I am currently reading Russsll Myers Catherine & William. Enjoying it but one thing that stands out is how the Middletons have never put a foot wrong.
Carole was not from an aristocratic background nor was Michael but they raised their kids not to put a step wrong. Kate also had embarrassing family members (Uncle Gary) but she still invited him to the wedding which was the right thing to do & it nipped the media scandal in the bud & took the wind out of any sails.. Meghan invited none of her extended family or her dad & it caused massive media speculation.
Kate was born for royal life & is a natural. Very proud of our future queen. Her parents did an amazing job.

Hamlet is somewhat cute and a little witty though.

Cawvids not so much.

No. I invented the term to point out how unpleasant using oh so witty terms for children is. I have no intention of using it again. Unlike the Hamlet brigade.

It didn’t work. Mainly because both method and and premise are invalid.

Only if you are a teenager rather than a grown adult

JacknDiane · 28/09/2026 19:37

Hamlet is pathetic.

Well surely some on here - despite their protestations and faux outrage - should be going to their bed because it’s dark.

They can let the grownups chat amongst themselves instead of trying to insult people.

Me? I don’t think I want to chat to the kiddies. 👋🏽

Out of interest, how did you find cawvids?

Is that in your opinion?

Stop trying to backtrack @curlewkate you invented the nickname Cawvids for the Wales children yet you are claiming you are anti calling children names. How hypocritical can you get!

I'm thinking it was CurlewKate.

A better topic of conversation than all the other unpleasantness.

are you asking me? if so I have no clue.

the use of Ham/hamlets /markle is not used with affection, I see posts where Meghan is referred to as Markle. just childish and rude.
but then I have seen Catherine being called princess Catherine(never middleton though)

Meghan deserves all the crap sye gets tho!
No sympathy whatsoever

If Hamlets is an affectionate diminutive of HAM with no unpleasantness intended, then I don’t see what’s objectionable about CAW and Cawvids. Personally, I think involving the children at all is very objectionable.

I’m genuinely curious why Hamlet must necessarily be unpleasant? “Let” is an absolutely standard English diminutive applied to all sorts of nouns to indicate a smaller/younger version of an object without any negative judgment. Hence owlet, piglet, droplet, booklet. I genuinely can’t think of an example when it is applied in a pejorative way.

As applied here, to H and M (being their parents’ initials, and when Meghan has made it clear from her engagement interview that she calls Harry “H”) I think it sounds quite affectionate? Plus it has the advantages of being a play on words, given Hamlet is a very well-known Prince’s name. Is it any worse than say “Brangelina or “Kimye”? And if so, why?

simpsonthecat · 29/09/2026 09:48

It's so refreshing to think that those who use the nicknames HAM and Hamlets are being affectionate!

LaMarschallin · 29/09/2026 11:37

I thought I'd seen the word "Waleslings" used for the children of the the P&POW on here.
It sounded quite nice to me.

Absolutely, babies and little things are cute and people like them.

I think in this manufactured war it’s sad that some would like to use any of the children to try and score points. “Oh, look, they are being cruel about the children.” when there is nothing at all to indicate that in the nickname “Hamlet.”

And “Oh, let’s be shitty about the Wales children and pretend it’s just to prove how terrible they’ve all been to Harry and Meghan’s little ones.”

Perhaps, but calling her by the legal name she was known by prior to marriage isn’t being crappy. She willingly used that name as an actress and a public figure.

Catherine, on the other hand was only known publicly due to her relationship with William. We’d never have her the name Middleton at all but for that. She chose him, and the public life came along with it.

Refreshing it is.

Because to find offence in everything I think would be bloody tiresome.

It is lovely to see you feel the same way.

TheOvertGardener · 29/09/2026 15:14

It’s their two initials joined like salt and pepper. I’m not sure how much more benign you can get?

“Hello, Newman”

U53rName · 29/09/2026 15:44

I admire the faux affection of giving a ‘cutsey’ name to the children of a couple that you hate to the very core.

And the faux nicety of calling a married woman by her maiden name, when she changed it upon marriage.

ThrwhelsOntHEbuzgoroundandrund · 29/09/2026 16:02

Who hates who?

Faux nicety of calling a woman by her maiden name? My big humps is it just MM.

Happens throughout time.

CPB, KM, WS for starters. So many more women are referred to by their maiden name. It doesn’t mean they are hated.

Who could hate Dolly Parton for instance? Only someone without the sense they were born with.

If someone tells me that I hate someone because I refer to someone by their given name? They are wrong. So wrong.

I respect anyone’s right to wave the hate banner at me. It doesn’t mean they are right and that I hate someone.

But note that I will likely be waving a deluded twat banner back at anyone who thinks that of me and I may well be right.

U53rName · 29/09/2026 16:07

Dolly didn’t choose to change her name when she got married. Meghan did. Refusing to call someone by their chosen name is rude AF.

Jimsaidpeoplearestrange · 29/09/2026 16:10

@ThrwhelsOntHEbuzgoroundandrund when I mentioned her being called Markle by some posters , I meant just that. not Meghan Markle......just markle.

ThrwhelsOntHEbuzgoroundandrund · 29/09/2026 16:17

But to some she will always be Meghan Markle - even her friend did it on her programme. Her friend. Not a random on the internet.

You may think it is rude and that is your prerogative.

It doesn’t mean anyone hates her though.
