You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

Love to be a fly on the wall in Angela’s living room tonight. What’s rattled here so much I wonder?

TheHoneyBadger · 19/05/2020 17:46

Yes piggy. 545. I’m not seeing a significant and consistent drop of fatalities in that number.

RigaBalsam · 19/05/2020 17:47

I am glad I switched the briefing off in time!

Most entertaining its ever been. I know its a low bar? Grin

It could be anything Appu it could be the reported that the Scientists are getting the blame from that MP this morning.

TheHoneyBadger · 19/05/2020 17:49

Actually really sad talking about reopening things and easing in the context of 545. I dread what the numbers could be 3 weeks ish after the change in branding, (that’s all I can call it, not policy), to, “stay alert”.

GrimmsFairytales · 19/05/2020 17:52

Glad to have found you all. Is there room for another who is feeling so down about the whole situation, and sick of being told I can solve any problem if I just have a can do attitude. Sad

phlebasconsidered · 19/05/2020 18:08

I have a just fuck off attitude.

And all the utter wank about county lines. If they really cared then perhaps they'd have not cut social and child services to the extent that now we as a school deal with the cuckoos and runners rather than wait for an actual bloody response from the police or social services. We know who they are, we know the ones at risk and they're in school anyway.

Mistressiggi · 19/05/2020 18:27

Phlebas that sounds like it should be on a mug Grin

cheesecurdsandgravy · 19/05/2020 18:29

Perhaps on the bottom of a mug, that normally lives on a shelf and is only brought down on VERY special occasions or for very special people...

namechangedyetagain · 19/05/2020 18:29

Thank you so much @TheHoneyBadger, @Piggywaspushed and @NeurotrashWarrior for your help. It's really appreciated as I know you have more to worry about than potential students. Who I can imagine could be a complete PITA that teachers may not want next year. I probably am idealistic, sadly I've worked in school and seen enough experienced fantastic teachers go to know that school life isn't all about the children and creating well rounded people who love learning any more. But it really should be shouldn't it?

Am I just deluded? Am I going to drop out after term 2? A

pfrench · 19/05/2020 18:49

Our risk assessment says that any child who 'breaks' a bubble, or does anything involving spit/licking, is straight out and not allowed back this term. We've already said no to several children who are unable to do the above.

This is going to be really hard for certain SEND children and parents. Not sure how best to deal with it.

Asuitablecat · 19/05/2020 18:56

I have the solution.

Parents need childcare for the economy.

Farmers need stuff picking.

Traditionally, kids finished for the summer to help on farms.

Ta dah!

Busy: bam!
Looked after: bam!
Learning: bam!
Obesity crisis: bam!

minisoksmakehardwork · 19/05/2020 19:07

@pfrench - I don't know how to deal with that either. It would depend on the child and the reason for their reaction as to whether I would want them to be excluded. I would expect a lot of the send children to be cocooned almost in the learning support department. They might not access the curriculum in the same way as their peers but at least they would be getting the help and support they need in other ways.

RigaBalsam · 19/05/2020 19:08

Yes Asuitable!

We sent an email letter to our head from the NEU last week and she completely understood and has not involved us in any planning. However, we’ve had an email this morning asking us to let her know by tomorrow whether we will be involved in school opening for Y6 on June 2nd. I’m completely torn and advice from NEU is that we write and tell her that our union says it isn’t safe and are currently in negotiations with government. I so want to go back for some normality but have never gone against union instructions . Has anyone else had to do this?

pfrench · 19/05/2020 19:12

Yep mini, I would for example, not mind being with one of these children on a day to day basis, but we need to get the initial 'stuff' out of the way first in terms of logistics. We have runners/wanderers, but they can't do that at the moment obviously. I'd also want the option of PPE.

But it won't happen. Lots of these children are sheilding or super vulnerable, and are having specific work sent home/have parents who are on the ball with it.

pfrench · 19/05/2020 19:15

Write that. Then ring her and have a proper conversation about it so you know what you're saying isn't safe. That's what we've done. She agrees with us, and is stalling on opening anyway just in case the R thingy changes situations. I've not been asked specifically to go back, but I have reasons for needing to be home around partner having surgery (I'd be off on compassionate leave half way through the term, which would mean I stuff up a bubble). Others have definitely been notified of what she'd like them to do.

CallmeAngelina · 19/05/2020 19:17

Does that mean that if you decide you won't be, that from then on you will be unpaid?

JimmyGrimble · 19/05/2020 19:20

Angelina No I don’t think so. I think she wants numbers so she can finalise plans. It could come to that though I suppose. There are quite a few of us in the NEU and we’re all saying no.

eitak22 · 19/05/2020 19:29

Meeting for LSAs tomorrow to find out plan but some staff found out today and were positive our head is trying to put safety first so that promising.

CallmeAngelina · 19/05/2020 19:33

But isn't it a bit like striking? And therefore unpaid? I mean, I feel the same way, but am kind of thinking I'm just going to have to suck it up, (and I know that therein lies the problem).

If it IS unpaid, would you still decide not to return?

RigaBalsam · 19/05/2020 19:35

I really hope they don't go against the test track and trace thing. Who am I kidding?

A secondary school near me has said 8th at the earliest. So thats three in the area.

Appuskidu · 19/05/2020 19:52

But isn't it a bit like striking? And therefore unpaid? I mean, I feel the same way, but am kind of thinking I'm just going to have to suck it up, (and I know that therein lies the problem).

Yep-my head said that yesterday it would be unpaid if we just refused to go in.

pfrench · 19/05/2020 19:59

We're def 8th, my child's school is 3rd. We haven't got time to sort out classrooms before half term considering more and more 'guidance' seems to forthcoming every flippin night. School not open over half term at all, cant go in, caretaker off and everything. We're all done in.

starrynight19 · 19/05/2020 20:08

I have no words this is what we are up against.
Friend works in local high school.
Vulnerable child comes into school as they have done throughout.
Turns out parent tested positive previous day and they were still sent into school.
It this how it’s going to be Sad
