You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

Interesting also about results after Katrina given high deprivation. My BIL was caught up in Katrina and his girls did miss school for ages.

RigaBalsam · 18/05/2020 21:39

It is I wish a media outlet would analyse this from an attainment point of view. Think would stop a lot of worrying.

Piggywaspushed · 18/05/2020 21:42

Definitely would. Would make us look at how other countries have coped in the past with school shutdowns rather than making things up as we go along.

RigaBalsam · 18/05/2020 21:42

Exactly Piggy.

BBC news...

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has said in a BBC interview that it is right to reopen schools. Speaking amid a row about the safety of bringing teachers and children back to the classroom from 1 June, he says he believes the government's approach is based on evidence.

"I don’t think they would say that they’re putting school opening above health risks. What they’re doing is basing it on the evidence, actually. There are countries that have reopened parts, at least, of their school system.

"If you look at all the best evidence, and my institute has assembled a lot of the different data on this, especially for younger children, the risks of transmission are actually quite low."

Tony Blair believes there is evidence to suggest something is true?

Isn’t that how he started a war...?!

Piggywaspushed · 18/05/2020 21:46

Oh, there they go with their 'other countries' bullshit again.

Piggywaspushed · 18/05/2020 21:47

Poor old Kier won't know what he is meant to say now!

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/05/2020 21:49

Oh god, yes poor kier! Jeeze, my brain burst with the politics of that one!

An amusing (ish) teacher question I saw posted; can ofsted deep dive into a bubble? 🤔 🐟 🐠 🌊

pfrench · 18/05/2020 21:50

Ok, the next thing they need to do is talk about other things kids can catch that are serious.

Then talk about what 'low transmission really means in comparison to those other things.

I don't give a shit about what Tony Bliars institute has found. All the people commenting on this are toxic when it comes to issues of truth and trust.

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 18/05/2020 21:51

Not directly school related, but can I just share the lovely irony of this piece? HSE aren't doing the promised Covid safety spot checks because it isn't safe for HSE to work!

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 18/05/2020 21:53

Also can somebody please talk me down from resenting friends who whine about schools being shut while working indefinitely from the safety of their own homes?

Piggywaspushed · 18/05/2020 21:56

The post viral thing I was talking about before in response to 'only' 1:1000 children get Kawasaki was Reyes syndrome. It appears to be way more rare than Kawasaki's and yet children still can't take aspirin because of it , in case it increases the chance of Reye's after chickenpox, for example.

It looks a touch like post Covid Kawaskai's is a more common complication than post viral Reye's syndrome.

Piggywaspushed · 18/05/2020 21:56

However!

There's one caveat to the aspirin rule, however. Children and teenagers who have certain chronic diseases, such as Kawasaki disease, may need long-term treatment with drugs that contain aspirin.

RigaBalsam · 18/05/2020 21:57

Was the Reyes the reason they banned bonjela use for kids?

Piggywaspushed · 18/05/2020 21:58

Reyes got Bonjela banned!

Sorry, fallen down a rabbit hole...

Piggywaspushed · 18/05/2020 21:58

Ah, what a cross post!!

RigaBalsam · 18/05/2020 22:00

I remember medicine being removed from shelves too and the age of medised changed. I feel like I dreamt that though.

Piggywaspushed · 18/05/2020 22:05

you can't get anything these days : motilium banned, Zantac banned (neither of those are for kids obviously), medised gone. no Bonjela.

Imagine if Calpol went!

eitak22 · 18/05/2020 22:17

Can LSAs join? (Technically a qualified teacher) need some solace from certain people in my fb page and general mumsnet.

Our teachers are having a meeting tomorrow about June so will see what is said...

Piggywaspushed · 18/05/2020 22:17

Of course you can! :)

pinkrocker · 18/05/2020 22:27

Wait, bonjela is no more? Is that why DD has to use Iglu with her braces? Which is crap! (anbesol is better anyhoo)

RigaBalsam · 18/05/2020 22:30

You can still get Junior bonjela. Anbesol is amazing for brace pain.

pinkrocker · 18/05/2020 22:40

Is it? I always thought it was adult only! Panic over. Thanks!

(I've a feeling watching Outbreak on Netflix wasn't my wisest idea, but I'm visually measuring up the natty yellow suits and working out how many marigolds I'll need to make one for when I'm back in school...)

Asuitablecat · 18/05/2020 22:53

You need to.watch the belgian series from.the other year. Cordon. That was about a virus that breaks out from a lab.
