head says we can provide parking for parents but we can't accommodate waiting children, which I can see.

So I think many many kids are going to miss the first test, but take the next two because they're in school for normal lessons at that point.

Which is better than nothing, apart from the fact that it omits the important step of testing everyone BEFORE they all mix again.

Which is what will happen after Easter anyway (although presumably those home testing will he asked to do one on the last day of the holidays?)

It's all great isn't it?!

RigaBalsam · 26/02/2021 16:48

Does anyone know if the tests have to be 5 days apart? My husbands school is testing them on Thursday and Monday. Does the day 1 and 5 count as the 5 days?

RandomGrammarPun · 26/02/2021 16:50

Between 3 and 5.

Ours are going to be Mon/Thurs/Mon for some year groups and Tues/Fri/Tues for others.

Saucery · 26/02/2021 16:51

Oh god, parking! It’s a sodding nightmare round DS’s school and the residents are super-arsey.
He’s having a think about whether to test or not, anyway. Just like I did when we were offered the LFTs. If it had meant standing in front of the school secretary gagging and trying not to be sick then it would have been a No from me.

RigaBalsam · 26/02/2021 16:55

It's actually really immoral and also pretty stupid not to have done all the emergency services at the same as the NHS.

Stupid, because how does society function if high numbers of police are ill or self-isolating. Teachers, of course, too, but If we have to send classes home because of staffing, we do.

It seems that prison officers/police/SEN staff/nursery staff seem to have been done on a postcode lottery basis if their local authority has asked the large hubs to include them.

Total dereliction of duty to not have them included officially.

Monkeytennis97 · 26/02/2021 17:20

JVT telling the vaccinated to follow the rules there.

piggywaspushed · 26/02/2021 17:21

Just filled in NASUWT survey. That was liberating.

Thanks just checking my emails
chocolateisavegetable · 26/02/2021 17:23

FUCK OFF MATT

Sorry about that - as you were

RigaBalsam · 26/02/2021 17:25

Omg Hancock Teachers are no more likely!!

Has the new strain ever been investigated! No!!!!!!!!

JVT mentions death but no infections. Says its to save lives and teachers aren't at the top essentially. Ffs!

RigaBalsam · 26/02/2021 17:26

Basically they are saying its quicker this way. By age.

TheHoneyBadger · 26/02/2021 17:27

Did my survey too. I struggled a bit with the tick the five things you enjoy the most about your job question lol. I do enjoy it but five was a stretch.

RandomGrammarPun · 26/02/2021 17:32

OMG. JVT hates teachers: "just concentrate on teaching..."

(re the suggestion that some primary schools have been asking for masks in the classroom...)

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 26/02/2021 17:35

I'm glad that my policy of not watching any briefing or press conferences is helping keep down my rage. I can just about cope when I get the info filtered through you lot. "Just concentrate on teaching" how fucking patronising.

RandomGrammarPun · 26/02/2021 17:37

It was worse than I've made it sound. He starts to read out a list of people more at risk than teachers and says..."I could go on, you get the picture..."

piggywaspushed · 26/02/2021 17:37

I don't believe theses schools exist. U4T have made it up.

RandomGrammarPun · 26/02/2021 17:39

I mean, have they picked on any other group to be so dismissive to?!

The questioner was only asking because of disruption to education, not because of teachers' health. They answer these questions now as if it's one of us whining not a genuine question from a member of the public/parent concerned about disruption etc...

JanFebAnyMonth · 26/02/2021 17:45

Zoe have got 1470 schools taking part in their school community study! (Parents log symptoms and tests for children, the whole school gets unique data, iirc from when they launched it):

piggywaspushed · 26/02/2021 17:46

I am a bit peed off with the focus on teachers actually. If Hugh had asked about police maybe they would ahve got dismissed instead, for a change.

piggywaspushed · 26/02/2021 17:46

Matt just told us all to stay at home, so...

Can't find his Twitter to tell him that.
GuyFawkesDay · 26/02/2021 17:50

Spoke to my doctor friend today on the park, she says the admin of finding teachers/registering etc would make it slower to sinister the vaccine than just rolling it out by age as they've got all the data.

It makes sense.

Very grateful for a thoroughly sensible Headteacher and SLT. It makes life so much easier.

GuyFawkesDay · 26/02/2021 17:50

Sinister? Administer
