William is going for the commemoration of the Aberfan disaster later in October, I think.

Ah , sorry , confused !

It’s the ongoing pattern of attempted manipulation of the public opinion that I find most objectionable. The hypocrisy, provable lies and faux martyrdom. Supporting and encouraging a mob of scary and dangerous people who attack their family and anyone who comes into their aim.

I am not convinced they’ve had any broadly positive impact on others through humanitarian or charitable endeavors, either. Other than Invictus, they seems to be either falling apart (African Parks, Sentebale) or primarily manufactured for the cameras (Uvalde, LA Fires, etc)

Where is this from? I barely ever see them in the news, but they're always trending on this place. What news sources are you consuming that give you so much fuel for this?

It's not conjecture that they did a high-profile, global interview trashing his family with a series of unsubstantiated allegations (which it has transpired were also lies). As for Meghan's allegation of suicidal thoughts and allegation that she was never given any help, that has been discussed many times on these threads and the idea that she would not have been given any help is preposterous if she asked for it.

What humanitarian and charitable work do they do? Harry only has Invictus and WellChild because he was once a working royal. Other than that, they do pretty much nothing but are trying hard to scrape together a bunch or rubbishy, low-grade appearances to give the impression they are the equivalent of working royals.

Lots of other members of the royal family who are non-working royals do charity work, but they don't shout if from the rooftops or book a series of "public engagements" to give the false impression that they are working royals or the equivalent of.

If they really cared about humanitarian and charitable work then they would have remained as working royals. All they care about is themselves as a brand, merch and all.

I’m not even sure this is a “they” thing. Since leaving the RF (as working royals) Meghan has been running the show. Now that they’re back on home soil, H is trying to re-establish himself as Prince Harry. Too much has happened for that to work out… It’s almost as if H married Meghan Markle the actress, not Meghan Markle married Prince Harry (and joined the British Royal Family). Is it now dawning on H?

Whenever is see the word “vitriol”, I have a mental image of something used to repair roads…. <misses point entirely>

I’ll warn you that using loaded language like “consuming” and “fuel” is going to result in you being dismissed as having an agenda here.

This is also just a poor debate point. “How do you know?!”

If you are not up to speed on their 7 years worth of sustained antics it’s not my job to explain.

I kind of agree with some of what you are saying @Komints i am not a fan of H&M's public behaviour and some of the things they have done as referenced above by @bluegreygreen are seriously and wrong and potentially damaging so I also agree with many posters on here.

A family spat where you accuse your relations of (for example) racism causes trouble within the family, when that family are in a position where they are supposed to represent a nation, it could have far bigger consequences. If you have proof, share it, demand apologies and change (for everyone, not just for your wife). if you don't have proof, keep your trap shut until you have proof. If you are making it up then shame on you.

The damage they could cause due to their personal vendetta against Harry's family due to his perceived mistreatment has bigger consequences than it would if they were a normal private family. Because of that they need to be more careful and more considered than the average person in their response. Its shit for them, but it's the way it is and I would say Harry has been well compensated over the years for being required to act responsibly when it comes to what he says publically.

I liked the early threads when it was analysis of PR, but now there is not much more analysis to do. Their PR is clearly rubbish.

Now it is more gossip column, some of which is truly distasteful, (speculation on the children, their upbringing and relationship between them feels very wrong to me) some hilarious, none to be taken seriously. As @Handbagsandoldcurtains its just entertainment. Quite unpleasant entertainment picking people apart for every step they take, but because H&M just keep coming back time and time again looking for coverage it feels a bit like they are free game.

So I don't know. I think their behavior is wrong and damaging a lot of the time. I find the threads entertaining and keep coming back. But I also think they are distasteful and bulling and am a little ashamed of myself for following along for 50 threads.

Sorry, think that might be more therapy than a helpful contribution to the thread!

Perhaps take a knee then. And don’t presume to paint everyone here with such a broad brush.

Spaniels4Eva · Yesterday 11:36

I think the more antics come from these two, the sorrier I feel for their children. You have to wonder how many genuine friends either have had chance to make, and moving from the US must have been very unsettling to then change schools/early years after only a few days.

swedishrhapsody · Yesterday 11:36

all the humanitarian and charitable work they've done?

I wonder how much they have been paid for all this alleged work.

Say, just for an example, the alleged payment received for his depression broadcast. Allegedly £100,000 wasn’t it?

If something was so very important to me, I would be talking about my experience and giving my advice on how to endure it for free. Especially if I didn’t need the money due to already being a millionaire.

booknerdhead · Yesterday 11:36

For some reason, I can’t imagine a suicidal thought entering Meghan’s head. The reason being I suppose she does not appear vulnerable in any way, although I may be wrong🤔

Kingsandqueenz · Yesterday 11:37

Komints · Yesterday 10:56

I got cut off earlier, the thread went too quick!

in reply to someone who said I was a 'supporter':

I'm not a H&M supporter! I'm pretty indifferent to all the royals and have no particular affection for H&M or the rest of them.

All the stuff people have countered with seems (to me) like relatively minor stuff, a bit daft, or tit-for-tat elements of the wider family conflict.

My interest in this thread isn't a 'how dare you! They're angels!' - I'm sure they're annoying at times and lovely at others. I think William and Kate probably are too.

And the person saying I accused them of racism - it's interesting that you immediately jumped on that. I wasn't accusing anyone of anything, I was wondering aloud what elements of the situation contribute most to threads like this. What things could you change for the very particular type of person who tears through the Mail/Telegraph for another bit of H&M goss and then camps out on a mumsnet thread talking about stuff they've 'heard' that backs up their opinions about a couple they've never met...

Can I just ask if you're indifferent to the Royal Family why are you on the royal threads posting?

TheTwerkingDuchessOfMonteshitshow · Yesterday 11:37

Komints · Yesterday 11:00

What's the worst thing H&M have done that justifies 50+ threads of vitriol, and has a worse and wider impact than the various humanitarian and charity stuff they've done?

I suggest you go back to thread one and work your way through to this one in order to bring yourself up to speed.

Mind you though, it is very strange for someone to come in all guns blazing and have to ask what it is the people they are obviously supporting have done.

Surely you’d have to know those things in order to have an opinion of them in the first place?

I think people must be getting desperate if they’re parachuting mouthpieces in without giving them any background info beyond ‘just mention skin colour’.

An absolutely staggering display of ignorance about mental health. Wow.

Kingsandqueenz · Yesterday 11:37

Because I see these threads pop up so frequently, and I don't understand why there is such a high level of invective, engagement and investment in two people who seem far less deserving of it than many others.

FallenNight · Yesterday 11:45

Perhaps take a knee then. And don’t presume to paint everyone here with such a broad brush.

I'm sorry, I don't understand your comment. I do not believe I did paint everyone here with a broad brush. I expressed agreement with people who argue very differing opinions and expressed conflict in my thoughts due to that. I am sorry if you felt that I was condemning anyone, it was not intentional. Except for those minority of comments directly about the children. That I do feel is wrong.

Puzzledandpissedoff · Yesterday 11:47

Out of interest, if a friend told you they'd had suicidal thoughts or attempts, even if you thought that friend was occasionally self-centred or had a rocky relationship with a family member, would you say they were lying?

I wouldn't necessarily think this because someone was a bit self centred or had fallen out with family members, no, but might well suspect it if they had a track record of damaging lies (and interesting that you left out that crucial issue)

As bluegreygreen expressed it so well, a lot of those lies aren't "minor stuff" either, and that includes allegations of racism which even the accusers had to row back from - but then I'm old enough to remember when such claims were a serious matter and not just something to chuck around because a dislike had been taken to someone

On this point you are wildly incorrect. You can never tell by looking. You can’t tell by behaviour, the words people say, your perception. Sometimes the people who take their own life are the people you’d never suspect. They hide it well. I wouldn’t normally pick out a post this way but, as a Suicide First Aider, I feel obliged to call out this as it’s a dangerous train of thought.

TheOvertGardener · Yesterday 11:50

@Komints here are two AI prompts I’ve created for you to help you come up to speed. If you’d like to discuss after you are better informed we will surely be here. If your point in posting is to shame people for the discussion then you are on a fools errand. We are a varied and diverse lot that includes many informed and intelligent women. You won’t be the first nor the last to try and make us feel foolish or unkind.

What concrete criticism has there been of Harry and Meghan in the past 6 years?

What respected news sources have covered Harry and Meghan in the past 3 months. How frequently have they been in the news?

if you do decide to return, best to come armed with gifs and bring good cheese.

It's the lies that are constantly revealed as inaccuracies, the self pity & self entitlement.
On a very basic level Harry said only last year that he could never see himself & his family living in the UK yet here they are living in the UK.

It's the fact they make their living out of selling stories about the Royal Family.. now Diana became the Royal Family has cut them off they have no new information

bluegreygreen · Yesterday 11:56

Yes, agree with @OrdinaryGingerBloke.

There are many reasons to question the Sussexes' narrative, particularly because of their documented lies, but it is not possible to tell from the outside what someone is going through.

It is also one of the reasons I have lost respect for Harry in particular. As someone with a history of knowledge around mental health, including setting up a support organisation long before he was married (Heads Together), he has been very inconsistent in his public comments since then: saying that he didn't know how to get help for his wife, was 'ashamed' to do so, etc.
Public figures need to take care that their pronouncements do not cause harm for other people.
