You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

Yes to getting them fruit picking! Ticks all the boxes!

Our risk assessment says that any child who 'breaks' a bubble, or does anything involving spit/licking, is straight out and not allowed back this term. We've already said no to several children who are unable to do the above.

I was very very relieved that ours says the same. We have some children who may do better in a quiet, controlled environment.

I feel very, very sorry for the supportive parents at home with SEBD. We are going to do as much as possible to get them boxes made up for sensory diets etc at home. That’s really all we have just now.

WhyNotMe40 · 19/05/2020 20:14

Shock. How did they find out? Did the child let it slip?

RigaBalsam · 19/05/2020 20:22

Staggered time for pick up examples from a nearby primary school.

The 3.30 one is the key workers.

RigaBalsam · 19/05/2020 20:24

Starry that would not surprise me one bit.

MossWalk · 19/05/2020 20:24

Turns out parent tested positive previous day and they were still sent into school.

And I presume parent felt ropey for a few days before getting the test and or results. Absolutely dreadful. I hope your friends are all well Flowers

starrynight19 · 19/05/2020 20:27

Whynotme40 not sure , but I am just so fed up of all this before we even return full time.
They weren’t on the rota so just finding out from colleagues.
Apparently the school hasn’t closed but insisted pupil self isolates for 14 days.
We are back on the 8th after a deep clean the previous week.

CallmeAngelina · 19/05/2020 20:33

I think anyone who doesn't believe that this will be widespread is just naive.
We had it before Lockdown, with a child very upset and out-of-sorts. The class TA managed to eventually get it out of her why she was so worried - Dad was ill with suspected Covid and was awaiting test result (no idea how he managed to get one). Child nonetheless sent into school and told not to tell anyone, (hence the worried upset).
Dad is one of our governors!! Angry

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 19/05/2020 20:38

Hello, may I join? I have biscuits.

Primary teacher here with secondary DP. DP is over 60. I'm feeling anxious.

pinkrocker · 19/05/2020 20:38

Sorry to derail (again) but is there anyone here who hasn't heard from their HT about what's going to happen or been told about what plans are being discussed or hasn't been asked if they're willing to come in extra? Or been asked to do a H&S check on their room?

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2020 20:39

Not heard a dickie bird

starrynight19 · 19/05/2020 20:44

pinkrocker we had lots of plans sent Monday last week then all went quiet after Union intervention.
So have a vague idea of what might happen when we go back.

CallmeAngelina yes I should imagine it will just be another ‘illness’ another ‘excuse’ Sad

GravityFalls · 19/05/2020 20:44

Nothing official yet. Principal has apparently flip-flopped all over the place, and has told us to await information tomorrow or Thursday. HoD seemed to think we wouldn’t be going in but doesn’t actually know much better than anyone else. However has been giving cryptic responses to questions making me and my colleague worry - me because I have no childcare (one child in Y1 who I don’t want to send, and even if I did send her, it’s 9.45-2.45 from the 8th so fuck all use to me, and one child in Y4), and my colleague because his partner is extremely vulnerable and shielding.

pfrench · 19/05/2020 20:49

Interesting about it being a vulnerable parent who is an issue.

My brother has the option of sending his children in to school as both him and his wife are key workers. They've managed childcare and home schooling so far, but both are needing to work more now. They've spent ages dithering about whether to send the children back after half term - as KW children, not as the increased provision kids.

Their concern was it being children of Drs or police, but I suggested that more of a concern is the children who are vulnerable - being that the reckless and feckless are the parents of the vulnerable, and they are much more likely to not be consistent with guidance when it comes to their behaviour. Having said that, the ch at my school are vulnerable rather than KW, and it feels pretty safe for some reason.

WhyNotMe40 · 19/05/2020 21:04

I've not heard details. We will be going back for all year 20s on a reduced timetable was the last I was actually told, but I have since heard that the head is having second thoughts....

WhyNotMe40 · 19/05/2020 21:05

Year 10s!

Danglingmod · 19/05/2020 21:05

Nothing here yet.

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2020 21:10

Oh, how I wish someone would start a thread on how we are NOT DENMARK.

But we all know how that will go...

MsAwesomeDragon · 19/05/2020 21:14

I'm awaiting an announcement before the end of play tomorrow. Not before the 8th June at the earliest.

Asuitablecat · 19/05/2020 21:32

Slt working on.it this week. But cags more important at the moment. They have said health and safety is paramount s nd said not to worry.

TheHoneyBadger · 19/05/2020 21:33

Can you not reply I am waiting to see if it is safe? Even the government are saying, might open, if x y z. How can teachers be expected to give a definite answer when we don’t know yet what is actually proposed, whether it’s safe and what the infection, admission and death rates will be in a fortnight?

Useruseruserusee · 19/05/2020 21:38

Before lockdown we had a parent in hospital with a confirmed case. Mum kept bringing the child in to school for at least a week without telling anyone.

We only found out in the end as another parent asked if we knew that x’s dad was in hospital with covid.

Mum saw no issue bringing him in and kicked up a fuss when she had to collect him!

This was the week before lockdown and lots in that class were isolating with coughs. But no one was tested so who knows if it spread or not.

WhyNotMe40 · 19/05/2020 21:41

ShockShockShock

starrynight19 · 19/05/2020 21:44

UserUseruserusee Sad I expect this will be the norm

Useruseruserusee · 19/05/2020 21:48

Public Health England were useless as well, there was no clear advice given as no one had been in prolonged contact of 15 mins plus with the actual parent. It doesn’t inspire trust for how it will be handled in June.

I know what the guidelines say about just keeping the bubble at home in the event of a positive test but our risk assessment says we will close the school for deep cleaning.

A thread on AIBU with an interesting twist - that MNers are no longer allowed to criticise teachers :o

OP new to MN, of course.
