Maybe don't repeat it on here.

What in the sweet little baby Jesus? I never even heard that one.

”It takes an enemy to cut you once core and <a supporter> to repeat it.” Indeed.

Why was the royal rota there? Do they generally cover the events of private citizens?

The Rota is made up of Royal reporters who cover royal family members. If they are not allocated by the Rota system to be the single press representative to cover a particular event for a working Royal Family member, they are free agents to cover anything anyone else in the family are doing.

School kids coming out to see the nearby Prince/Princess is pretty common practice as far as I’m aware!

(And the Lord Chancellor’s letter didn’t say Meghan and Harry are private citizens, it said they are “akin to private citizens”. A small but subtle difference there)

"(And the Lord Chancellor’s letter didn’t say Meghan and Harry are private citizens, it said they are “akin to private citizens”. A small but subtle difference there)"

What's the difference? They don't represent the King, they don't represent the royal family, they are doing stuff in the capacity of private citizens do, not as royals. If schoolkids want to see them because they are celebrities or famous, then cool for them, but they have nothing to do with the institution of the royal family or the head of state.

No, I've never heard this stuff. I've no idea why it's being repeated on here.

So do we know whether or not it was an official allocation by the rota? My impression is that it was. There was a lot of press there.

I would not want my child let off lessons to go and stare at a mentally unstable drug addict and his wife whose life work amounts to jam making and being a shag interest on cable TV. Some parents and schools have strange priorities.

They said themselves when they came back that they are private citizens, didn't they? What actual difference has the Lord Chancellor's statement made, if they are holding events that look like royal events like this (albeit shite ones)?

It’s awful, misogynistic, private and I am very glad it’s rare here.

DaisyDooley · Today 17:47

I wonder why she’s not wearing her engagement ring?
I know they were/are working royals (unlike Meghan) but Camilla, Catherine, Sophie, Anne, Diana, The Late Queen - always wore/wear their engagement rings on any visits.
I don’t think I have ever seen Catherine with just her wedding ring on her ring finger.

I wonder what they are hoping to gain from this? Visits to charities on industrial estates will only give them publicity for a limited period.
Without the glamour of Tiara wearing state banquets, Balcony appearances at Trooping the Colour, Carriage rides at Ascot - it’s just two people visiting a charity. Since there’s nothing in it for them -no money, no royal adjacency, no public funded security no A list events -how long will they do this?
The nights are drawing in, the sky will be grey daily soon and it’s getting colder.
Will the pull of SoCal be too much for Meghan to bear I wonder.

Are you able to identify the schools which interrupted their pupils' education to cheer private citizens? I intend to do an FOI to Nottingham City Education Dept regarding parent permissions and the line of decision making.

Overkill. The education department is unlikely to have any information about it anyway.

If you really want to know apply to each school individually.

They are not formally part of the royal family or institution but Harry remains the son of a king and they had a royal wedding so they are perceived a royal.

There's no way this could have been an 'official allocation' as it's not a royal event. The fact that there were a 'lot of press' kind of confirms this. The whole point of the rota is to reduce the number of press present at any official royal event.

What actual difference has the Lord Chancellor's statement made, if they are holding events that look like royal events like this (albeit shite ones)?

It made it clear the the Sussexes represent nobody other than themselves, and any organisation which hosts them must be aware of this. Nobody can stop them visiting whatever charity wants to be associated with them.

Well, because no-one on here appreciates or supprts it. I've never seen those claims but then I don't read those kinds of papers.
If you do, and you're reading it, then complain.

Ok, so this thread is just about moaning about the hemline of Meghan’s dress or saying Harry’s jeans are scruffy?

You don’t see that this obsession is the thin end of wedge?

Every time and I mean every time, the Express or Mail post something about her, the comments are as I’ve described.

If ANY woman of colour is posted about, it’s the same.
I reported numerous times via the report mechanism and by calling the mail and express out (specifically naming them with the at sign and Newspaper name and so on) and nobody does anything.

I’m sorry if it’s unedifying and shocking but it’s happening. I’ve stopped because this slop then becomes part of my algorithm. But trust me it’s happening.

I thought everyone knew. I only go on FB to read a sports review of a local team I follow that I can’t get elsewhere but I’m all but through with it.

If you ladies want to carry on picking holes in her clothes, fine, I think she looks great but my idea of fashion is some clean jeans and a band t shirt.

Sorry if I’ve offended anyone, I thought everyone knew about the metaphorical excrement that gets hurled at her as well as the actual shit Clarkson wanted to throw at her.

swedishrhapsody · Today 18:03

I’m not going to lie.

I’m feeling very tempted to hurl shit now.

Apparently they had their own security and local police were advised of their presence.

Place was heaving with them all.

Not so many members of the public !

MonetsLilac · Today 18:04

No, @SevenYellowHammers, I've never heard of this kind of toxic stuff, and I don't really want to read it on here.
You're criticising people for talking about her hemlines, but that's absolutely nothing compared to what you're talking about - so I've no idea why you're having a go at us.
For not being so toxic? It makes no sense.

Autonomouse · Today 18:04

They said themselves when they came back that they are private citizens, didn't they?

What was said in the statement by Lord Chamberlain, on behalf of KC, was that Harry and Meghan were "akin to being private citizens with commercial and charitable interests".
Harry and Meghan appeared to have taken offense at being told they were to be known as "akin to private citizens", and that they wished to be known as "public figures".
There is a difference between the two designations, and Harry and Meghan do not want to be called private citizens.

That tells you it was not a Rota event. Because that means just one royal reporter attends, with a couple of photographers.

(Although that only applies to US mainstream media. If say ABC and NBC want to send a reporter to an event covered in the UK by the Rota, then there will be more).

Autonomouse · Today 18:08

Looks a meager crowd.

Many of the crowd were there, thrilled and excited to be able to see H & M up close and perhaps grab a selfie or a handshake.
Just as many of them were likely there out of curiosity, because they nearby, had nothing else to do, because it wasn't raining, and because it would give them something to talk about for a day or two.
That's often the way it is when something unusual happens where you live.

Nobody needs your permission to post here!

If you think some comments are violating site guidelines, report them.

Nobody here is responsible for anything other than their own comments. They're certainly not responsible for what is written in other outlets. Maybe stop repeating it if it bothers you so much? It's almost as if you want to be outraged, and are disappointed that nobody here is providing you with any material.

What's that perception that some hold got to do with the King's letter? The letter was in fact clarifying that they are not to be considered working royals by the government, the military and Lord Lieutenancies nor by anyone when it comes to any kind of representation of the King or the royal family.

If some people like to go out and see famous people or "royalty" then good for them, but Harry and Meghan's activities are nothing to do with the royal family.

IcedPurple · Today 18:13

I can't get over how terrible those green roadworks barriers look. Those are not crowd control barriers. It just shows how unprofessional this 'visit' was. A real royal visit would be planned weeks or months in advance, with coordination between the royal's office and local authorities, working out every detail so that the event runs smoothly. By contrast, this visit looks sloppy and a bit of a joke really.

swedishrhapsody · Today 18:15

It does look sloppy.

Shame really. It looks like they are queuing to see potholes being filled.

IdaGlossop · Today 18:19

OccasionalHope · Today 17:48

The schools will have permission forms for general outings that are local and involve a walk. Only big trips involving attractions, coaches, packed lunches etc have their own permission forms. I would have been less than impressed if I had had to sign a form every time DD's class visited the park across the road or went to the Salvation Army Citadel to rehearse for the nativity. They even went to the Buddhist centre to learn about Buddhism without me knowing until after they had been and we are a Christian family. I could have had a fit about indoctrination. Instead, I asked DD to talk to me about what they had done there.

A walk in the Autumn with your friends to stand in a crowd and cheer a bit is just a nice thing to do, and it gives the children some exercise. @shamedbysiri please don't contact Nottingham City Council unless you want to give some council employees a good laugh, or think Harry was offering spliffs and lines of coke to the children, or asking them to open their mouths so he could drop a little white pill 9n their tongue. Some of the schools are likely to academies so the local authority will have no oversight, other than omissions.

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · Today 18:22

Lol at the pedestrian fencing which is actually some grubby plastic roadwork barrier.

Wonder if the relevant highways license was sought from the council to put that there….I gather it was a hastily arranged visit, councils not known for their speedy reactions to requests from private citizens….

BunnyBunbunbun · Today 18:24

It should also be noted that even this trip to Nottingham was only possible because of the previous association they had in the city back when they were working royals.

They visited the Himmah Hub food poverty action centre, which Meghan had done something with in the past and wrote the foreword for their cookbook for Grenfell (not sure why Nottingham people were cooking for people in London, but anyway). Meghan had hooked up with them because a biracial California valley girl from a wealthy background and with a private school education apparently has lots in common with first-generation ethnic minority women from deprived areas of British cities.

Again, they'd have nothing in the UK today if it hadn't been for their brief time as working royals and the things that had been arranged for them then.
