You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to others just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.
@lonelyplanet I’ve always been prone to anxiety but tried to manage it through diet and exercise. Since becoming peri-menopausal it has worsened and last August I just broke with the fear of returning in Sept. I called my GP and I explained my fears of being on antidepressants- my mum took them all her life and she always still seemed depressed. GP convinced me to take Sertraline as she concluded I have OCD rather than depression. Honestly changed my life.
Thank you, it is helpful to hear positive stories, I made the mistake of googling reviews of Sertraline. Lots of people said it made them feel worse for weeks and that they couldn't get off them again.

piggywaspushed · 26/02/2021 15:15

An outbreak has just been redefined as two cases in 14 days.

phlebasconsidered · 26/02/2021 15:20

That's interesting thanks piggy.

lonelyplanet · 26/02/2021 15:21

@piggywaspushed

That will pick up more cases won't it? It was 10 before I think.
@Saucery a bit like the buses my two kids will be getting again from Monday! I tell you, those school coaches are nasty! Grin
Yes, exactly! You can have all the theoretical mitigations and tests you like but if they are piling onto school coaches there isn’t a lot of point, is there!

piggywaspushed · 26/02/2021 15:26

Yes, it is to bring it into line with other places.

motherrunner · 26/02/2021 15:27

There was a thread in AIBU a few weeks ago about Sertraline where the OP said she couldn’t believe she had waited all her life to take it. Cue all of us chilling and saying we just felt ‘normal’ after taking it. I don’t feel happy, sad, high, manic. Just me. Will see if I can find it.

motherrunner · 26/02/2021 15:30

@lonelyplanet Here’s the thread I mentioned:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4143741-that-sertraline-makes-me-realise-how-mental-i-ve-been-for-the-last-decade-at-least?msgid=103911728

So many positive Sertraline stories.

motherrunner · 26/02/2021 15:32

@lonelyplanet If you want to PM me to ask about it you’re more than welcome.

motherrunner · 26/02/2021 15:33

I meant ‘chilling in’, not ‘chilling’.

I can never ‘chill’. Even in sertraline 😆

JanFebAnyMonth · 26/02/2021 15:41

But doesn't there have to be reasonable "proof" that the two cases are "linked"? ie PHE decide.... I might be wrong

Hi piggy!

piggywaspushed · 26/02/2021 15:41

So, DS's school is starting all its testing next week but not getting students physically back on site until the 15th!

It makes no sense at all. Three tests , last one 5 full days before school return.

It also assumes parents can ferry kids backwards and forwards to tests between the hours of 9 and 3. Three times. Ermmm. No. Because will be at work.

Saucery · 26/02/2021 15:43

Just had a similar communication from DS’s school, piggy
Carefully hidden in there is the info that if consent not given then they just return on their designated day anyway. Up to DS really, I can’t give consent for an over 16 yr old.

piggywaspushed · 26/02/2021 15:50

It also says they can't have home testing kits if they haven't done the three at school...but I can. Why if he is 16?

Saucery · 26/02/2021 15:54

I know, stupid, isn’t it?

Saucery · 26/02/2021 15:56

That might swing it to a No from DS, tbh. Which I’m not going to argue with him about, because there are reasons and they are his reasons and as an adult who has done every single thing required of him throughout this I think he has the right to decline a test which may cause him problems.

piggywaspushed · 26/02/2021 15:58

So, there are loads of kids (the majority!) who are bussed to DS's school. Therefore, unless parents are available and can be arsed most of them won't participate in testing.

hedgehogger1 · 26/02/2021 16:13

I called docs today and asked if they could tell me whether I'd just have to wait for under 40s slot (by a few months). Pointed out I was asthmatic and had previously been in hospital with pneumonia and needed a nebuliser. They weren't really interested but thought it was worth asking

RigaBalsam · 26/02/2021 16:14

Hugs to all. It's shit!

So we are starting testing on the 8th testing a year group a day. Starting with y11. If negative they return to school the day after. My dd will test on the Friday and return full on 15th.

RigaBalsam · 26/02/2021 16:16

Funny that. Hmm

Thank you so much for sharing this; it is really helpful.

motherrunner · 26/02/2021 16:33

My pleasure @lonely. As I said please PM me. I was scared of taking ‘anti-depressants’ but honestly, I wish I had done this decades ago.

motherrunner · 26/02/2021 16:37

@lonely My GP was fab. She made me see OCD is a chemical imbalance that needs medication to stabilise. She used to speak to me every month, now it’s every 3 months. Tbh if it wasn’t for her support I don’t think I would’ve tried (Other GPS in the past made me feel hysterical).

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 26/02/2021 16:40

Well, I think we're starting testing with Y11 on Monday. Putting them in classrooms in tutor groups then testing them. If there are any positives, then I guess the whole tutor group/close contacts goes home, the rest will be staying in until the end of the day. The same will happen with Y10 on Tuesday, etc. I assume that once they are in they are in, i.e. Y11 will attend all week, Y10 will attend from Tuesday etc. Lots of bussed children here though too, so it will be interesting to see if how it all works

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 26/02/2021 16:40

Oh my god, I've got the RAGE ON TODAY. Well no, just this afternoon.

Old farts everywhere out sitting in the park, having a coffee on a bench, standing around chatting in the market. Next it'll be them off on holidays because they can afford to quarantine.

Time to step away from the SM methinks.
