The royal family

It might be the rules but my opinion (that matters not one jot in the grand scheme of things) is that he should get security paid for. He has a much higher profile than many other royals because of his mum. But I also think Edward and Sophie etc should have security.

What has Diana got to do with Harry’s security? She famously refused Met security

piscofrisco · 08/09/2026 21:50

I don’t see what the would have to take issue about in the letter really. Didn’t it just re confirm their position as non working royals which is what they wanted all along?
if they dont want press attention then why have they made a big deal out of this? I dont care about them either way but I’ve been off sick today so I’ve seen it on the news several times

I think I said this on another thread . According to a source , H and M do not like being referred to as private citizens. They see themselves as public figures.

On one RF thread, someone who has inside knowledge of The Met ( who provide this security, which requires the person providing the security to be prepared to deliver, but also to take a bullet) explained that there is currently a small pool of individuals The Met can call on.

In other words, this is a scarce resource, and people rightly have to really have serious justification for calling on it.

ETA: HAM playing the Diana card to have taxpayers provide gun protection for the school run? Fuck right off! QE2 had a much higher profile than Diana for a much, much longer period, and three of her kids did the school run without needing what HAM want.

Backedoffhackedoff · 08/09/2026 22:03

Rhaidimiddim · 08/09/2026 21:39

Err, you seem to be assuming a lot about the level of security HAM had when they were working royals.

And to have missed All The Posts on the RF forum that explain that Anne and Edward get security only when on official duties.

Only the Monarch and Heir ( and their families) get the full 24/7365.

Also, HAM were paying for their own security in Cali.

As @IcedPurple said on one of these threads, we need a post-note stickie at the top of the thread explaining this point.

Also why is there this idea that their security have to carry guns?!? 🤯 who do they think they are, that in the uk (with some of the strictest gun laws in the world) their staff should be able to er- shoot (kill?) security threats?!

The whole point is the gun laws are so strict you don’t need a gun for defence in the uk. None of us do. Why would they be any different?

Because the Wales family have armed protection.

And they're too dim to understand that the two terms are not mutually exclusive.

You can be a public figure and a private citizen at the same time. Cristiano Ronaldo is maybe the most famous person in the world, but as he holds no official role he is also a private citizen. Whereas an MP that nobody outside his constituency has ever heard of is not a private citizen as he holds an official office.

But I guess the distinction is too subtle for the Sussex clowns.

Lanternss · 08/09/2026 22:08

It just looks like Charles has decided to stick the knife in to make sure they don’t get the security they are after.

We all know they aren’t working Royals. They presumably know that too as do the charities who still want them to visit.

Rather petty I’d say. Anyway who really cares?!

Greenwoodmac · 08/09/2026 22:11

I think this is a game

The King knew they were coming back long before the announcement

And I believe this latest statement was done to clarify the public but also to generate press

Remember they have very busy media functions - and they play it very well indeed

Yeah!

So, you're parking your car to drop sprog off at NoNameSchool and a guy with a gun tells you to back off and wait over there while MM drops her kid off safely. You tell him to do one and drive past him. What happens next?

Like Wimbledon, but with guns.

No, RAVEC allocate security based on risk assessment, not status.

Nothing "petty" about it. The security they want would cost the UK taxpayer a lot of money, and drain a very scarce resource. (And possibly making recruitment for that branch of The Met more difficult.)

Narcs always have to have the last word, can't ignore a slight.
I love that they thought their "clarifications" to the letter would have been meet and welcomed - right up there with continuing to collaborate with the Queen.

They really can’t help themselves. Not sure if it’s H or M driving it but they come across as staggeringly obtuse. Six years and learned nothing - still shouting themselves in the foot and raging with confusion.

The ‘Fred’ resignation analogy is spot on.

That was another story entirely and I'm not going to go there.

Not entirely - Wace's wife (or partner?) is on the first page of Epstein's book.

I don’t understand why KC/BP feels the need to keep making announcements about H&M: them coming back to the UK and now not being working royals. Why can’t he just enjoy their private time together and leave the press out of it?

Surprised. They're the only ones.

Surprised that The King clarified their position as ordinary plebs & reminded them not to get ideas above their station!

They must be absolutely mortified. They were publicly humiliated by KC & The Palace. Love it! Hams plans are going stale before they even began!

They don't "keep" making announcements about them. They've made precisely four in the last six years.

I'm sure KC3 would like nothing more than to spend quiet, quality time with Harry and his family. Unfortunately, H&M have breached the terms of the agreement reached at Sandringham in 2020 and they've been quite brazen about it. This prompted the Statement issued yesterday as a reminder to everyone that they are not working royals, they should not be using HRH titles, security is a matter for the local police force and they should be given no access to public funds. I think KC3 has probably had enough of their entitled nonsense and is taking a hard line, and not before time in my opinion.

If HaM had a shred of sense, they would have returned to the UK, kept to the terms of the agreement, kept themselves out of the media and quietly tried to rebuild the bridges they burned with the RF and the general public. It wouldn't have been easy and it would have taken time, but it was possible. Instead, here they are again shooting themselves in the foot and creating unnecessary drama.

ExOptimist · 08/09/2026 23:23

SirChenjins · 08/09/2026 20:14

I think they came back to work on getting back into the Royal sphere gradually by stealth in order to give their children a royal future. They would blur the lines by reconnecting with their various charities, then rekindling relationships with the outer royals and working inwards, then going to family events, and slowly building into roles that are royal by association. This from KC has thrown a big old spanner in the works.

Yes this.
I read that some of their friends have let it be known that H&M's plan was to gradually do the above and thence achieve their desired half in half out "by the back door".

KC's letter has made it crystal clear that won't be happening.

flippantlydone · 08/09/2026 23:30

Four too many. I would prefer my royal leeches maintain a dignified silence, or at least end homelessness already. KC is showing himself to be petty and spoilt. Again. His mother should have taught him better.

Nope you are wrong! He had to publicly remind Ham not to get ideas above their station. Ham like to publicly announce statements themselves .. what's good for the goose is good for the gander. It's hilarious seeing them get a taste of their own medicine & I hope KC & the palace keep it up!
Absolutely humiliating for Ham 😂

Isn’t that something else Harry has lied about? I’m sure he’s made out over the last few years that royal protection was withdrawn from Diana, rather than admitting that she rejected it and it probably cost her her life. The actual truth doesn’t fit with their victimhood.

Thry just can’t help themselves. They have to try to be in control of what’s said about them. Harry wants nothing short of media censorship.

BusyExpert · 09/09/2026 00:02

The dislike and disgust people feel for Markle is entirely deserved and entirely of her own doing
