Continuing the discussion, still interested, still not bored!

I have trouble believing it too.

And even if it was true, why is Spencer, who at the time professed to be so concerned about his nephews William and Harry, throwing this out there with no apparent concern for the damage it might do? Did he run it past them first?

It looks as if he's just going for the shock factor.

The book is being discussed on this thread in case people are interested

Earl Spencer's stolen book

Re the King's response, my comment there was that he and William have probably talked for some time about whether and in what way to respond. This is not worded as a knee-jerk reaction.

I also suspect it's worded in such a way that it will be the only reaction.

I think the RF are learning that the age old tradition of never explain is becoming redundant in these days of rampant social media use and in the face of nutters.

But would Eugenie or Sarah be super friendly if they suspected Meghan and Andrew had had a rendezvous ? 🤷‍♀️

That is not what I said or meant.
There is a murky connection and I suspect much murkier than just a previous bunk up with AMW.

Hello everyone, I just thought I'd pop in at this time to say I haven't posted anything on this thread, but I have enjoyed reading the posts.
I find them all so interesting, so full of news that I've never read, and so well put.
Although I have nothing of substance or interest to add, I have agreed with many of the posts.
Thank you @jeffgoldblum for again so kindly welcoming new posters to your thread.

When books are serialised the papers go for what they think is the most newsworthy revelation first - so for Spare, that was meant to be William pushing Harry onto the dog bowl. The accidental access to the Spanish version somewhat took the sting out of that though!

So this is probably the high-watermark of the criticism of Charles I imagine? Who knows if it’s true? Stand up arguments never bring out the best in people, that is for sure. Certainly at the time of Diana’s funeral feelings were running very high - Charles Spencer’s speech at her funeral made that clear. No-one in this whole saga - Charles, Diana, Charles Spencer - always behave or have behaved perfectly in their lives.

Charles Spencer is as histrionic and vengeful as his sadly departed sister.
There is a streak of nastiness in the highly fractured Spencer family plus Charles and Diana got the worst of things when their mother left and Acid Raine moved in so are/ were damaged people.

Agree with all this.

As we're discussing the blinds again, one reason I dislike them, apart from the fact that they alter the basis of conversation (which here is usually factual reporting), is that they usually contain unpleasant and unprovable allegations against one or other of the Sussexes, mostly Meghan.

This opens the thread up to easy accusations from Sussex supporters that we are all horrible, racist gossipmongers, when we normally have quite a civilised conversation with genuine references for our discussion.

If we must have the blinds, I would prefer them to be put as links, rather than cut and pasted to the thread.
I'm sorry if that comes across as thread policing.

I would prefer that too.

I think you are right @Serenster.

Certainly at the time, although I was very anti royal and thought the UK had lost it's collective mind over Dianas death, the RF totally misjudged the situation and there was lots of talk of Caroline of Brunswick and constitutional upheaval.

It's possible KC did say things to Spencer he might now regret although I always thought Spencer was a self-serving creep so I expect we shall never know the truth of it, except it would have been better unwritten about.

shanghainights · 16/09/2026 20:45

It's an interesting one isn't it ? For so long there have been ridiculous assertions made about Catherine especially. Just because information is in a blind it doesn't mean that it is any less true or false than assertions made on here eg complicated, Brazilian butt lift, dead, beaten, divorced.

RemainInAbeyance · 16/09/2026 20:46

Completely off topic but the Christmas Fridges also used to be a place of welcome - which is funny as now anyone on them are hounded off.

<Smacks self for derailing>

Starryfifty · 16/09/2026 20:46

I feel sorry for KC and PW. They also have the HAM milking of Diana's death next summer. That will be pure bilge

But clicking links is often risky - I don't think it is best to promote random links.

What fresh hell is this? Does James Blunt know?

H&M dont bother to take their own kids to and from school and no doubt have a nanny or two to bring up their dc so i cant imagine for one second it was M personal number.

Or anyone leaked it. Its just nonsense. Id be really insulted if i was another parent on that whats app group and accused of leaking her number. Who too? It seems M already has the press on personal speed dial no need to leak anything!

Gonners · 16/09/2026 20:55

I do find myself wondering if Charles Spencer has even read the book, let alone written it. That said, a few years after "The Royal Wedding" I was walking towards a corner somewhere in the West End when a man barrelled round it at speed and knocked me flying. To his great credit he reacted quickly, caught me on the way down, set me on my feet, apologised profusely and asked me if I'd like to go somewhere and sit down. I said no, I was fine, so he apologised some more and I went on my way while he hurtled off on his.

I assume he was always nice to women he wasn't married to. That's class, eh?

AlwaysRightISwear · 16/09/2026 20:56

I think the phone argument is likely to be broadly true. The actual wording I am less sure of.

I was wondering today whether Diana got on with Shand Kydd . A lot has been said about Raine, but nothing about her relationship with her step father.
Agree there is a streak of nastiness in the Spencers.

What happened with the Spanish version of Spare?
I’ve forgotten. Or it might have totally passed me by at the time.

I’m inclined to agree @Puzzledandpissedoff

Also, they got this out pretty fast unless the DM had sent them advance notice. Beginning to wonder where those stolen four copies of the book ended up.
Dearie me. Dark arts indeed.

Frances and Shand Kydd lived on the Scottish Island of Sell. I don't think there was much contact.
