The royal family
Superhansrantowindsor · 08/09/2026 17:45

It seems to me that they like releasing stuff when the Cambridge family are in the news.

I still think that security should be paid for by the state. He can’t help being the kings son.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/09/2026 17:52

I’ve read every thread on this and have literally wracked my brains and still can’t understand why they are here ??

Why?

They had loads of money and a pretty fucking relaxed cosseted life where the media left them alone - genuinely looks like they got no hassle at all

I read somewhere that Harry is going to be making a film/documentary about his mother. I wonder if they're in the UK purely for that, and will go back to Montecito once that is done? Maybe the film studios photo was because that's where he's going to be working on this film?

Maybe also why Sarah Ferguson has reportedly also just returned to the UK? Something to stick her mitts into for the right £££.

We really need a stickie at the top of each discussion for this!

Being the King's son is not a reason for taxpayer funded security. Edward, Andrew and Anne were also children of a reigning monarch and did not get full time security. Harry will only be granted security on the base of RAVEC's threat assessments, which might indicate no security is needed at all.

These facts have been pointed out many, many times on these discussions.

@LaurieFairyCake My best guess is that things haven't worked out in the US in the way PH and M thought they would. They said that they wanted privacy and they found it here eventually, because over the last couple of years,
(I'm in the US), their activities have been increasingly unreported. Their arrival, the Oprah interview and the publication of "Spare" were, of course, but it faded rapidly.

The British media still stir it up, of course, and perhaps in Europe too, so they've traded a quiet life for a return to that. Guess they don't dislike attention so much after all!

CoffeeCantata · 08/09/2026 18:33

Mulledjuice · 08/09/2026 13:43

indeed.

it wouldnt have been hard to say something like "they are no longer working members of the Royal Family but they remain members of the family" or similar.

I think KC has had enough, frankly, and is not in a soppy or conciliatory mood.

But in any case this is a formal declaration and not the place for personal messages.

MissMoneyFairy · 08/09/2026 18:41

I doubt very much that any sensible film company or studio would be happy to make a purely one sided documentary about Diana, it just wouldn't be worth the fallout and would be a very bad idea.

Princessfluffy · 08/09/2026 18:44

I really hope Harry is not stooping to exploiting and monetising the memory of his mother as the purpose of his temporary move to the UK

MissMoneyFairy · 08/09/2026 18:55

Maybe Ophray will do the voice overs

Wedgewood · 08/09/2026 19:02

They never adhered to the Sandringham agreement and nobody ever called them out for breaching it. They're probably surprised because they thought it had fallen by the wayside. They would have been better off playing it cool and saying nothing or a simple thank you to give the impression they were fine with it. They always have to clap back though and play victim. They can't stand not to be in control, which is why they are complaining about not being able to comment on something that requires none of their input.

GeneralChicken · 08/09/2026 19:06

Stirring up trouble for the next book.

Backedoffhackedoff · 08/09/2026 19:08

Harry’s main complaint was the constant briefing of the press by the palace on them. Why would he be surprised it happened again?!

Mylovelygreendress · 08/09/2026 19:10

It will be interesting to see if they actually behave or if they will continue to push forward their own agenda and pretend to be working royals.
As for why they came back ? Financial reasons .

@Backedoffhackedoff Exactly. They know how the men in grey suits operate, they didn't like it before...but they've come back to it, as @LaurieFairyCake pointed out!

Are they going to move somewhere else now?

Main complaint but now we know it was really him and he was simply objecting to throw people off his trail.

I think it’s plausible that Harry wanted to come back long ago and the tax implications finally made Meghan give in and agree.

How is the UK better for them financially, is that to do with the tax thing? They still have to earn a living and fund their lifestyle here (unless they seriously thought they would be publicly funded as working royals).

Backedoffhackedoff · 08/09/2026 19:17

I don’t think the uk is better financially tbh. I think their tax is going to be really complex.

AcquadiP · 08/09/2026 19:18

ElsieJay · 08/09/2026 12:16

Are they just … really, really dim ?

Rhetorical question.

😂 They're the equivalent of someone who resigns from a company to go self-employed and then complains bitterly that on their final day that the company car was taken off them and, not only that, they haven't received a pay cheque from the company since. Bastards!

Imdunfer · 08/09/2026 19:33

AuntieBiotics · 08/09/2026 09:49

Agree they can't help themselves. A dignified silence was the appropriate response. Or a statement saying that they welcome the king's clarification and please can the media just leave them alone to settle in with their kids.

Shit-stirring is never the right response. But George is in the headlines today as it's his first day at Eton and this overshadows the Sussexes somewhat.

It's that boy beautiful or is he beautiful?

HalzTangz · 08/09/2026 19:35

They've come back to the UK because they didn't turn out as popular as they thought they would be outside the UK.
They aren't working royals so the tax payer shouldn't be paying a penny towards their security. They aren't skint, they can pay for their own security

newberry · 08/09/2026 19:40

AuntieBiotics · 08/09/2026 10:08

I think they had hoped that with an ageing, unwell King, William/Kate and his ageing siblings doing the bulk of the work, they'd be welcomed back with open arms and start to be treated as working royals again, using the HRH titles and back into the full shebang. At least until William becomes King. But Charles has made it clear this is not on the table.

It's a weird move for sure. There is a lot of speculation that they will separate within the year, HArry remaining here with the children and Meghan back in California doing... something. Making jam and spilling her guts to Oprah, probably.

I doubt Meghan would leave her kids??

Though I wouldn't be remotely surprised if she and Harry split up.

I assume they thought KC would support them financially and it would be easier to speak to him if they are both in the same country and time zone

If they don’t split up then I reckon they’ll move again within a year. Where? Who knows, possibly Canada or South Africa? Didn’t Charles Spencer move to SA?wildly guessing!

Really ?
I can see her skipping off for lengthy periods leaving g them with H .
M does not strike me as particularly maternal - far too self absorbed .
