Hello all! Welcome to any school staff looking to improve their diet/exercise in 2021!

Last year I lost 5 stone and my BMI dropped from 42 to 28. My aim this year is to drop another 2 stone to get into the 'normal' weight category and to improve my stamina with jogging.

Welcome all!Smile

I need to join too. I have (at least Blush) 3 stone to lose so that I can be happy in my own skin. Doing all these online video lessons is my worst nightmare as I hate how I look at the moment. I'm well aware that this is how the pupils have to look at me anyway, but I don't usually have to see me.

Not sure how I'm going to do it - probably a combination of eat less and move more. We have a dog who is a willing walking companion but not sure my right hip would be up for running. Swimming pools and gyms are all closed around here so they're not an option Sad

Will step on the scales later and report back. Let's all encourage each other to do this!

Neuro there were some No Suits in the lakes last Feb. I was in awe! They were wearing hats and gloves. Our beaches are a bit grotty but the lakes and certain monitored converted quarry pits are fine. I’ve promised myself I’ll get a big changing towel and go for it when it warms up, if we ever get out of Tier 4.
Used to do it all the time as a child and teenager. It wasn’t even a ‘thing’ then, just what you did when you went up to the family caravan by Windermere. Swam in all temperatures in just a cossie.

ChloeDecker · 01/01/2021 14:37

Went for a brisk New Years Day walk earlier-starting small!

I’m a size 12 - not bad on the face of it at all but I feel sluggish, have drunk too much and my skin is not in good nick. I need a healthier outlook and exercise beyond the CBeebies: Oti’s Boogie Beebies Grin

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/01/2021 14:45

Did an hours walk - not fast but out and about.

I also did C25K - started in January last year and loved it. Got to 36m for 5K but then my hip went funny and everything has gone downhill from there. I’d also just built myself up for gym, had a PT session managed to brave fling once and it was ok and then it all shut 😱

Planning on slow 3.5k loop for slow jogging initially alongside some strengthening exercises from my living room....glad to be teaching remotely next week so I might be able to fit it in as I won’t need to be arriving at work at 7 and being there until 6.30...

phlebasconsidered · 01/01/2021 14:47

@Saucery we swum in the summer in some rivers - really lovely!

I really also need to not drink so much.

phlebasconsidered · 01/01/2021 14:49

And do pelvic floor exercises. By the time it's 12 lunch in the classroom and i haven't weed all day i dread sneezing.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 01/01/2021 14:51

I can't run or jog. Sad A hip operation 5 years ago put paid to that. But I do love a zumba class or a west end workout. Both currently cancelled and I struggle to find the time to fit any in online in a busy house. So it will be general being more active that I will be looking forward to.

And meal planning.

I've also booked a t2 diabetes test at the local pharmacy for saturday next weekend. It was getting that diagnosis that really shocked dh into losing weight for the.first time in his life.

I looked amazing at a size 12 and 11 stone. But I will settle first for losing a stone.

Birthday in feb so that's my mini goal. A stone by then...maybe.

RigaBalsam · 01/01/2021 14:55

Last Jan I was doing 5k in less than 30 mins. Just tried now took my 45 my legs are burning. Well at least it's a start.Grin

HarrietDVane · 01/01/2021 14:58

It’s DD’s birthday on Sunday and she wants chocolate fudge cake. Sigh. This is usually where my new year slippery slope starts as I have no self control.

ChloeDecker · 01/01/2021 15:00

Paddle boarding was a great hit in this household last summer. Lovey spots on the river Medway in Kent and often wouldn’t see a soul. Seemed safer at times that walking on paths/pavements!

CountDuckulasCranberrySauce · 01/01/2021 15:01

Thanks monkey, 2 stone to lose here. Going to start small and give myself a weekly non related target. Week one is no buying of junk food. Just made a batch of cookies so not sure it works on a non school day!

Monkeytennis97 · 01/01/2021 15:02

Just done a 2 mile walk. Not very far but it's a start again (normally try and walk about 7-10 miles a day in total).Smile

Hi all, I just joined in on the main thread, can I join in here? I'm 14 St 4lb, which is 10lb higher than the start of December! I lost two stone last year and so want to lose three more I think. I'm a runner, between 5 and 10k each day, but blimy I can eat a lot. Ran this morning and then have walked the dog for two hours around a lovely wetland, but then came home and had beans on toast and had five (FIVE) pieces of toast Shock
So portion control and less alcohol for me this year I think.

Monkeytennis97 · 01/01/2021 15:04

I'll tell you what I am definitely going to seek out once we're 'back to normal'... adult ballet classes. I used to play piano as a teenager at a ballet school and loved watching all the dancers, so graceful and poised. Does anyone do that?

No but my DD’s ballet and tap teacher does offer so I may well consider once she can re-open!
ChloeDecker · 01/01/2021 15:07

Ulelia hello!

Portion control is sooooo hard in December/Christmas hols isn’t it?!

HarrietDVane · 01/01/2021 15:15

I’m just greedy, I think. Sugar is a problem for me: if I cut it right down, I do much better in terms of weight loss and sticking to the plan. If I eat the sweet stuff it just seems to make me hungrier and hungrier. So my initial plan is to cut back my sugar consumption and eat more veg, and hope for the best.

Ulelia · 01/01/2021 15:17

Very hard! And I'm so bad at eyeballing portion size, and then HAVE to clear my plate.

ChloeDecker · 01/01/2021 15:28

Saw this and thought of all you lovely lot! We can do this!

Potatoes, bread and cheese. Left to my own devices I would eat nothing else . I tell myself jacket potatoes are healthy but they're not the way I make them! I have ordered myself a big hot food container and i'm going to soup it for lunch every day.

I always do at least 12k steps a day anyway but when I lose weight I usually do about 16. The dog has loved this fortnight as he's done 10km every day with me. The problem is that i'm so exhausted when I get in and have the marking to do that I just can't be arsed to go out in the dark after doing it.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 01/01/2021 15:44

We still have lots of festive food lefybhere and hate waste but will be enjoying the weekend then starting properly when back in school on monday..facing goodness knows what as our authority have yet to make up their minds.

Routine is what I crave and need to do well. Spending far too much time sitting around reading and watching films.

I will be tracking on nutracheck. And avoiding treats while watching carbs and portion size.

Cantaloupeisland · 01/01/2021 15:48

Checking in. I don't need to lose weight but I am massively unfit, compounded by a buggered back and fibromyalgia. I hate exercise so much, the smallest thing leaves me in pain for days, but I know I'm making it worse by doing nothing... Gah!

flumposie · 01/01/2021 15:52

Hello. Thanks for this thread. In 2017/18 I lost 24 pounds which took me to a size twelve. I was motivated to do this as I knew I would be meeting some actors/actresses at a convention and so for vanity reasons I didn't want to look fat Grin however during lockdown and the last 2 weeks I've piled most of it back on. My new motivation will be a big birthday in April. Today I will be joining slimming world online ( code PHE2021 gives you a discount) and starting my exercise regime from next week. Good luck everyone.

I recommend some Pilates with your bad back. Obvs not face to face instruction yet but see if there are any YouTube videos or similar. Before 2020, I was doing Pilates weekly for about 12 years. Was the only thing to help my back (had two prolapsed discs in my 20s) including the rubbish support provided by my physiotherapist back then!
raspberryrippleicecream · 01/01/2021 16:04

Hello everyone.

I've lost nearly two stone since first lock down, next aim for a another 3lb to get to overweight instead of obese.

There is a good free programme called Couch to Fitness, run by Our Parks which I can recommend, same principle as Couch to 5k for non-runners.

Also, in my school class we do Joe Wick's 5 minute workouts which are also good for a quick fix!
